Being a Teen and Pregnant

As us females were young we all seem to become mothers, by playing with dolls, and playing house with others our age. It may be easy for us to say that as children we thought they needed some assistance, but in reality that was only our imagination. As little kids did we really think about what it would be like to really have a baby? We were children, but see the thing here is that teens are still children who are having other children. 16 year olds do not just wake up thinking they want to have a baby, most of the time it just happens without being planned. Teens often do not think about what life would be like as a parent which is easy to happen and we should be informed on the reasons why and what it really is like.

Just because teenage pregnancy has decreased does not mean the problem is solved. Nearly all teenage pregnancies are unplanned. Teen mothers are nearly twice as likely to forgo prenatal care in the first trimester. This sets up complications along with health problems, costs, responsible fatherhood, education, and risky behavior. Babies are having babies before they’re even fully developed themselves; the environment, and media along with other things are all factors that determine why and how teens are getting pregnant.

You're still a baby yourself! This is the first thought that comes to mind when I see a teenager with child. Even though it's extremely disturbing to see, it has become more and more common these days. Is this the new “trend”? Or should we question the parenting skills the child is receiving? Maybe this girl has been messed with by a relative or a family member. Whatever the case maybe, how can we help these kids in preventing pregnancy at an early age. Lets try to figure out where we went wrong as parents, caregivers, nurses, etc. in raising and educating these babies about having babies.

Knowing that teen pregnancy is closely linked to a host of other critical social issue, e.g. poverty, income, overall child well-being, health issue, education, just to name a few. There are also substantial public costs associated with adolescent childbearing. Consequently, teen pregnancy should be viewed not only as a reproductive health issue, but as one that works to improve these measures.

Teen pregnancy has become an increasing conflict in the United States. Facts stated by the Center of Disease control, provides evidence that the United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the world. Mississippi is proven to be the most affected area in the U.S showing out of 1000 pregnant teens, 68 births occur. Why are teen pregnancy rates so high in the United States? What happened to sex education and prevention for teen pregnancy? Why did the parent-child sex talk not work? The goal of this paper is to answer these questions and understand the relationship that parents have with their teenagers. It is important to understand that parents play a crucial role in their teen’s lives and have a tremendous impact on teen pregnancy prevention.

Image a young teenage girl in your high school with her whole life ahead of her. She has all her goals and her future planed out but all of a sudden she becomes pregnant all her hard worked and everything she had conquered was all going away now. All her dreams flushed down the drained because she was soon to be a teen mom. She was soon to realize that begin a teen mom is not as easy as it seems. There are a lot of things that has to be done to prepare for a baby and a lot she has to give up now. Being a teen mom is not easy at all there is a lot that has to be done such as preparing to bring a child into this world , making sure our baby is healthy throughout the pregnancy , get annual checkups , stop any sports you’re doing if any . All of your fun days are over. No more parties or hanging with your friends .You will start to miss tons of days of school because of all the appointments you have to go to and by you begin tired all the time and not feeling well .

Teen pregnancy is often unplanned and challenging for the future life of mother and child. The increase risk of health problems for both mother and baby occur during teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy impacts adolescent development in all aspects: physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development. Negative consequences result from teen pregnancy include: low income, increased school dropout rates, lower educational levels, and increased rates of substance abuse (Garwood, Gerassi, Reid, Plax & Drake, 2015).

Pregnancy is beautiful; however, for a teenager it can be a philosophical event with long term implications. Wall-Wieler stated that, “Teenage pregnancy is having at least one pregnancy between the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive)” (4). Such a situation for teenagers comes with many obstacles. Adolescence would lose the opportunity to fully enjoy their teen years. This is a once in a lifetime experience, which would be cut short because of engaging in adult activities. There is also the possibility of frustration, depression and confusion because the situation might be too much to handle. In most cases, teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the pregnant teen because it will force them to be fully committed to the concerns and needs of the child while neglecting their own.

Teenage pregnancy is a common thing here in America. It seems teens are getting pregnant more than the average married couple. There are some risk factors teen moms face and there is also another great turn outs. There is a major difference between the two. It’s important to tell teens the turnouts of teen pregnancy for the good and bad parts. There are risks of having sex, teen moms can make a difference for her and the baby, the risk of having HIV and/or any other STD’s, and the effects on the baby and mom. It has been said that teens across the world have not been receiving enough sex education. This has led to many issues with teens becoming pregnant, which most of the time is unanticipated. Teenage pregnancy has been a social problem throughout the world for a number of decades now. Many studies have been completed in several countries that pertain to the amount of teens and the types of teens who are becoming pregnant. Rates among teens had been declining for some time, but are starting to take a turn and increase. This is still a significant social problem, though some people do not perceive it like it is.

The aspect of teen pregnancy is one of the most challenging situations to be in as a young person as it could interrupt flow of school activities in their lives and other plans. It can also result into an emotional crisis as the teenager will feel ashamed of themselves and get into fear and if not controlled they may be subdued by the pressure from the daily environment. The stress of breaking the news to the parent may be overwhelming and the steps towards getting help may be difficult and futile (Adoption Media, 2012).

Teenage pregnancy is one of the major problem that the world is facing today. Early pregnancy or teenage pregnancy is dangerous to teenage girls’ health because it may cause cervical cancer, aids, and eventually death.
