Don't we all have something in common? Well that's just how comedians have an effect to communicate a universal truth with their audience. Whether if its confusion, sickness, frustration we all have something that we can relate to and that is how comedians use this effect because we can relate to that feeling or subject. That's how a comedian can communicate a universal truth to us by using humor.

I honestly can't remember a joke that involved a setup and punchline, it was just someone set in a situation so ridiculous that maybe it makes you laugh. I occasionally chuckled, but I never laughed my ass or just laugh a little bit. But some of the "jokes" constantly get repeated or just go on for way too long and that can get on people's nerves and it got dangerously close to getting on mine.

The power of comedy is that it takes contemporary issues and stretches them to the extreme and then puts the exaggerated picture of who we are as a society back in our faces. Back a while ago, comedian great Mike Myers played Pitka in the movie flop "The Love Guru". During a number of scenes, Pitka would make comments, realize that they were catchy, and then quickly tack on and little "TM" to his statement. The idea was that he was trademarking everything clever that he said. Ridiculous? That's why it's comedy.

When I first think about why I have a passion for comedy, I think of it as being powerful and special. It is one of those things that can unite people. Laughter doesn’t discriminate, it doesn’t matter your ethnicity, religion, political opinion, etc., this is what I believe makes it so captivating. With humor you can as least for a little while forget about everything going on around you, regardless of the simplicity or complexity of the situation. It is a way for us to keep our sanity and gives us the opportunity to come together and put serious issues aside or be able to look at those issues in a less hostile manner. The purpose of humor is to create happiness and relief. We use humor to talk about uncomfortable situations or topics, some of us use it for self deprecation. While satire reveals social flaws, things that need to be addressed, and serious problems within our society, humor just relieves pain or sadness in the form of laughter. Because there are so many different kinds of humor there are so many different ways it can be included in everyday things. Many different people, movies, t.v. shows, books, and other writings use humor.

During the film characters make jokes about each other. They don´t have purpose to insult or offend; they just accept things how they are. It´s a question of the trust between friends and colleagues. Language they speak is funny as well that is kind of Australian slang that makes jokes more expressive and authentic. Almost all scenes in bar are accompanied with sarcastic jokes between friends and there is a logic explanation of this attitude.

Everyone has humor inside of them and is a reason why there is always something to laugh at. When it comes down to what people do or the way they behave. It was very funny when Dr. Bettes ordered some tests for Spencer and expected back the results the same day. Spencer has congestion in his lungs which causes him to barely breathe. Usually, it takes a few days to get results back from a lab, but it was very funny how the doctor wanted results back on the same day because it takes time for the results to process. Its humor is on par with Fonzie Bear telling a joke. He’s only funny when he’s not trying to be.

In my perspective this story is more serious than funny. One reason why is because the book is based on making a very vital decision that can change the protagonists future. Secondly, the protagonist has some serious family issues that affects his life. Lastly, the characters in the story overlook events in a primary way.

Despite this there are some interesting anecdotal evidence that humor was used as a means to express wit and learning. Consider French writer Voltaire or even in relatively modem times Oscar Wilde and his extremely witty characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray. These writers used wit and humor to influence people, to stir emotions in their readers and their conversing abilities were fresh and exciting. Humor typically has an element of shock and awe and readers or listeners are shaken beyond their limits of self-control to burst into laughter. Uncontrollable laughter as related to humor was against the strict moral laws of Plato. Even Aristotle seemed to believe in some restrictions on humorous conversation.
