Nicholas Carr, the author of the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” illustrates various ways that the internet is negatively affecting our brains. He explains how people are growing dependent on technology every day, and he claims that the internet is a resource that can be used for anything, including reading and learning. According to Carr, the internet distracts people from the real world and it is a waste of time. He writes that the media is a shortcut to information and it is making people get used to having information quickly and conveniently. The author states that Google and the internet are trying to replace our brains with an artificial brain that can be faster in some contexts. Moreover, Carr’s article sparked debate for others to research the topic, thus creating an ongoing debate whether we are weakening our brain when it comes to internet searches. Overall, Google and the internet in general are, for the most part, helpful with the information they offer, the communication they make possible, and the virtually limitless technology they provide.

Within the last couple of decades, technology has become a huge part in everyone’s daily lives. Everyday we look at our phone almost every five minutes and when we get home we all hop on some other form of technology such as our computers or televisions. However, this is almost exactly what Aldous Huxley and Neil Postman fear. There are some truths and some falsehoods to the statements that Postman proposed such as the idea that we will begin to enjoy our oppression, we will be ruled by the very things that we love, and that we will eventually be thrown so many lies that we will seize to know what the truth is and we will be exploring both sides of these assertions.

Lindeen takes the perspective of gun control away from the people. He says the regulation of gun control does not need to be through gun control itself, but through the actions leading to the gun control. The Academic Decathlon is an annual high school competition organized by the nonprofit United States Academic Decathlon Association. It consists of seven multiple choice tests, two performance events, and an essay. The Academic Decathlon team at Ridgefield Park High School is coached by Mrs. Grandov, and had participated at the Regional Competition at Ramapo High School on January 30th. Throughout my life, I have always been an avid reader and a lazy writer. Ever since I discovered comic books in my younger years, I have passionately engaged myself in any books I can find. I read through books quickly and I try to delve deeper by going past the surface of the writing. I generally like to read either realistic or science fiction and when I read something that interests me, I like to read for hours without stopping and seldom do I like to take breaks while reading. In the past year, I have tried to read harder books and more non-fiction to become a stronger reader. As a writer, I often feel unmotivated due to my lack of interest in the topic. My attention span while writing is quite short so I generally like to take my time when completing essays.
