Reflection 1. What was the biggest challenge faced by your team while using the design process, and why was this a challenge? (100 words) The biggest challenge faced was the lack of direct contact with real world patients and clinicians, which led to an inability to effectively empathise with patients and their needs; a large portion of the design process and the creation of ideas required this empathise stage to understand the patient's needs, which could not be fully grasped due to this constraint. This also led to a slight lack of understanding of the challenges that VAD patients might face. This challenge was mostly remedied by going through VAD online forums. As mentioned before, the lack of contact with patients and clinicians led to a lack of first-hand understanding of the problems faced by LVAD patients, which would have been remedied by speaking to the patients and clinicians. However, due to the time constraints and layout of this assignment we alternately used the design tools provided to empathise with patients. We would also have not evaluated the prototype, design and testing of the final product in such depth, but rather, would have concentrated on just the solution. The step-wise rigidity and tools required to be utilised for this design project would have been replaced with more free-flowing thought and mind maps. After going through the design steps set out, we believe that a more comprehensive and all encompassing final designed was reached. 3. Do you think that design will be of value to the medical profession in the future? If so, why? (200 words) Yes it will. Design is an integral part of technology to enable it to be efficient and comfortable for the patient. Medical technology would not exist without the creativity required to come up with new ideas for advancements in technology. Furthermore, with the fast moving pace of technology, design is imperative to continue improving
