Expert Solution
Step 1: Introduction

Glucose can be metabolized in both aerobic and anaerobic pathways. The net yield of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the aerobic pathway is more than the yield from the anaerobic pathway. Metabolism of glucose into energy-storing ATP molecules in aerobic respiration occurs in stages at different parts of the cell. Aerobic respiration consists of four stages. They are,

  • Glycolysis
  • Pyruvate oxidation
  • Tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA)
  • Electron transport chain
