Question

Give the definition of a covalent bond. State why covalent bonds form in organic

Expert Solution
Step 1

The covalent bond that exists between two atoms in which electrons are distributed in an unequal amount is known as a polar bond. Due to this unequal distribution of electrons, the molecule will possess the dipole moment in which one end will have a partial positive charge and other end will have partial negative charge.

Step 2

The bond that is formed by the transference of electron completely from one atom to the other atom is defined as an ionic bond. On the other hand, the bond that is formed by the sharing of electrons between the two atoms is defined as a covalent bond. The main aim of both types of the bond is to have a complete octet of every atom.
