You guys are all right, The first time I start using this resource it was painful to me since I was not used to it. But, finding it necessary for my search, I did convince myself of its importance in my nursing career. I truly believe that the more you use it, the more it becomes easy and interesting to
For centuries the development of nursing knowledge has been influenced by numerous theorists and their respective theories. These theories have influenced, and continue to influence, nursing education, practice and research. (Johnson & Webber, 2005)
A survey was performed to identify nurses’ competence with computer databases. Many of the practicing nurses studied claimed they did not feel comfortable navigating a database to locate research information. Many were either not aware of helpful tools such as CIANHL and PubMed or did not utilize these tools due to their inability to access or navigate them. Patient charting and detailed drug information is all computerized, therefore, universities need to place emphasis on computer literacy and familiarize nursing students with computer databases if they are to be
then for me to find it on the second try was amazing. I didn’t find everything I was looking for but I’m sure to find it next time I guess. But, I think if I try another website I can get more on being a nurse.
The need for innovation in medical care becomes a priority in a growing world, with the world population growing at an alarming rate, from 3.036 Billion to 7.125 Billion in just half a century from 1960 to 2013. The rapid increase in population has translated to congestion in urban centers leading to enormous waste production; a lot of pollution made due to excessive fumes from vehicles on roads and even water pollution due to a rapid increase in industrial activities in the quest to satisfy production. All these effects are increasingly resulting to higher frequency within which people acquire infections leading to the need for specialized medical care.
Nursing is a complex and ever changing field full of new areas to advance, learn, and grow in. Some of the institutes available for nursing studies are Harkum College and West Chester University. Kristine Balay, the nurse I interviewed, attended Harkum College for her Associates degree in Nursing and she attended West Chester University for her Bachelors degree in Nursing. She has been practicing as a nurse for about 10 years now in various settings. When she was working on a trauma unit she was required to obtain an ALS certification, Kristine admits that she was grateful for obtaining this certification because it sets her apart from others in regards to job opportunities and promotions as well as gives her confidence in situations.
The process of communication is very important in public health, which gave an effort to include a chapter of Communication in Public Health in the healthy people 2010 objectives for the first time. Health communication is seen to have relevance in virtually every aspect of health and well-being, including disease prevention, health promotion and quality of life (Rimal, 2009). With the combination of health information technology and effective health communication process, we can improve health care quality and safely to increase the efficiency of health care and public health service delivery. There are also potential to improve supportive care in the
When confronted with the need for information, nurses, like everyone, resort to Google, one of the most used search engine, and as cited by Miller et al. (2010)
Nursing is a field that demands for an individual is willing to go beyond professional boundaries when necessary. In the present age, the nursing profession needs to compete to develop themselves and the profession to be able to gain respect and higher level of standard for the profession. Responsibility and role of nursing professionals becoming highly challenging and more refined because of the global health care is evolved rapidly thus nursing professionals have to be more accountable and indirectly involved in the process of decision making ( Holder and Schenthal 2007 ). Therefore it is very important for nurses nowadays to continue to learn in the latest health care knowledge and technology. Holder and Schenthal (2007) also described
The first goal that I had in preparation for this research course was to learn as much as I possibly could! I feel that I have reached this goal and then some! I definitely have a greater understanding of the different types of research studies that are done quantitative versus qualitative, what the Institutional Review Board (IRB) stands for. That only names a few of the important topics on research that I have learned while learning in this course. All of which have helped help me gain a better understanding of the process to conduct nursing research. One of the important pieces that I learned was gaining a better understanding of the process that is established to ensure the right documents are submitted and followed through. These are all important pieces that are set up to guarantee the information that is collected from the patients stays confidential (different than HIPPA). Additionally, I wanted to learn the whys behind why we do research. I feel after the weekly discussions as well as the different articles that we had to research I met this goal as well, but definitely will continue to investigate and continue to ask questions and ensure that we are using evidence based practice concepts to support our research practices. Nursing research “encourages all levels of nursing personnel to find answers to clinical questions and incorporate the findings into clinical practice (p43 article) My third and final goal was to
The nursing field is not my future career, but is my current career as of July 21st 2015. Although, this is a milestone that I have already achieved, the field of nursing is complex. The difficulties that one faces in the beginning of this career, in my opinion, are some of the same difficulties that one will face throughout their entire career as a nurse, even when one “climbs the latter”. Looking through the list of problems that could present in the nursing field, there are a few that I consider to be detrimental to this day. There are staffing shortages (not just of nurses), high turnover rates of RN’s, occupational injuries and infections amongst staff, and lack of skilled RN’s (or in general, a lack of people becoming RN’s).
The database can simplify scholarly work because the articles that show up in your search are reliable reports verify by experts, helping nurses finding best nursing practice based on actual evidence (evidence-based practice). Finally, the database provides correct, significant, readily available information on many subjects (Compare databases, 2015) that can be used for personal development, which is "the process of improving oneself through activities such as enhancing employment skills [and] increasing consciousness" (What is,
As I read your post my mind drifted to memories of spending hours in the library, as a nursing student, researching different medications, diagnosis etc.; things have really changed. What a wonderful opportunity for nursing students today to get real time reference information.
Throughout history, society has considered women to be the natural caregivers of children, family, and community. Women were naturally thought of as nurses because the act was said to be an extension of their role in the home. They were called in to homes to help deliver babies or as wet nurses to breastfeed. In the 1800’s, women began taking care of soldiers. It was then that Florence Nightingale cared for soldiers in the Crimean War. During this time she revolutionized the role by setting standards of cleanliness and reducing infection. The legacy of nursing continues to be enriched by those who continue to follow the example of nursing pioneers. They refuse to be bound by others’ views
As a nurse it is their duty to do all for all for patience, but there comes time where nurses have to consider themselves as well. The concept that nurses owes to self as to others, is a justification that nurses have to take into consideration of their own safety as well as others. As a nurse you have to be able to make that judgment that your family needs you just as much as the patients at your job. That moment when nurses have to challenge their inner ethical values and distinguish between personal matters and non personal matters.
In this assignment I will be writing about the importance of research in nursing considering history of nursing and the difference between how research is performed nowadays. I will also be defining different types of research such as quantitative and qualitative research and giving an example of a nursing based research study that was carried out and how it is important to nursing presently.
