What is virtualization?
It is the creation of a virtual version of something. Which includes:
• Computer hardware platforms
• Operating systems
• Storage devices
• Computer network resources
It is the creation of a virtual version of a device or resource. It gives a virtual view computing resources. Its allows you to turn one server into several hosts.
Brief History of Virtualization
When you think about the term Virtualization, the company VMWare most likely will come to mind. In fact, you may not realise that it actually started back in the early 1960’s. it was pioneered by companies like General Electric, Bell labs, and International Business Machines (IBM).

It involves embedding virtual machine software into the component of a server. It’s most commonly known as hypervisor and virtual monitor are the most common.
It is a rapidly growing technology that is getting popular in server platforms. The simple idea is putting several small physical servers into one large physical server so the processor can run effectively.
The hypervisor controls the processor, memory and other components. The hypervisor allows several different operating systems to run at once on the same machine. The OS running will appear to have its own processor, memory and other components.
Desktop Virtualization This often is called client virtualization. It is considered a type of client-server computing model which the virtual desktop is stored on a centralized server and not on the machine being used.
You interact with a virtual desktop in the same way you would with a real computer. A big plus is you can remotely log in to access your desktop from any location

Virtualization is a combination of software and hardware engineering that creates Virtual Machines (VMs) - an abstraction of the computer hardware that allows a single machine to act as if it were many machines, or a computer that does not physically exist as a piece of hardware. The hardware that is seen by the operating system is emulated in an effort to separate the physical hardware from operating system. This allows the virtual machine to be moved and hosted on any machine independent of hardware. Virtualization technology is possibly the single most important issue in IT and has started a top to bottom overhaul of the computing industry which is why many companies around the world have are using its softwares to enhance their business opportunities.
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to persuade my audience that using virtualization technology is beneficial for both organizations and the environment. I would like my audience to realize that implementing virtualization can have positive effects for organizations and the environment. My central idea is that virtualization technology cuts down on cost.

By using virtual servers, our company is able to run everything on our physical servers. This includes our ERP, file and print, login server, applications, and mail. Our company will obtain a total of 10 Windows
It allows network administrators to create a virtual server environment by using some of the server’s resources. By doing this, it creates virtual/private servers and one of the benefits of this is that it would cost less money to use virtual servers rather than physical servers as hardware maintenance would not be required. Also, if one virtual server goes down, the others will still be left running. In the example above, there are 4 physical servers. Server Virtualization only needs one physical server to be able to create the virtual servers.
