In Honors English III, Mrs. Bryce assigned the class a research project. Although we were allowed to work in groups, all of the writing portions were expected to be done individually. We were allowed do to research on any topic that we wanted. Unlike most papers we had written, this paper would be written in APA format. Some of the work would be done in class, such as the Introduction and Literature Review. However, most of it was expected to be done outside of school. Some additional requirements was that we had a minimum of three data collection sources and three findings from them.
Reflection: a. In my research papers, I used headings and subheadings to help keep my ideas organized to easy to read. For example, one of my heading was methodology

I also used an assortment of transition words while composing this paper. These words include although, however, and also. An example of times when I used a variety of transition words would be, "However, there are many steps staff members can take to create a safe and effective lockdown." When switching from this topic to the next I then wrote, "He also mentioned that all staff should have access to keys and doors that are not used commonly should be locked." I also used proper syntax, which allowed me to create well-formed sentences. For example, the sentence, "Lastly, we asked East High’s principal, Mr. Todd, some questions concerning the security budget at the school to see if there was any way to solve any of these problems." uses proper syntax. This sentence would have still made perfect sense if I has just said, "concerning the security budget at school," but by adding the word the it made it more well-formed. The use of both transitions and syntax was able to link the major sections of the text, create cohesion, and clarify the relationships among complex ideas and concepts. d. During our research paper, Viviana and I held a couple of interviews. In these interviews we would relate the questions we were asking to other topics, making it easier to understand. For example, we often made analogies between the Columbine school shooting and a school shooting that could possibly occur here if school security is not changed. When analyzing the data we also compared the
When this class started at the beginning of this semester I was not sure I would learn a lot. The main objectives of this class were fairly simple. There were five main objectives to use and know. They are the following:
A quality paper will include an introduction based on a well-formed thesis statement. The logical order of the paper’s content will be derived from the thesis statement. Sentences and paragraphs will be clear, concise, and factually correct. The content will be properly subdivided into sections derived from the outline or TOC. In a quality paper, the conclusion will summarize the previously presented content, and will complement the thesis statement from the introduction.
To write great transition sentences, you must understand transitional phrases and words such as “however”, “although”, “meanwhile”, etc. These are just a few of the many transitional words that you can use to make you paper cohesive. They are easy to employ in a sentence and give your reader clarity as to the direction a paper is moving in a very subtle way. Take a close look at the following sentence: In addition to reading the entire checklist and writing many drafts, Susan reached out to her peers for a fresh perspective on her paper. Can you spot the transitional phrase? Try this in your own writing and see exactly how powerful transitional phrases can
You want to make sure you have an introduction, body, and then a conclusion. Using Rhetorical strategies will help you tremendously when writing the paper. The rhetorical strategies are narration, description, examples, process analysis, comparison and/or contrast, classification, cause and/or effect, and definition. Narration is telling a story and making sure that story grabs the reader's attention. Description is using your word choice to paint a mental picture for the reader. Examples are when the writer uses specific to make a point. Process analysis is when the writer explains how something is done. Comparison and/or contrast shows similarities and differences. Classification breaks things down into different parts. Cause and/or effect explores the reasons why something happened. Definition explains what something
Topic paragraph identifies the work and provides the reader with clear short description of the work. It lays out the formal issues; other paragraphs are linked to the thesis by strong topic sentences and a logical arrangement of information
5. The statement advises to use key words from the middle paragraphs instead of listing sentences previously used to remind the reader but not repeat.
a. What is the topic of interest for this research article? Is it clearly identified in the title?
I’m not going to lie to everyone, writing is not my favorite thing to do in life. In fact, I’m looking forward to my last class for my bachelor’s degree and my last essay or paper to complete said bachelor’s degree. I cannot pinpoint whether my discord with writing is attributed to a lack of ideas flowing in my head, or the inability to translate my ideas to paper. With that being said, I started this class with a basic knowledge of the APA writing style and I’d like to say I had an intermediate level of understanding of grammar. After these past eight weeks of Writing 101, I now can easily setup and build an efficient APA essay and I’ve learned how to conform to the APA writing style’s reference page.
3: Out of all the research topics, this topic is the one I know the least about. Because research papers, although inadvertent, have bias due to the fact that outside knowledge had attained before the actual research, I thought
I share the same concerns on my writing as you. The APA guidelines are a continuing source of learning of rime. It is a goal of mine to master the APA guidelines. Regarding the course writing assignments I appreciate the Rubics. It serves as a map for me when I am completing my writing assignments. The Rubic also helps with the flow of my papers. When I am writing my assignments I approach my paper as a puzzle and allow the Rubics to serve as my guide. It is easier and less complicated for me to research, write and compile my paper. It may sound a little off but the process works for me. The information in the APA writing guide is extremely helpful. I am able to answer questions regarding my writing by referring the APA writing guide (APA,

I completed my directed reading-thinking activity with a five year old kindergartener named Austin, at Holly Academy. After having taught my first DRTA, I deliberated on it both individually and with my cooperating teacher. I have several things that I would like to reflect upon. Overall, I think that the outcome of my DRTA was effective. Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement.
Having only one AP class where I felt I could be successful, I enrolled into AP Studio Art for my junior year of high school. It was advertised that students would only work 4 hours a week on their own for it. In the past, I got high grades in my art classes, so, I thought it would be a better fit than the other three AP classes that were offered to me. I was so, so terribly wrong.
1. From the introduction: what is the general topic that the article is addressing? What is the purpose of the research described in this article? What is the author(s) hypothesis/hypotheses?
IV. Discussion: Use the lenses included in the paper rubric, as applicable, and discuss what your research ultimately tells us. Tie it all together. Also include what was missing from your investigation that you wish you could’ve found. Give suggestions for what researchers should examine next.
