I remember previous backpacking trips, but most were only for a few days. These short trips were never enough and I always wished I could stay longer in this paradise as the trail seems to finish almost immediately after starting. This past summer, I learned about the Pacific Crest Trail, and I realized that there was a way to more fully connect with nature. The five month, 2,700 mile backpacking trail runs from the arid Mexican border in California to the mountainous Canadian border in Washington. Instantly, I knew that I would someday undertake this challenge. The trail tests both physical and emotional strength so much that only a fraction of aspiring long-distance hikers finish. I was not deterred from my goal, and the thought of the immersive challenge excited me. Taking this trip solo would finally allow me to experience self-reliance, something only realized when alone in the wild for days on
When the Trans-Canada Trail was first developed, some first-time users were unprepared for it's challenges. Many areas are quite remote, so you should take
Never wear boots, flip-flops, shorts, or jeans on this trip because there will be no point of going. And if this attire is worn venturing out on this trip will not be a very intriguing one. Never hiking will make this quest extremely tough for anyone. With the temperature being about ninety degrees anyone would get parched, famished, and exhausted. They would also smell terrible and complain the entire hike about the aches and pains. Maybe if a person was in shape and had the proper attire, hiking the trail may be fun. But, someone who isn’t any of that would have a terrible experience. If one is not fit never do this unless a person would want to feel like they were dying or challenge their self. Even if a person is young they would still feel the aches and pains of the strenuous
From Mexico to Canada, a bike ride of about 1829 miles, ninety six year old Bill Pierce has started his journey through the middle of the United States. Bill Pierce has been contemplating the idea of his travels for about ten years but didn’t really get around to it, but he said, “About a year ago I retired, and I sat down and said to myself either i’m going to do this or i’m not going to do it, times going to run out eventually.” After finally making up his mind he decided he wanted to take on the challenge and hasn’t looked back since.
On Tuesday, March 29, 2016 I attended a geography film event at Sykes called “Remembering Hells Canyon.” The creator of this film, Patricia Keith, attended this event. Patricia Keith teaches video production at a college level. Her production company, Buffalo Eddy Productions has created many films. They’re mostly known for making in-hand adventures films in places like South America, Southeast Asia, China, Canada and much more. Patricia explained how difficult it was to film these adventure films. Most of these films are constructed in a remote location. These remote locations are very hard to access by foot. Buffalo eddy used transportation like busses, trains, bush planes, carts, wagons, ferries, canoes, and land cursers to access the remote
Our backing group had for some time hiked all over the Sierra’s, and because our leader Mario Bonura made it easy on us, the trips were always circular. That is we ended up where we started from. So we talked about a backpacking trip which combined other trips but began and ended up elsewhere. With this in mind we devised this trip which began in Toulumne Meadows
It was perhaps eight years ago that I initiated my first trek on a small hill, back then the whole concept of trekking bewildered me, living afar from the clutches of your over protective parents and surviving on your own in mountains was a dream come true for an eleven year old so I instantly signed up for my school’s annual trek. Little did I know that it was simply much more than that.
The purpose of this paper will be to educate all outdoors enthusiasts that would seek every advantage in proper preparation for exploration of the wilderness around them by doing three things. First, this presentation will give a detailed list of how to best prepare for each environment a person might choose to explore, with a specific list of what medical supplies would typically be needed to ensure a safe trip. Second, it will present the common medical situations that can and have arisen in the most regularly explored environments. Thirdly, it will present a medical plan of action based on well-researched information that will show gold standards of treatment, a step-by-step treatment strategy, and evacuation strategy after stabilization of the patient.
For Mr. West’s year 11 outdoor education class’s 4 day expedition in Warren Gorge and the Argadells. As A class the route, equipment, food and the risk management plan were organised prior to the camp.
Recently there has been an emergence of an activity in America that numerous people have not noticed, what might this activity be, it is hiking. Hiking is an activity that has recently become popular with people of all ages; since the year 1960 the number of hikers in Colorado alone has almost quadrupled. Why is this? Countless people have discovered what an excellent activity hiking is, and have found it extremely enjoyable. Although only fifteen percent of Americans hike, hiking is an activity with several hidden benefits that one might not notice straightaway, these benefits make a combination of hiking and rock climbing the best activity in the world.

While being saddled with a guide and limitations that prohibit independent travel is disconcerting to many, the advent of a new twist on an old tradition offers relief to those is search of a trail blazing adventure.
Adventure tourism has grown rapidly in the recent years and has become increasingly commercialised. It can be defined multiple ways including when a participant is involved in an outdoor activity and confronts nature in order to experience risk (Walle, 1997), or where the principle attraction is an outdoor activity using specialised equipment (Swarbrooke et al.)
