I’m not going to lie to everyone, writing is not my favorite thing to do in life. In fact, I’m looking forward to my last class for my bachelor’s degree and my last essay or paper to complete said bachelor’s degree. I cannot pinpoint whether my discord with writing is attributed to a lack of ideas flowing in my head, or the inability to translate my ideas to paper. With that being said, I started this class with a basic knowledge of the APA writing style and I’d like to say I had an intermediate level of understanding of grammar. After these past eight weeks of Writing 101, I now can easily setup and build an efficient APA essay and I’ve learned how to conform to the APA writing style’s reference page. In Honors English III, Mrs. Bryce assigned the class a research project. Although we were allowed to work in groups, all of the writing portions were expected to be done individually. We were allowed do to research on any topic that we wanted. Unlike most papers we had written, this paper would be written in APA format. Some of the work would be done in class, such as the Introduction and Literature Review. However, most of it was expected to be done outside of school. Some additional requirements was that we had a minimum of three data collection sources and three findings from them.
When this class started at the beginning of this semester I was not sure I would learn a lot. The main objectives of this class were fairly simple. There were five main objectives to use and know. They are the following:
The purpose of this assignment is to allow the learner to demonstrate writing skills, organizational skills, and ability to correctly present ideas and credit others in APA format when writing a professional paper.
Although this semester is coming to an end, I will continue to practice my writing skills by reading online articles. This summer I will read news articles from the LA Times, New York Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune and I will be looking for Associated Press style. Reading online news articles will be a continuation of practicing AP style just as we have in class throughout the semester. This help me in my future writing because when we read articles in class and highlighted AP style, it helped me learn the rules. The exercises we did in class was the best way for me to learn AP style because many of the rules I noticed in the news articles were the rules that were on quizzes and writing assignments. Over the course of this semester, my confidence in writing has improved greatly. In high school, I didn’t really know how to write effectively. I wasn’t really sure what was considered to be “good writing” until I took AP* English. However, even while I was taking this “Advanced Placement” class, I was still trying to figure out how to really create “good writing”. I feel as if this had something to do with the fact that I never really had to work with the rules of grammar intensively. After taking this course, however, I now have a much better understanding of how to correctly use proper grammar. I also improved on using transitional phrases in my writing. I have implemented my understanding of proper grammar and transitional phrases in both my writing inside and outside of this class as a result.
APA Formatting is very different from MLA, with APA the most distinct thing is the title page, this makes your paper look for professional and clean. APA still has other differences compared to MLA that will explain in this paper. When writing in APA format you want to make sure that you follow the step below on how to create a proper APA formatted paper. APA formatting is the main format for liberal studies majors, and it is important for you to know how to correctly write in it so you can have a structured and professional paper.
At 11:15 on Monday, August 17, 2015, my first official college class, English 1101, began. In general, I had no idea what college classes would be like let alone how college English would be. Even though this class taught me a great deal in one semester, it took a large amount of time and effort to make the adjustment from high school. The simplistic writing style of high school was put to rest the moment the first college English class began. As a result, I learned quickly that college writing is complex and less systematic than high school writing. Five paragraph essays with three strict body paragraphs were no longer the norm for writing. Even though my professor helped guide my writing, I was no longer coddled through the whole writing
Is Apa a good man? I wonder this to myself a lot during this book. Some might argue a definite no and go on to say he is a terrible role model and a terrible person. While some might argue there are good qualities and that he goes through so much for his family and perhaps he just shows his love and dedication for his family in a harsh way.
Reading week provided me an abundant amount of time to catch up on my courses (literally just economics) and work on my MSDA. The night before, I decided I did not really have to prepare anything for my MSDA pitch, it’d be a good representation of my creative abilities and see what I could come up with on the spot. It went pretty well I would say. Had sprained my ankle again two weeks ago so I was charged up and raring to kick some ass this week. Brought home another win for the flag team with 1td and 3 interceptions, alongside another W for the ultimate team, who were now 5-0. The responsibility of designing our NETA presentation and the application for our product was pinned on me. This year, AP English 3 has been my favorite class because of the wide variety of topics that we covered and the essay writing skills that we learned. By providing a large educational basis to students' writing, this class expands the learner's ability to communicate in a profesional, educational manner, a skill with which they will use for the rest of their life. As well as scoring eights (on a nine-point scale) on several English papers, the skills that I have grown and nurtured throughout the semester have helped me score fives or sixes on my AP US History essays (on a six-point scale). The first principle per the APA code of ethics is beneficence and nonmaleficence, this is where psychologist focus on the do no harm to their patients (APA, 2010, p.2). A psychologist is to strive to provide the best benefit to a potential client or individual they professionally work with and seek to safeguard their welfare and rights. The guarding of welfare and rights is also attributed to animals used in research. Among psychologist, conflicts will arise and should be handled accordingly to minimize harm (APA, 2010, p.2). Due to the possibility that a psychologist’s scientific judgment and actions may affect another’s life, they must be alert of their own personal, financial, social, or political views as they may be misused to influence others. The psychologist also needs to be aware of their own mental and physical health, so they are at their best capability when helping others.
During my first few months here at Bethel I have learned quite a bit about writing. I have learned about APA writing skills, punctuation, paragraphs and time management thus far. College writing is different than what I did in high school so it has taken some learning for sure.
In order to manage my time as a student, a routine schedule will have to be developed that accommodates all aspects of my life. In addition to a routine schedule, utilization of the technology that Bethel provides through the online library while learning the APA writing style. In watching the attend section several strategies stood out that would be beneficial to my writing, such as reading the paper out loud and giving yourself time for editing before submission. By utilizing these strategies along with Purdue OWL for APA will help to guide my transition as a student more smoothly. As for me, I am more a free-spirited person. I don’t look for religion to be in public schools. Religion is more towards private schools. In the video, it talks about religion, copyrighted laws, teacher liability, and child abuse. While watching this video, I don’t think any of this will affect me when it comes to teaching. I agree as a teacher it is your responsibility when the kids are under your supervision. When a child gets hurt, you are the one to get the blame because those kids are your responsibility.
