What impacts can early genetic testing have on lives of those afflicted? What implications could there be in the future for this type of testing?
Step by step
Solved in 2 steps
- Non-invasive methods of prenatal genetic testing are used before invasive methods. Why do you think that is?What is preimplantation genetic testing? Give an example of a condition screened for? Do you agree with preimplantation screening and what are some of the ethical concerns surrounding the practice? What are direct-to-consumer genetic tests? What are some of the concerns about these tests?
- A 45-year-old woman undergoes genetic testing and discovers that she is at high risk for developing colon cancer and Alzheimer disease. Because her children have 50% of her genes, they may also be at an increased risk for these diseases. Does she have a moral or legal obligation to tell her children and other close relatives about the results of her genetic testing?Contrast diagnostic and predictive genetic testing. What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of each form of testing?Define the Genetic Testing and Ethical Dilemmas ?
- What are the negative consequences of doing a genetic test?I believe that there are many good things that can come out of people getting to design their baby’s genetic material. But there are also many bad things as well. From the article by Bio medical about the pros and cons of having a designer baby it states that a pro is that this type of engineering can “ might help prevent genetic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s Disease, down syndrome, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and many others”. I think that it is great that we could get rid of Alzheimer’s due to how destructive it can be to the people that suffer it. But I think the other diseases that it can eliminate is horrible due to them making our world a more unique place such as people with autism, Down syndrome. By doing this it could eliminate the whole population of people with disabilities community and make everyone “normal”. Another bad that I found in the article Ethics of designer babies which states that a major flaw for these babies is “designer baby technologies suggest…Why Genetic testing has disadvantage on our body?
- What is your opinion on the use of DNA engineering in creating perfect genes of babies?Make a list of the benefits that may arise from genetic testing as wellas possible negative consequences. Discuss the items on your list.In this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXPIu8LazqI 1. Of all the latest innovations mentioned, why direct-to-consumer genetic testing is the most useful specially in our "New Normal" setup? How it can be helpful?
