What is Cloud Computing? Cloud computing is one of those buzzword that can be misleading to people unfamiliar with cloud services. With regular computing, hardware and software is part of the desktop or it is located inside an organization 's network. Cloud computing is means the hardware, storage, and software is provided as a service by another company and accessed over the Internet. The first known reference to what is today called cloud computing was in a Compaq internal document in 1996, but the term did not enter true popularity until Amazon.com introduced the Elastic Compute Cloud. There are different types and delivery models of cloud computing and at the core of Cloud Computing is that a service provider hosts the application which means they will manage software updates, handle costs of servers or development depending on how much the client pays. Technical specifications or functional/features specifications. Cloud computing enables businesses to deploy or subscribe to services as it needs them. A cloud features self-service, broad network access, centralized shared resources, and measurement of service usage. There are three widely accepted types of cloud service models. They are Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Each serves a different purpose and business may choose to use just one, two, or even all three of the cloud types simultaneously as the needed. Software as a Service
