I’ve had an interesting nine weeks in Career Exploration. I learned an abundant amount of different skills, personality types, and careers. The assessments informed me more about myself and what group I am statistically. I also learned that the Holland Codes helped me understand my personality types and needs. Also, being in the class helped me realize that I haven’t met all my needs. The assessments have somewhat helped me a lot in uncovering more of who I am as a person and student. I know now that more people may share identical personalities as others. I’m assure of the ideal personality that a person in my career should have. I’ve learned to be more social with other peers so more things can get accomplished. I enjoyed discussing and
Within society, there are many occupations to explore and chose. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) results showed that my personal career strengths fall under the area of teaching and counseling. Currently, as a school counselor for a high school in Duncanville, Texas, a suburb outside of Dallas, I find the results of the assessment to be very accurate. Making the decision to become a counselor is a rewarding and exciting career choice. In the world of counsling, there are many individuals who place emphasis on not just basic implications, but also on theoretical studies that usually are a part of
When I was young I wanted to become a teacher; however, that all changed throughout the years. What had motivated me to become a teacher was all the supplies they had like the whiteboards, the markers, and the construction paper. It seemed fun and interesting to me to have all the supplies. I no longer wish to become a teacher. As I grew older I realized that I wanted to do something that has me going to places, seeing new things, speaking with diverse individuals, and for that reason I chose to be involved in Real estate.
The career I chose to undertake as my profession is that of a mechanical engineer. Why do I want to become a mechanical engineer? Well, for starters, I would be able to design, build and possibly repair many various machines and other technologies that are complex. These technologies can range from being already in use on a global scale to new, futuristic designs that are highly technical. Also, this career includes being a sort of jack-of-all-trades, where I would possess knowledge in mathematics, physics, etc. Finally, this career offers me the chance to expand outside my immediate area since mechanical engineers are well desired around the globe as well.
“I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile” (Walter Chrysler). Deciding on what one wants to be in life can prove to be a demanding task. There are so many, yet limited, different opportunities in the world to have an excellent career and make a decent living while doing something one loves. It is limited because there are only a few specific career paths that someone could take to make good money. It is very difficult to make a fulfilling living being a garbage man. There are many different opportunities because, within these specific careers, there are usually various paths to take. Someone who has dreams to be a
The theoretical career development framework that I chose to assist in Catherine’s career counseling process is Donald Super’s counseling theory. I decided to chose this particular career development framework because I thought it would be the most effective and appropriate to use with the client. The client is thirty-seven years of age and is dealing with a lot on her plate. Equally important, people grow and change throughout their lives and this theory respects that.
Through my research I have found multiple jobs that interest me, but there are two that stick out the most: Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist and Psychiatric Technician. Before researching, I had no idea about these jobs, but now I know good deal about them. After researching, I found out in what settings people in these positions work, how much they make on average annually, what their job entitles, what the education requirements are, what the growth rates for these occupations are. The jobs’ settings are very similar, but their salaries and duties are very different. I was able to find that if one just looks at the average, annual wage for each occupation, Psychiatric Technicians make about $28,000 while Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialists make about $34,000. The growth rate for Rehabilitation Counselors, in general, is faster than Psychiatric Technicians, but only by four percent. The overall tasks of each occupation, however, differ greatly from each other.
1.What is one short term goal you have on your agenda to achieve in the next couple of weeks to a month?
Nursing is an important scientific career as it benefits society, by utilising their knowledge in medicine. Nursing is seen as an important profession for it makes the health field function properly through assisting other medical staff such as doctors. They help doctors by caring, cleaning and distributing medications to their patients. Nurses contribute to society by providing help to individuals in need and they work as part of a team of professional and medical staff that promotes and restores patients’ health. Nursing jobs include treating patients who are sick and injured, offering supports to patients and their families and taking care of paperwork. An important scientific career is nursing as it provides patients with medical
What is the importance of goals? Do goals help you plan out your future? Or possibly give you something to work for? To me goals provide a map of what I want to do, how I’m going to do it, and why I want to do it. Goals also provide a sense of accomplishment when you finally get to finish whatever you’ve been working towards. The need for goals in life is clear, because without goals, we wouldn’t get much done. Simply because of the fact that there wouldn’t be anything to work towards, and no structure to our future. One of my most important goals is to graduate college, to get a career in psychology. This goal is extremely important to me because of the fact that not many people in my family have even finished high school.
Some of my interests include flying and gaming. Two of my aptitudes are computers and technical engineering. Two skills I have are figuring how things work and exploring things I have not done before. Some of the good qualities I have are being kind-hearted, patient and having a good sense of humor.
I have been working on my academic career for many years now. I am currently in my third year of community college, and have come across multiple teachers who have helped and inspired me in many ways. A teacher not only teaches the content of their course, but life skills as well. They are kind, caring, considerate, and understanding of their students. A teacher who goes above and beyond for their students is one that will make a difference. One teacher who I believe has made all the difference to me, was my accounting professor.
Throughout my life, I always wondered what my profession would be when I grew up. My first choice was to be a nurse because I love to help people and make sure that they are well taken care of. When I reached high school, my thoughts about nursing tapered off because other careers interested me even more, such as becoming a lawyer. As I began researching more and more about lawyers, I talked to my work based learning teacher at school, and she recommended a part time job at a law firm. I began calling around, and entering my senior year of high school, I received my first job at a law firm. The first days of working at the law firm, I was extremely excited because I thought that I would be one step closer to reaching my goals as an attorney. I had the privilege of seeing what the attorneys did throughout the day, however as my experience in the firm progressed, my interest in becoming an attorney dwindled. I then realized I was back to square one and was extremely discouraged, because I did not know what I wanted to do with my life.
For my Career Exploration Project, I chose the career of legal secretary. In the practice of law, a legal secretary is person who works in the legal profession, typically assisting lawyers. I chose legal secretary, because I have been exposed and aware of this profession for a while. My mother has been involved in the legal secretarial field of work for about two and a half years now. Seeing lawyers and their assistants on television first interested me in the career, but my mother being a legal secretary furthered my interest. My mother took me to her place of business a few times. I wasn’t able to see lawyers in full action, but I got to see my mom and some other legal secretaries in meetings and conferences.
The Career Pathing project consists of creating and distributing a survey that identifies common core competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities) that all SFSU faculty and staff employees must possess. The survey will be distributed to a focus group, which represents 150 individuals who are either faculty, staff, or students across SFSU.
Career practicum has to be the most beneficial class i've taken in high school. We've done so much in class talking about how to get jobs, customer management, and most important how to pay taxes. But getting to go to the fire department has to be the best thing, at the fire department i have been able to decide what i'm going to do with my life. I would however only suggest this job site for student that have a drive to work and will do anything it takes to become a firefighter/ first responder. There is a lot of down time at the fire department, so i'll take advantage of that to get school work done or read FFA (firefighter association) textbooks so i'll be better prepared for when i go to tech school. Over all this class and my job site
