-The most critical component to Information Systems in order to grow and transform a business

The component of an information system that I believe is most critical to success in growing and transforming a business is the people. When it comes to information systems, teams of people are the ones who are charged with driving the rest of the components in the first place. They accomplish this in many ways such as decision making, innovation, and performing routine maintenance ensuring that these information systems are performing and operating efficiently. Teams of people are critical to the success starting with the design, development, launch, of the system altogether (Wallace 2020 p.9). In addition, “People” are the ones who are responsible for inputting the data, interpreting the data, establishing, and optimizing a process, and using the technology to ultimately transform and grow the business.

-Examples of Input Devices & My Favorite and Least Favorite

Two general categories of input devices are human input devices and sensors/scanners. Human input devices allow individuals to interact with computers and electronic devices by delivering commands/inputs. Some of these devices include anything from keyboards, to a mouse, microphones, and joysticks for controllers. (Wallace 2020 p.61). Scanners and Sensors or “Optical scanners” are another category of input devices and consist of devices that can “Capture text or images and convert them to digital format in thousands of settings” (Wallace 2020 p.63). These scanners and sensors scan things such as barcodes and quick response codes (QR) that “interpret the actual letters and numbers on a page to create a digital document”. (Wallace 2020 p.63). There are also several different input devices that also serve as output devices which includes any touchscreen devices/smartphones, at home smart speakers, and game controllers. Personally, I own and regularly use these devices mentioned above. Smart phones serve as input devices because they have means of taking voice commands or taking commands through typing via a keyboard. They also serve as output because of their display that showcases images, videos, text, and apps. At home smart speakers act as both due to their ability to take a voice command and respond with performing the appropriate action. Controllers work similar; however, they operate through buttons, joysticks, or triggers and perform the action or movement imputed by the operator. My favorite, and possibly the most superior in my opinion, that serves as both an input and output device is probably the smartphone. This is because the smart phone can accomplish/satisfy almost any task that needs to be fulfilled. My least favorite is the “at home” smart speaker. Typically, when I ask the speaker to perform a command, about half of the time it misinterprets the command and does something entirely different. I think the inconsistency is what makes this device my least favorite, as its just overall more convenient to accomplish said task using a smartphone.
