My love for the business aspect of healthcare has contributed to me wanting to make a difference in other people's lives, and help improve the lives of many people. That's why one unforgettable experience that has taught me to be firm in spite of difficulty and the true meaning of tenacity, was when I got the opportunity to work as an administrative assistant at an accountant firm. I was a recent graduate from an community college and I knew I wanted to do more in my life ,but I wasn’t sure how or where to start . I decide to apply for multiple office jobs not expecting to get a call back, but hoping I would.
Karen’s previous work history began in the same field after college ten years ago, she was an employee for another medical coordinator doing the same kind of work she does now. As an accounting major at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, I chose to conduct my interview with an Internal Revenue Service manager. The goal of this interview was to seek career advice from a seasoned professional, Mrs. Fulton, and how she became very successful in her position. I was also eager to know what skills and qualities are needed to be an accountant.
Despite being a first year student who drowned in fear of the unfamiliar and new college life experience before moving to UCSB, I would like to explore opportunities that allow me to step out of that fear into a realm of individual growth and invaluable experiences. Instead of allowing the fear of stepping into unknown territory deter me from being able to develop life skills and knowledge, I am determined to expose myself to new challenges and even making mistakes. After listening to RA Lisette’s personal growth experience as her time being a DA, I especially began to peak interest in this job because I see my time here at UCSB as an opportunity to not only broaden my academic knowledge, but more importantly, explore and develop my own character. The different skills that this job entails, such as communication, customer service, carrying out given tasks, and working as a team, will most
This past summer I interned at Community Empowerment Solutions where I worked as a consultant for entrepreneurs in Ecuador. During this internship, I managed a team of interns solving problems facing entrepreneurs which included: looking for funding, improving customer support, and refining marketing campaigns. I lead my team to create efficient solutions to these problems while taking into consideration obstacles like limited internet connection, illiteracy, low-income, cultural and language barriers. Inspired by the impact students could make in Latin America, a group of interns and I formed Pakta Consulting; a pro-bon consulting group that seeks to match college students to Latin American entrepreneurs. In Pakta, I also manage a team of consultants to solve problems that entrepreneurs bring to us. In conjunction with this, I serve as Vice President where I manage Pakta’s growth, overlook other teams, and recruit both consultants and clients. These experiences have prepared me for an internship with McKinsey where I hope to continue to grow and
The interviewer desires to initially intern as a magazine journalist, and later branch off as editor-in-chief of her own magazine brand.
Who would have thought that a sudden mandatory security lockdown at my summer internship at the Depositary Trust & Clearing Corporation would be the answer to all of my career questions. Growing up with four older sisters who are all extremely successful and happy in their chosen careers, I was eager to start finding my niche and my purpose. I had a thirst for knowledge and understanding of the world outside of my little town in Staten Island. This eagerness helped me land my first real-world learning experience. I was thirteen years taking classes at a performing arts school in New York City and the manager of the school asked if I would like to shadow and assist the marketing manager of the school to gain an understanding of the Marketing industry. This opened my eyes to a different field and I was eager and ready to learn more. For weeks I applied online to several different companies seeking internships. I was surprised to receive an interview request from Downtown Magazine. I was shaking and petrified as I made my way to the offices of Downtown Magazine but the CEO loved me and offered me the position immediately after my interview. To her surprise, when she asked
