Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Richard Lovelace

Blushes like a virgin.

Bright as the argent-horned mornes.

Certaine as wayes unto the blinde.

Chaste as th’ Arabian bird, who all the ayr denyes.

Chaste as the air.

Cold as the breath of winds that blow
To silver shot descending snow.

Fair as original light first from the chaos shot.

Gentle as chaines that honor binde.

Groans like a cannon-ball.

She’s as kind as new faln April showers.

Silent as the ev’nings ayre.

Swift as the thunderbolt.
