Love can be defined in many ways to many different people. It can be affected by their past experience, a romance novel they’ve read, or a love between two individuals they look up to. To most people it’s something they strive to experience, no matter the obstacles, heartbreak, or baggage that comes with it. Not too long ago I read an article about whether love is a choice or more than a feeling and it really made me wonder; wonder how can we tell if it is true love and when we’re ready for it. It lead me to ask the question, did Romeo and Juliet really love each other? Or was it just a simple feeling of lust? As a teenager you’re practically smothered in romanticism wherever you go. Whether it’s your relatives and their spouse, the …show more content…
Although love can be astonishing, it can be hurtful and negative if not treated the right way. Love can hurt someone mentally and physically because it’s such an overwhelming feeling that can cloud our judgement. Sometimes the choice of loving someone comes with regrets and inhumane decisions. A person may close themselves off from past experiences that come with a worry or should I let someone in? I’ve never actually experienced Pragma Love (long standing love), but I’ve witnessed the effects of divorce or when the feelings just aren’t mutual. I think love is a risky choice people take and the response we get from it can either be good or bad. In all, my definition of love is caring for someone so strongly that you’d never give up on them. Love is putting yourself after them in any situation. It’s a practice, something we learn to give and receive, depending on how open our heart is; we can be our natural self and not worry if we’re doing something wrong or if they won’t like me. We can dress down, act ditzy, and become the crabbiest person in the world and they could care less. When you’re having a bad day or you’re thinking of a regrettable action they erase that negatively and place positivity inside. Giving things up isn’t so easy, but when you need to do it for them you accept that and realize they need to be happy also. Love is letting yourself be happy when others say you
Through life, people experience many kinds of love. Many people often believe they love someone, when they actually do not because they may not know what the word means. As much as we want to understand love, it is still simply indescribable. As C.S. Lewis tries to explain it in his book, The Four Loves, it is still a mystery as to what love truly means. I believe in order to know what love means, one must experience it. It is quite true that went two individuals are in love with each other, they know it and can feel it. No matter how much love is studied and looked at, every individual must experience it to understand it. Along with this love lies circumstances which lead

Have you ever felt the feeling of butterflies in your stomach or heard the phrase “my heart skipped a beat for you”? As children, we grew up learning from our elders and experiencing new beginnings in life. Much of our knowledge has been brought upon by what we see and hear, rather of what we know. Many important decisions we make in our life has to do with what our feelings show us. Love is an important matter in our life because it motivates us in different ways. Love can be shown through emotions or even through actions. What is a valuable definition of love? A brief definition of love can be said to be a variety of different feelings or attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure. In other words, to me love is when
Young lovers defy their families’ long-established vendetta and jeopardize all they have to continue their relationship. The violent commotion between the two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, finally bring peace to their feuding families, with their own death. Like with many suicide cases, there are challenges and decisions being made that lead up to this decision. Often times, we question who contributed to the suicide. Regardless, others argue that Romeo and Juliet should be held accountable for their ultimate decision. Then again, there is no definite reason to assign fault to Romeo and Juliet. Not only are their brains not fully developed, but pressures from outside forces caused such stress within the relationship.
Love is like a flame, it provides you with warmth, but too much of it can also burn you. Such is the plot of the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. It is a tragedy about two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, who unfortunately, belong to families who bear an ancient grudge against each other. In the play, Romeo and Juliet fall in love and quickly decide to marry each other. At the end, Romeo and Juliet’s decisions cause their untimely death, but in reality, there were other people who also contributed to the lover’s death. Friar Laurence, the Nurse and Lord Capulet are responsible for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
Emotions are an important part of life. Without emotions, there would be no feelings, like sadness, happiness, anger, and the world would be dull. Sometimes emotions lead people to do things that defeat reason and go against what is ‘right’ in their society. So when do emotions defeat reason? Three books that illustrate strong emotions are, “Romeo and Juliet” a script by William Shakespeare, “Pride and Prejudice” a novel by Jane Austen, and “I am Malala” a memoir by Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb. These books help illustrate emotions are stronger than reason because in all books the main characters have to overcome a problem or obstacle where their emotions defeat reason. In “Romeo and Juliet”, Romeo and Juliet aren’t allowed to be
I have resided in Verona for the better part of forty years and never have I seen such a mishandled case as this. Firstly, the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is the tragedy of Verona. Their story comes only as a result of a deep seated hatred that in the past you have not condoned. Yet your strict attitude cost a man his life. Now three bodies have been laid to rest as a result of Romeo 's banishment. You should have allowed Romeo to remain in Verona following Mercutio and Tybalt 's deaths. The punishment may fit the crime, but not the circumstances. Romeo 's banishment was unjust.
“If love be rough with you, be rough with love” (1.4 27). Words of Mercutio, a supporting character. Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, an award winning play, depicts the story of a pair of star crossed lovers. Death one of the main themes, announced during the prologue, occurs many times throughout this play. Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, children of two different houses, fall into a deep love for each other that eventually plummets them to their demise. Shakespeare treats death as a punishment for those who did another wrong, and makes it almost humorous because of the amount of irony that led up to that moment.
In this piece of work I will be examining the reaction to loss of life in Romeo and Juliet, as well as 3 other poems. This piece will be analysing Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
William Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo and Juliet is filled with serious decisions. The two title “star-crossed lovers,” Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, not only decide to get married mere days after their first meeting, but also choose to carry out a ridiculous plan to avoid an unwanted marriage and eventually kill themselves (prologue). Although such subject matter is not often found in young adult novels, the impulsivity of this behavior is a mark of Romeo and Juliet’s teenage inexperience. Their immaturity ultimately results in drastic consequences— namely, their own deaths; however, their naiveté was not a hazard for the entirety of the play. The way it affects their decisions and relationships with others changes over time, different at the start of the book before they meet than at the end, when they both finally make the monumental decision to commit suicide. Before they first encounter each other, Romeo and Juliet’s immaturity is harmless, but after their first meeting and as their relationship develops, it begins to prove dangerous.
Shakespeare probably lived in one of the worst times to be alive. Considering that majority of what was happening was not good, he used it to his advantage. Numerous diseases and sicknesses, natural remedies and herbs and most importantly witchcraft. He somehow incorporated all these things into Romeo and Juliet. Assuming his creativity got the best of him, he used all these things in his play and they also played huge parts in his story. All things considered these three important factors in Romeo and Juliet have more history than people thought.
Shakespeare 's 'Romeo and Juliet ' variously links to the poetry; 'The Flea ', by John Donne, 'Valentine ', by Carol Ann Duffy, and 'Sonnet 116 ', by Shakespeare. The first association is through theme, as Sonnet 116 demonstrates the importance of eternal love and through situation, such as how 'Valentine ' ends with violent imagery, so does the play. Another way in which the drama links to the poetry is by character, Romeo and the protagonist of 'The Flea ' convey characteristics of a courtly lover in the beginning. The character in 'Valentine ' and Juliet both aspire to be honest and are pragmatic in their commitment. Lastly, the drama can be connected to the poetry through language/imagery/tone. A similar tone of bitterness is
Living in a human society is great, but never perfect. Not everyone gets along together and we do not all necessarily like each other. Humans can sometimes have fights and be hateful to one and another. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, hate is one of the main themes. The play is about two families, the Capulets and the Montagues, which have been in a feud for quite a long time. They would not hesitate to demonstrate their hatred to one another. Most readers would assume that the blame for the death of the young couple falls on them. However, other people are to blame. In this play, Romeo and Juliet, a teenage couple, die at the end of the play. The tragic death of Romeo and Juliet is the direct result of the feud between the two families, Benvolio (Romeo’s cousin) and Friar Laurence. The feud caused Romeo and Juliet to get married without their parent’s permission; Benvolio caused Romeo to meet and fall in love with Juliet at the Capulet’s ball. Friar Laurence got Romeo and Juliet married and he convinced Juliet to drink a potion to orchestrate her death, but it leads to disastrous consequences.
Explore the ways in which romantic love is presented through the character of Romeo in comparison to the attitudes of speakers in a selection of Renaissance and Metaphysical poetry by Donne, Marvell and Shakespeare.
Love has many different meanings to different people. For a child, love is what he or she feels for his mommy and daddy. To teenage boy, love is what he should feel for his girlfriend of the moment, only because she says she loves him. But as we get older and "wiser," love becomes more and more confusing. Along with poets and philosophers, people have been trying to answer that age-old question for centuries: What is love?
