The tragedy has been performed many times for hundreds of years. Although the ending is tragic, it was preventable. One of the first bad decisions was made by Romeo, when a servant asks him to read a list of people invited to a Capulet party. Romeo reads the list and realizes that the woman he loves, Rosaline, is attending the party (Shakespeare 385).Romeo then decides to sneak into the party, eventually leading to him meeting, and falling in love with, Juliet. Romeo declined because of his love for Juliet. Tybalt ended up killing one of Romeo’s good friends, Mercutio, which caused Romeo to cry out: “This days black fate on more days doth depend, this but begins the woe others must end.”(Shakespeare 428). Romeo was then given the punishment of exile from Verona for killing Tybalt. This slaying of Tybalt was another fatal decision. Juliet was devastated when hearing of her husband’s exile and ran to Friar Lawrence for help. She told the friar she was willing to die to be with Romeo, and together they decided to fake Juliet’s death. Their decision to inform Romeo after Juliet’s “death”, and not before, was another reason that this play ended
Romeo and Juliet is a beautiful story by William Shakespeare in which the reader observes the bold and rash character of Romeo. He falls in love at the first sight with his wife, Juliet. Their families have been feuding for generations; therefore, they make a plan to run away and live a life of joy. However, this plan falls through and many are killed throughout this dangerous journey including both lives of the lovers. Because he does not think before acting, Romeo is brought into dangerous and avoidable situations. His biggest flaw of being rash and rushing things affects himself and the people around him physically, mentally, and emotionally.
In the play, Tybalt has a large influence on the death of Romeo and Juliet. He helps contribute to their deaths because he kills Mercutio and Romeo in turn kills Tybalt which causes Romeo to be banished from Verona. Then Juliet tells “Romeo is banished!” “There is not end no limit, measure, bound. In that word’s death: no words can that woe sound.” (Act III Scene II 128-130) If Romeo had taken the time to think before killing Tybalt he would not have killed him and therefore he would not be
In the play, Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, is about two “star crossed” lovers who are destined to end in a tragic accident. Fate is the path that leads to the future and cannot be altered no matter the outcome. Set in Shakespearean time, fate was believed to be in control of people’s lives. The fact that Romeo and Juliet would never live a peaceful life, none of the tragedies would have not taken place if they had not met. In the prologue of the play, Shakespeare outlines that “two star’d crossed lovers take their life”. This foreshadowing creates the sense that fate shall claim superiority. The powerful nature of Romeo
In William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, we meet the characters and how their actions led to a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet met, end up falling in love, and – since both cannot dream of living without the other – take their lives. While the play ends in a tragic death for both characters, it was their own reckless decisions; though others might believe that it was destiny that played a large role in the lovers’ downfall. However, the majority of the text evidence points to them making their own choices leading to their demise.
In the play of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, William Shakespeare explores the idea of fate, through the characters experiences. The play was taken place during the Elizabethan Era where the social norms were completely different to those today and the idea of fate was well and truly believed by the society. Shakespeare incorporates this concept of fate in different ways, he makes references to celestial bodies, employs premonitions and orchestrates events where Romeo and Juliet have no prior knowledge off. He introduces the two young lovers as ‘star-crossed’, which means their relationship is destined to end in tragedy and this is supported by events that occur in the play. Specific events
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. Both Romeo and Juliet are young and sprightly teenagers, Romeo being 15-16 and Juliet with the age of 13. They are teens that make impulsive decisions without thinking about the consequences. David Dobbs the author of the article “Beautiful Brains” explains why teenagers act the way they do throughout scientific research and studies. This article helps to understand Romeos and Juliets actions which led to their deaths.
Romeo could have chosen any girl to be with instantly, but instead he had to pick a Capulet, one of his family's enemies. His infatuation with the idea of love causes him to believe that he had true feelings for Juliet. However, his actions toward Juliet shows his obsessive and clingy personality. He was with Rosaline one day and the next with Juliet. He was so desperate to be with someone, he had to marry Juliet. Friar went along with the proposition and married the two of them. Romeo didn’t even think of what consequences they could have faced if they became married or how their families would feel of the situation. To be married at such a young age, Romeo cannot possibly handle all of the obstacles that hang in the future. When Romeo went to the Capulet ball uninvited, Tybalt felt offended and sent a letter challenging Romeo to a duel. Romeo was relaxed and tried to solve the argument words, but instead Tybalt insulted Romeo by calling him a villain. Instead riling him into a fight, Romeo responded with, “But love thee better than thou canst devise/...And so, good Capulet—which name I
Love or lust, one drives the story of Romeo and Juliet all the way to tragic end. In act one scene two in the streets of Verona, Benvolio, Romeo's cousin, tries to convince Romeo to go to the Capulet's party to find another woman and forget his old love, Rosaline. Finally, Romeo agrees and tells his cousin Benvolio, "I'll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendor of mine own." When Romeo agrees to go to the party he has just chosen to affect his future based on the decision. He has agreed to take the risk of angering the Capulet's and whatever consequences come with angering them. Romeo determines that based on what happens at the party will choose what happens next in his life. Romeo left the party not only leaving the Capulets angered, but also left him rebounding with Juliet, because of hi old love, Rosaline.
Didn’t Elvis say it best when ever he said, “Wise men say only fools rush into love”. This idea is expressed throughout the world because so many mistakes are made whenever people rush into love. It seems as though love has a powerful hold on people and they just can’t help what they do once they are in love. It is as if they are almost blind to everything else around them, and also blind to the consequences that might come from their choices that they make. Teenagers seem to be more at risk for such frivolous love due to the fact they have lived such ephemeral lives. Since teen brains are not fully developed it can lead to fickle or poor decision making, and sometimes leads to making choices that result in teen pregnancy. Poor decision
Romeo and Juliet killed themselves, but how did it happen? Was it destiny or their own actions? A lot of it was them trying to hide, but Romeo got in trouble, so it was by their own individual choice that they died. Romeo had made some wrong decisions. First one was going too quickly with Juliet as he met her on Sunday and is marrying her on Monday as Juliet said “of love be honorable thy purpose marriage” and Romeo replied “by the hour of nine”(Shakespeare page 40-42) this evidence explains that they married one day after as they are speaking at night on the day before.
“What’s meant to be will always find a way” (Trisha Yearwood). There is always a way to be with the person you love, Romeo and Juliet found that way. In the city of Verona there are two rival families, the Montagues and the Capulets. The children of each family end up meeting each other and falling in love. Over the course of the story the two make naive decisions so they can be together. In Romeo & Juliet, William Shakespeare uses character to reveal that adolescence can lead to making misguided decisions.
Everyone one knows the beautiful tragedy that is Romeo and Juliet. But who is responsible for that tragic undoing, their own poor decisions or Fate? Romeo and Juliet’s poor decision making skills are the reason they had their misfortune and “Fate” had nothing to do with it. Fate is just an innocent bystander because 1) Romeo made the decision to kill Tybalt, 2) They chose to get married after 2 days, and finally 3)
William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is centered around the tragic story of two “star-cross’d lovers”. A tragedy is a dramatic story that chronicles the downfall or death of a tragic hero. Tragedies usually depict the causes of a tragic hero’s downfall, which are most commonly a tragic choice or a tragic flaw. There is often some sort of greater power at play in tragedies, like fate. A key aspect of tragedies is both fate and free will leading to the downfall of a tragic hero. In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet’s immaturity, the feud between the houses Capulet and Montague, and fate cause the deaths of the two young lovers.
Fate is discovered to be responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet with the impulsive events it bestowed on the two lovers. The actions that led to the partners’ cruel ending was all caused by fate itself, as shown in the beginning of the love story, “a pair of star-crossed lovers,” led to this future holder foreshadow the two to, “take their lives,” resulting in a tragic closure for these young adolescents. It was set upon already that Romeo’s and Juliet’s relationship would be wrecked with disasters and serious consequences, and fate is the reason due to the fact it was the one that placed the misfortune onto the two lovers that only desired each other. With the metaphor and foreshadowing of the lovers’ deaths, it reveals fate is the cause of this catastrophic outcome as it holds the power of their destiny; giving Romeo and Juliet the melancholy love they had no ability to control.
