WHO KILLED JON BENET RAMSEY? The brutal murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey on Christmas night in 1996 shocked America to its core. Just as the Lindbergh baby kidnapping and murder seven decades earlier had seared the nation's consciousness, this murder of a beautiful and talented child in a wealthy Boulder, Colorado home --renewed every parent's worst nightmare. It has been nearly three years since this violent crime occurred and no one has been brought to justice. At 6:48 p.m., Dec. 23, 1996, a 911 call was placed from the Ramsey home to the Boulder Police Department. The call was terminated before a police dispatcher could speak to the caller. Six minutes later the police called the Ramsey home, but got a voice-mail …show more content…
The police began to suspect that someone in the house was the author of the ransom note. That suspicion was quickly bolstered when police discovered a note pad in the Ramsey house that not only was the source of the ransom note, but contained a "practice note" similar to the one given police by Patsy Ramsey. JonBenet's murder particularly as the days went by and no arrests were forthcoming -- quickly became a national obsession, featured day after day on network news, television tabloid programs, talk radio, newspapers and magazines. Her image flitted across television screens innumerable times, often showing her in a glittering cowgirl outfit, singing "I want to be a cowboy sweetheart," or dancing across the stage in a Las Vegas showgirl outfit, complete with heavy makeup. Her unusual first name became so well known that like Cher and Madonna she no longer had need of a last name. The public's shock at the murder soon began to share equal time with its growing dismay at the Boulder police's investigation, a dismay fed by a steady stream of leaks from the Boulder County prosecutor's office about the inept police investigation being conducted. For one thing it became known that the police had badly botched the initial investigation by failing to seal off the crime scene. For another it appeared the police were treating the primary suspects
On June 12th, 1994, Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman’s bodies were found Nicole’s condominium; the victims had been stabbed to death. Crimes happen all the time. But when it happens to young children who have no way of defending themselves, and hasn’t lived their life to the fullest, it becomes a whole other thing. Kids are innocent, and nobody ever wants to see them hurt. That is why it was such a big shock, when the crime of the century was a kidnapping and murder of an infant.
There were many mistakes that was done in the Jonbenet case. They did a poor job into protecting the crime scene. The first responder even asked john and the neighbor to look all over the house for anything unusual. That is something you are not supposed to do, them looking around the house led to the body of Jonbenet and destroyed evidence. Former Boulder police chief, Mark Beckner, said that first off the police officers should have shut down the crime scene immediately and taken statements from JonBenet's parents. Since the crime occurred on Christmas Day, Beckner said that there were less people available to get to the scene. It took a long time after the murder, before police managed to conduct interviews with the Ramsey's, who had by
On December 26, 1996 Patsy Ramsey made a phone call to 911 and frantically told dispatch that she found a ransom note on the main staircase of her home and that her daughter was taken. Experts from the CBS special reviewing the ransom note determined whoever wrote it was desparately trying to “sell” it too much and used too many words instead of getting right to the point as most ransom notes do. Also, the amount of money that was asked for was the same amount of money that Mr. Ramsey got for his bonus that year. Linguistic experts also matched most of the handwriting to Patsy and said that parts of the note used maternal language, also pointing to Patsy. While reviewing the ransom note, CBS showed experts also looking at the autopsy report.
In the year 2010, 26-year-old Kenzie Houk was found murdered in her bed. Kenzie was shot in her head. Kenzie was also eight months pregnant when she was murdered (nydailynews.com). The person who found the body was her 4-year-old daughter. When the police officers arrived at the scene, they searched to see if anybody broke into the house. The police officers were unable to find any force entry. The police officers even thought it was a possibility that Kenzie ex-boyfriend could of committed the murder, but they were unable to connect him to the murder. Eventually, the police officers found out that the murderer was none other then the 11-year-old Jordan Anthony Brown.

The Boulder Police Department’s investigation was not conclusive and left more questions than answers. Also, upon advice from their attorney, the Ramsey’s refused to be interviewed initially. This further let the barriers that hindered a good outcome. All of these unanswered questions led to a media frenzy and speculation that fueled public speculation.
Investigators knew what they had to do, and knew they had the right suspect in questioned. They presumed with asking Bruno Hauptmann to write; where there would be a comparison of in handwriting from the ransom note to now, and the comparison was “unbelievable”. The similarities of strokes it takes to make that word or letter was amazing, gave investigator the evidence they needed to hold against him. Another component is the courts where substantial evidence will be used to hold Bruno Hauptmann with the crime. A preliminary hearing would proceed in which will show the court and jury the evidence that is brought before him.

The relationship between law enforcement and prosecutors, which goes hand-in-hand, can’t be overlooked. Evidence of a crime that detectives and law enforcement discover is as equally important as a good trial on part of the prosecution. If detectives aren’t able to find good solid evidence – that case usually isn’t bothered in being pursued. Several years ago, in the late 80’s, there was a murder case in Southeastern Oklahoma which now serves as a tragic example to the need for honest, constitutional work in the criminal justice system. Disreputable investigative procedures, fraudulent sources, and bad evidence were the foundation of this case that shattered innocent lives.
