In recent years, computers and notebooks have been widely used in various fields, and they have been paid attention to. Therefore, computers and notebooks become very important in life and work. At the same time, computer systems are also very important software for computers and notebooks, so we compare four different notebook platforms.
According to the article Operating Systems, “An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs” (Wikipedia, 2017). We can know the notebook platforms are very important.
Analysis
Notebooks Platforms
Today, we have four very practical notebook platforms. They are Windows, Mac OS, Unix and Linux. Windows system

According to the book New Perspectives on Computer Concepts, “Windows has been criticized for two major weaknesses: reliability and security” (2016, p. 160). Although windows has been used by large groups of users at any time, the reliability and security of the system are also being feared. According to the book New Perspectives on Computer Concepts, “The weaknesses of Mac OS include a somewhat limited selection of software and its use of resource forks”(2016, p. 163). In real life, Mac OS notebook has a somewhat limited selection of software but it is also used by some people. Maybe some people think Unix and Linux are the same, I can tell you, it is right. According to the book New Perspectives on Computer Concepts, “Unix system gained a good reputation for its dependability in multiuser environments, and many versions of it became available for mainframes and microcomputers” (2016, p. 164). The Unix system has a limited selection. And according to the book New Perspectives on Computer Concepts, “Linux typically requires more tinkering than the windows and Mac desktop operating systems” (2016, p. 164). The Linux usually distributed along with its source …show more content…
The most secure Mac OS and the least secure Windows, they are the most popular in the notebook market. However, Unix and Linux are used in large electronic or online companies. When I choose these platforms as consumers, I will choose Linux. As we all know, the market prospects of the four notebook platforms are very good. In contrast, I chose Linux because Linux is often used as the server's operating system and the advantages of Linux are very large in the future. Linux is used for various platform kernels, that is one of my favorite reasons. The Linux kernel can be used in a variety of large companies, which I am more sure about choosing it. The most important thing is that Linux also has very good reliability and safety. So I choose
Linux is the most important free software it has developed into a an operating for business , education , and personal productivity. Linux is so different because of its free implementation of Unix
Linux is a free open-source software that anybody can use . Most people use computers don't even know that Linux exists. Most people just use whatever is already downloaded onto the computer. Or if they buy computer that has no software on it they would buy Windows or Mac since it's displayed in many stores. Difference between Linux and windows / Macs is that you can download a version that specifically displays OS that relates to what you want to use it for. For example there's different distributions that are customized to be only used for editing software. or on the other hand many people just want to use the terminal or start with a o s that is used for coding. Either way you can find many different types of Linux that you can download anywhere on the internet. all of these being free. this is one of the main
1. Describe some reasons why Linux is installed on only a very small fraction of desktop computers. Are there particular categories of products or users who might see Linux as more appealing than conventional operating systems? Do you think Linux's share of the desktop market will increase? Why or why not?
Back in 1983 Department of Defense published series of book about security which had color code! The red book was related to network security and the security of system was discussed in the orange book. Base on the orange book an operating system based on its secure design and implementation can be in one of these categories: D, C1, C2, B1, B2, B3, and A1 which is from no security up to Verified protection. Base of Orange book and another evaluation system called Common Criteria both Linux and Windows has similar security. And most security based on how one server implements and being used on each platform.
The first OS we are going to look at is Linux, it can be a hard system to use and understand, if you have not used it before, you must have a good knowledge of computers in order to deal with Linux. Commands have to be typed in on the command line, and most people do not know or understand command line text. Linux does not have a great number of vendor selling their computer or software, so there is not a good support system for it.
First, Windows-based computers are more practical for many reasons. The most prevalent of this being that mostly everyone uses them. When using computers, consistency is very important. If mostly everyone is using a certain
We have a choice of using either Windows or Linux for operating system, since they are already preloaded on the servers we are purchasing. In making our decision, we had to first take a look at the features that each system provided and which one would be the best for what we are doing.
Linux can choose the most suitable Linux-based server system. Those operating system have adequate compatibility with the common hardware. For the example, Ubuntu is listing the suitable hardware for the software they've developed.
For many years there have been a small group of Mac users who continue to claim that the hardware and software platforms they have been using is superior to the PC Intel based platforms.
In the workplace today there are many different options for operating systems be they providers of server related services or end-user desktops there is a different Linux distribution for many different applications. There are also a number of advantages and disadvantages to adding onto or switching network operating systems within a company. In the following pages I
There are advantages and disadvantages of Linux operating system. The first advantages of Linux operating system is it is free to obtain [3]. Unlike Microsoft, Linux distribution can be installed on more than one computer without any cost charged [3]. Besides that, Linux can run perfect on old computers and enable users to browse the Internet, email, play games, create and edit documents and others [3]. In security aspect, Linux is much stronger than Windows. This is because Linux uses smart authorization management [5], which requires user to authorize any action that might harm their computer by entering the password [5]. By this way, users are less likely to be tricked into installing malware and running virus programs [5]. In addition, if user faces any technical problem, they can visit any of the Linux online forums and post the
When looking at an Operating System one could often say that an Operating System is a large sum made up of small separate parts. Much like how Knuth describes computer science being the “wall of mini stones”. The Operating System, or the “OS” can be defined as “software that communicates with the hardware and allows other programs to run”. (TechTerms.com, 2012) The Operating System makes use of two modes known as User Mode and Kernel Mode in order to
Both Windows and Linux come in many different forms. All the different forms of Windows come from Microsoft, the various distributions of Linux come from different companies (ex. Red Hat, SuSE, Linspire, Ubuntu, Mandriva, Knoppix, etc). Windows has two main lines: “Win9x”, which is consists of Windows 95, 98, 98SecondEdition and ME, and “NT class” which consists of Windows NT, 200 and XP. On a side note, Windows first had version 3.x which was made before Windows 95 by a couple of years. The various types of Linux are called distributions. All the Linux distributions released around the same time frame will use the same kernel, which are the guts of the OS. They will differ with the add-on software provided,
Three operating systems discuss in this paper each have their advantages and disadvantages from one another. The biggest advantage for Microsoft is the widespread use and compatibility with most every type of program out there. If you 're a Linux fan then you appreciate not only the price which is usually free but also that it is
As you are reading this essay, you are most definitely using a piece of technology whether a laptop or a desktop computer. As we can see in our society, technology is booming in our industry. Every year, technology scientists discover new amazing features that later get implanted into our daily used electronics. These days, one of the most known technology companies like Microsoft and Apple, compete with each other to release what’s best for their customers especially in computers. Apple and Microsoft might be both manufactures and sellers of similar functional computers but, there are many differences in the way their operating systems attract different people with different style. From the different structure of coding, to the same purpose of creating a type of style people feel most comfortable of using. Having a different mechanical structure and it’s components but, with the same functionality it produces. Lastly, getting use to these operating systems on these machines both take time but, which options they provide will depend who’s the buyer.
