Around the Corner Restaurant is an Edmond staple that has been around since 1951. It has gone by several different names, had many different owners, and is in its third location. The restaurant’s focus is breakfast and lunch in a family atmosphere. Like any business, communication is an imperative part of daily functioning. Around the Corner has many strengths and weaknesses in communication.
According to Schambers, (2017), communication may be the most essential element in the work place. Communication is in most if not all aspects of a working environment. Effective communication is defined as “when the senders and receivers reach an understanding in response to intentional verbal or nonverbal messages” (Kramer & Bisel, 2017, p. 6). In a restaurant, the immediate communication is between customers and servers, and between servers and kitchen staff. Since the restaurant installed a POS system several years ago, the communication to the kitchen works very well. Training the new servers correctly and servers learning the menu are vital to ensuring that they can decode what the customers are trying to order. Verbal communication and understanding is the foundation of being a server. New servers are trained by the strong and established servers on staff to ensure customers are well taken care of.
Another part of communication in the restaurant that is important is the managements communication towards all the staff members.

In an effort to have competitive advantage over other chain restaurants, Olive Garden emphasizes comprehensive employee trainings in order to provide their customers the best service possible. But even though employees have gone through training, there are some issues that would need to be fixed in order to have 100% customer satisfaction. The issues we have identified for Olive Garden Restaurants are the hostess system, reservations, running of the food, and inputting the order. The hostess system will be implemented by working with the IT

Without organizational communication, it would be extremely difficult to know what an organization stands for, why it exists, who its customers are, how work is completed, who has authority over others and so on. “Organizational communication serves as the glue that holds everything together while, at the same time, acting as a magnifying glass by making this clearer” (Hartzell, Sherri;, 2003-2015) What this means to me is that, be clear, and have everyone on the same
Communication serves as a critical first impression when talking to professional figures. Growing up a basketball player, I have come across many adults who obtain a higher authority in athletics. My goal has always been to play college basketball and play professionally. Talking with these high level figures is very important to my success of becoming both. A time I communicated strongly was the first time I talked to my college recruiter. The effectiveness of my words helped to get my point across so that my recruiter could understand me in the manner as I intended. The conversation we had was very professional and the usage of my vocabulary and body language enhanced throughout the conversation. He was able to understand my intentions behind what I delivered to him so that we could have an ongoing conversation. Communicating with my recruiter showed him that I was capable to talk to him and others over him without having a mediocre conversation.

After having the opportunity to assist in writing the job qualifications for positions within my service center, we administered a written test, typing and reading test. Our goal was to get as many qualified applicants who demonstrated the ability to effectively communicate and
It is important to agree and commit to a strategy for communicating as a project team. Consider options. Having a communication strategy that people haven’t had an opportunity to agree on, or who aren’t aware of, will mean that communication won’t be effective.
