If I were to be asked "why are you in Engineering?", I would likely not say to you that it is because I am a CIS gender male. I might tell you that it is because I am interested in a more math and science-based education, I want to make money or something along those lines. However, the faculty of engineering has a lot of gendered politics that are deep rooted in the hierarchal aspect of hegemonic masculinity and the subordination of woman. Personally for me, Governor’s School of Engineering is a chance to broaden my horizons even more in the STEM field. I want to experience the rigor and depth of the college level courses I will be taking in the near future.
