Why I Decided to Attend College
Six years after graduating High School, I have finally decided to pursue a college education. Three, fairly common, factors played in to my decision to go back to school: learning new things, building confidence in myself and pursuing my desired career. I understand that graduating college is a difficult task, which is why I must make a plan for my success and stick to it. I must also rely on my personal strengths and my motivation to guide me through the tough times that I am sure to experience on my road to success to get my degree in Criminal Justice. I have always been a person who is eager to learn new things. I always thought I was more of a visual learner and more hands-on learner than a verbal learner
There was many reasons why I decide to attend college. I am extremely tired of applying for distinctive positions and being rejected for not having a degree. I'm a supervisor now over thirty employees when I see different positions opening in management or higher position. I apply on behalf of the job, gain being interviewed for my experience. Nevertheless, not having a college degree really afflicts me. As a result, I decided to attend college and further my education.
I am a Hispanic who lives with wonderful parents who unfortunately could not go to college. It was very expensive for them to attend college. I will be a first generation college student seeking to make a statistical change. I want to be one of those few Hispanics that do go to college and end up getting a doctorate degree. I have lived all my life with one goal: to earn my doctorate degree. I am a young adult fully aware of the hard physical labor my parents have to go through each day to provide for our family. By helping them, I am more aware of how difficult it really is for them. I do not want to live in the tradition of most Hispanics: I do not want to end up in a job in construction, or landscaping that will not allow me to develop my
Recently, after I decided to join the military I decided it was time to begin attending school again. Many reasons influenced my decision. The biggest reason I could come up with is the fact that while utilizing tuition assistance I do not entail any financial obligations as long as I receive a passing grade in all my courses. Being in the military has also made me realize the importance of achieving a higher level of education. In order to be set apart among your peers you need to prove you are attempting to better yourself at every turn. Education is a great way to prove that. Not only that, education is one thing no one can ever take away from you. I'm applying to Colorado Christian University to see what amount of transfer credits I will
I graduated college in 2012 and have since adopted the city of Rochester as my home. My partner and I committed ourselves to this community last year when we bought a home downtown. I am intent on picking a career that is worth dedicating my life to and that will benefit others in my new community. The discipline in which I earned my Bachelor’s degree leads to a shallow career path that wouldn't benefit others in any fundamental way. I am only now redirecting my career and volunteering as a literacy tutor has been a rewarding first step. I became a tutor because of an awareness I gained while learning Italian as a second language and participating in a language immersion study abroad program where I lived and worked in Italy for six weeks and
The careers of choice fer me were rather easy. From the get-go I had known what I had wanted: A career in acting or writing. Perhaps, I would even delve into both worlds, acquiring a taste of each before I settled down and stuck with the one that satisfied me the most. Although I had known the jobs I would get, what left me bewildered was the path to them, and the information about them that I hadn't originally thought about. For example, I never realized how stressful working as an actor might be, after doing my research and reading personal stories online I've come to fully comprehend how tiring and stressful being an actor could be. From having to move from location to location in weather that you might not be acquainted with, to possibly
This is very intimidating for a single mother to write her first award winning scholarship essay. Someone like myself who has overcome numerous obstacles and hurdles in my life; this is truly one of the most unnerved. Nonetheless, I have declared that it is never too late to want a better future and to become the best of you for you. Growing up in a state where education was not the highest ranked in the nation. Young adults were expected to go into the military or get married after high school. College was never a priority in my community. Actuality, extremely naïve, I didn’t think I would need to go to college. I decided to get married and have a family. Looking back on my decision, I should have chosen college.
I chose to attend college because I do not want to be concerned about how I am going to take care of myself. I have witnessed adults struggle my whole life and I decided this past year that I do not want to be one of those people. I want my future to be more than stressing out over how something I need will have to be off because I can’t afford it. I want the people I care about to have everything they need and some of the things they want. My mother is in a nursing home and my ultimate goal in life is to get her into an assisted living. My mother had a stroke back in December that left her not able to ever live on her own. She does not need to be in a nursing home but she is not able to live on her own. I am attending to college to make my
When I graduate from St. Joseph high school I would like to go to college and attend Michigan State University to play football. After college, I would hope to go the NFL and play for a team even though my family wants me to go to the New Orleans Saints. When or if I make it to the NFL the first thing I am going to do when I get my first check I'm gonna buy a mansion. Second, buy my mom her own mansion somewhere private and probably her own island. Then I will hire people to make a complex for my whole family to live in. I want to have 1 son and one daughter and a beagle (dog). I want my son to be either an Nfl, NBA, or track star. And my daughter to be an actress, singer, dancer, WNBA, gymnast, or track star. If my dream as an NFL star doesn’t
When a student thinks college, the first thing they start to think is what do I want to major in. Most high school students have it set in their mind that you need to have a major going into college but that is not true. You can go into college undeclared therefor you do not need to know what you want to do in your life later on. Due to the fact that many high school students do not know what they want to do with their life, there are fairs like the financial literacy fair to show students what the real life is like. In our classes where BankNewport attended, we worked with them to choose a major to work with. This is where we then used that major to come up with a budget for the trip. During the financial literacy fair we went to many different tables to budget out monthly income. The question is, did I do well in budgeting my money.
I want to go through college and maintain a 3.0 g.p.a or higher while being on the track and field team all 4 years. I want to leave Christopher Newport University having broken the pole vault record and setting it even higher than it previously was. In the future I want to have graduated from college with my bachelor science in psychology then go on to graduate school and study criminal psychology and go further into detective work. I want to start a family have 2 children and live in a 4 bedroom house by the beach. I want to be able to live comfortably and not struggle to provide for my family. As long as my wife and children are happy then I know that I have been successful and in turn will be happy.
I chose to attend Xavier University, quite honestly, because Xavier offered to pay my way through school. The full-ride offer and being rejected by my top-choice university was what landed me at Xavier. I honestly thought that Xavier was one of the last places that I'd end up; nonetheless, I accepted it as my next school and was eager to get work on furthering my education. Once I realized that I would not be able to go to my top school, University of California at Berkeley, I realized that Xavier was going to be my stepping stone. My mentality was and still is that if I stay focused, work hard, and handle my business, that I will be able to get into Berkeley. I don't look at my position in a negative light at all; I've made relationships with
I am Toria Letirish Black and I am the first generation to attend college. I live with my mother and younger sister. My father is in prison and my mother is disable, so she is not able to work.
Looking at college make me want to jump around and be all happy because I will get out of high school and I get to live by myself. I know I won’t be happy when the time comes and I have to pay my loans and go to school and learn in a more rigorous way. Will I be able to choose what schools are right for me and know what kind of school it is or will I have to go to college with no knowledge of the college that I chose. Instead of going in blind I researched the top colleges that I would want to go to at the end of high school.
I grew up in a relatively small town, everyone when each and worked hard for a living. None of my family attended college, however they were all successful. My mother was had a full time job that she enjoyed, my dad own his own company, and also did my mother’s siblings. My dad only made it to the 8th grade. So I grew up thinking that I would follow in their footsteps and be a part of the working class. I had kids very young and so, that is what I did. I moved very fast in my position at work. I became a retail store manager for a million relate story when I was 21 year old and pregnant with my three children. Even though I had to work eighty hours to continue to be successful, I love it and gave it my all. Until my children became older
I was always academically inclined, education came easy to me. I never had to study hard and usually completed school projects the night before they were due. I excelled in math and science and during middle school became interested in becoming an engineer. I was a member of MESA and had participated in many competitions with the club, some of which I took first place in. I also took part in a few internships throughout high school, one at The University of Wyoming and one at CU Boulder. I received a full scholarship from The Metropolitan State College of Denver and was also a counselor for The Summer Bridge Program. I attended Metro the summer I graduated from high school, I took no time off. I thought I had my life all figured out, but once I started attending classes I quickly realized
