When somebody lives in a city like Toronto, it is almost essential to use a car most places a citizen has to go. The big question is, are cars the answer? Or should cities like Toronto, start promoting other transportation methods?
What is inefficient transportation?
Cars are a very well known source of transportation, especially in the metropolitan cities in Canada. Although there is one major problem about cars, gasoline. Gasoline is the substance that a car essentially needs to function, unfortunately gasoline is horrible for the environment, our bodies, it's a nonrenewable resource and it costs a lot of money. Transportation uses that need fossil fuels to function, for example cars do cause climate change. When cars are being put to

One particular town in china called, chengdu. Has created a town where it is not essential to drive. Every service can be reached by walking in approximately fifteen minutes and the road land use will be cut in half to reduce the amount of cars. By reaching bigger cities chengdu provides efficient public transit. This is an example of new urbanism, which can definity reduce the amount of air pollution, traffic and created by cars. (Peters, 2015). In tokyo japan they have an unique source of transport called a shinkansen, which is a bullet train. This model can convince some citizens to ditch their cars and use the bullet train to get to their destination much quicker. To prove that this model is efficient tokyo isn't on the most polluted cities in the world list or the most congested cities list either. This would really reduce canada's traffic and our air pollution levels. Having one train going to a destinations instead of having a few thousand cars backing up on the 401. In china and mexico the government only lets portions of the population drive on certain days. This idea allows for there to be less traffic and air
Three quarters of emissions in 2004 were coming from road traffic (Woodcock, p.1930, 2009). Emissions used from transportation are forecasted to increase from the year 2007-2030 by about 80% according to studies done by James Woodcock who is currently studying climate change and health from car fuels (Woodcock, p.1930, 2009). This is due to the fact that the emissions from vehicles are increasing significantly and are higher than any other energy fragment (Woodcock, p.1930, 2009). The only way to lower this percentage is to decrease the number of individual automobiles on the road and increase the number of public transit systems, starting long distance walking to work or school, carpooling or even biking to destinations. These principles would
With a declining or no use of cars can result in the reduction of pollution quite tremendously. They can by reducing the greenhouse effect. As the author reports in the article, “In German Suburb Life Goes On Without Care” by Elisabeth Rosenthal, “Passenger cars are responsible for 12 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe… and up to 50 percent in some car-intensive areas in the United States.” Therefore, with cars being a leading factor of greenhouse gas emissions, reducing their usage would have a positive effect on the environment. After days of near-record pollution,
The city life often referred to as an experience like no other. The big change an individual makes when moving from a rural area to the city affects all aspect of a person life. This movement is called urbanization; “is a population shift from rural to urban areas, "the gradual increase in the proportion of people living in urban areas", and the ways in which each society adapts to the change. Urbanization is predominantly the process by which towns and cities form and become larger. It usually occurs when a country is still developing or the better services available in the city. The rate of urbanization in Canada is 1.12%
Everyday people in Toronto travel to places using public transportation. Without public transportation, we wouldn’t be able to go to places that are far away from us. We needed them in our everyday life but there are key problems that surfaces when using public transportation. Public transportation may seem convenient but for others it may not seem ideal for them from certain circumstances such as the cost, lack of transportation in a certain area and the delays. These make people not want to ride a public transportation which is why Toronto should improve on the public transportation to make the best interest for the people.
Transportation in the region has a long and successful past. However, public transportation has consistently taken a back seat to the personal automobile. There has been a strong core of persons who rely on public transportation to achieve mobility, and governmental
All in all the industrial revolution had a positive effect on society, accomplishing things many do not realize and creating a turn of events that would put the USA as the world power. New farming methods meant better diets, which lead to lower death rates. Efficient and useful inventions, as well as machinery, made it easier for people to work, and made more job opportunities, as well as enjoyment in the workplace. More and easier ways of travel became commonplace, such as railroads. In addition, as cities began to grow, streetlights provided safety at night, and our economy grew greatly. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because it caused children to be used as workers and made school
Midyear Essay Rewrite The expansion of trade led to the urbanization of Europe in the late Middle Ages through the development of towns, guilds, and the rise of education. Urbanization is the process by which cities form and expand. As trade expanded, a city's popularity could grow and more merchants would want to travel there to receive more business and customers.
The money goes towards building an efficient mass transit system that gives about 4 million rides a day, and it makes car buyers think twice before purchasing a vehicle that is going to cost them a fortune (Source B). Although the idea of using the money to build a mass transit system seems controversial to reducing air pollution, mass transportation, such as Singapore’s, actually emits about 62 percent less pollution per passenger mile compared to a single operating vehicle, according to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). If the U.S. government were to carry out a policy similar to this, the amount of pollution emitted by roadside transportation would drastically decrease due to the limited access of cheap vehicles and unlimited access of mass transportation.(does this work?). The positive effects of green policies have already been seen in the U.S. through the Clean Air Acts of 1970 and 1990, which were set to control pollution and are upheld by the EPA and the White House Administration, . This act
If the public transportation improves, more and more people would take buses instead of driving. Then there would be less CO2 for our environment. Mohammad-Beigi, Nouri and Liaghati (2015) claim that the population in large cities is growing very fast, which means that transportation needs also increase really fast which leads to environmental problems. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, improving public transportation is a good solution. This study shows that driving cars really causes air pollution and it is harm for our environment. Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona, so the population growth in Phoenix will lead to the same problem that the three author mentioned. Improving public transportation will be helpful in decreasing the number of drivers and therefore reducing toxic emission. According to the PR Newswire Europe Improving public transportation in Brasilia (2009) claim public transportation is good because buses are more orderly, and they are safer and have less impact on the environment. It also shows that public transportation can help to reduce air pollution. Phoenix is an urban city like Brasilia, so it has a similar situation. Improving public transportation would be a good solution because it will lead to less driving. Then we will reduce exhaust gas
In comparison to some parts of the Western world, both the United States and Canada relies more heavily on its roads both for commercial and personal transit.[citation needed] Car ownership is nearly universal except in the largest cities where extensive mass transit and railroad systems have been built.[citation needed]
1.Should city centers have cars on the streets? There are pros and cons to have cars in the city centers. The good thing about having cars banned in the city center is that Banning motor vehicles has made working and living in city centers much more enjoyable for commuters. Without the gases that the vehicles let out, commuters no longer gag on harmful fumes while rushing to and from Work.
This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars, specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York City’s congestion problem is to decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would not try to “beat the light,” in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one-way streets to two-way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing
Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe, citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to strive for and meet in the near future.
In all countries transportation has always been a staple I every community, city, state and country. Without some form of transportation it would take forever for one person to point B from point A. To solve the issue people began using animals as transportation. The horse was the most popular form of transportation because it was very fast and multiple people could ride on a horse at a time. Then people began being transported by horse and buggy, which eventually led to trains and cars. Today transportation is no longer an issue, but the price for transportation is a huge issue. With gas prices constantly rising year after year and cost of living going up, people in society are trying to live more efficiently. To live more efficiently Taxis and metro were created but today they are no longer the most efficient way to travel. To travel efficiently a company in the United States created something called UBER. Uber is the next big thing when it comes to travel efficiency and it would benefit other countries as well.
Automobiles are a major producer of greenhouse gas. One gallon of fuel burned puts five pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Let’s say that an average car gets 25 miles to the gallon, and that car has a ten gallon tank. Every time a car gets filled up with gas, another fifty pounds of carbon dioxide have been put back into the atmosphere, and that is just one car. The automobile industry is very important to the world economy, so I am not saying that we should stop making cars, but there are other solutions. The recent trend of hybrid electric cars that get up to fifty miles to the gallon are becoming more popular. Also public transportation is very important. City dwellers that live downtown, do not need to drive their cars to work. Every major city has a form of public transportation that can get anyone around the city, and for that gallon of gas a bus burns the same five pounds reaches the atmosphere, but instead of one
