It was a spur of the moment decision. While Chris Kyle was on over watch with his sniper rifle, he watched a woman hand off what looked to be a Russian hand grenade to her son. The boy took the grenade and began sprinting towards the group of marines putting all of their lives in jeopardy. Chris new exactly the capability of the grenade. Instantly, his years of training to become a Navy SEAL kicked in. Chris shot the boy before he could throw the grenade. Once the grenade touched the ground it immediately exploded, shattering all of the windows and doors of the nearest buildings. This is just one of the many decisions Chris Kyle was forced to make in his four deployments in Iraq. Chris joined the SEALs after hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center in an act of terrorism. Chris is a patriot who was …show more content…
Throughout the events of this autobiography, it is clear that Chris attains many traits that resemble that of my own. One way that I feel connected to Chris is that we both aspire to be as great as one can possibly be at something. In Chris’s life, he wanted to become the greatest sniper in American history. Although Chris does not claim to be the greatest sniper in American history, he is awarded with the most kills in American military history. I believe in a similar way, I spend countless hours a week training to become the best hockey player I can be. Whether it is shooting pucks, or running to increase stamina, or stretching to reduce injury, we both have a similar mindset. Although hockey and war are two drastic differences we both aspire to become great. Another similarity between Chris and I is that we are both very investigative. Chris observes details very closely and pays attention to change. An example of Chris being very investigative or analytical is when he saw a tarp on a rooftop move while on over watch. It was an unusually calm day, and there was no wind or breeze the entire day. So when
Chris Kyle is a 38 year-old, combat veteran, who served 10 years in the United States Navy. Chris is a Caucasian male, who presents with a moderate religious background. He ‘s currently married to his wife Taya, and has one son. Chris was born in Texas, in where he was raised by both of his parents along with his younger brother. His childhood can be described as a loving, nurturing environment with a secure attachment but also with a strict disciplinary component, in where early on Chris was taught the concept of being a Sheepdog, amongst sheep. This concept can be viewed as a precursor to the role he has adopted along his experience in the military. Chris’s highest level of education comes through a high school diploma, but is supplemented by the training and grooming he received as a special forces operator. Through this training, he was usually required to be in top physical shape and work with a good sense of executive functioning.
U.S. Navy SEAL ,Chris Kyle was just the average die hard Texan. He aspired to become a cowboy, but it wasn’t working out in his favor. After seeing the horrors of terrorism on 9/11 he was ready to fight for his country and enlisted into the military. He goes on to fight in four tours and becomes the deadliest sniper in American history. After each tour, he felt that he had to go back. He had two goals that he couldn’t give up on; protecting his team and taking out the deadliest enemy sniper, Mustafa. Chris would not stop until he achieved his goals, when he finally did, he faced a new battle. He struggled with normal daily life, but even then he persevered and found a new passion to aid him. Throughout this film, Clint Eastwood portrays the theme of perseverance through the use of setting, camera angles, and the main character Chris Kyle.
In the movie, Chris Kyle comes home from a rodeo and finds his girlfriend cheating on him with another person (Eastwood). This is completely fabricated as Chris Kyle quit the Rodeo after an arm injury during high school (Duckworth). The following scene in the movie is when Chris Kyle listen to the report of the 1998 bombings of US embassies on radio which motivates Chris Kyle to enlist in the Navy (Eastwood). In reality Kyle said he always wanted to enlist in the Navy since high school (HistoryvsHollywood). Also in the movie Chris was shown be instantly accepted in the Navy Seal program. In real life, Kyle was not accepted into the Navy at first but later the Navy changed their decision and let him join where he trained for a whole year before joining the BUDS program where he began Navy Seal training (HistoryvsHollywood). The events prior to Chris Kyle becoming a Navy Seal were mostly inaccurately depicted which decreased the historical authenticity of the

The author Wes had and accomplished goals. Specific achievements he’s made include, military school, getting acknowledged for his basketball talent, and receiving the Rhodes Scholarship. It all started when his mom decided to put him in military school. It took time for Wes to accept the military ways. Later the acceptance would cause him to actually “enjoy the school”(130). He’d work his way up from plebe to “paratrooper”(130). Wes was “one of the youngest officers in the entire United States Military”(134). It was a huge, story worthy experience for Wes. His high school sports career was astonishing too, enough for “The New York Times to run a two-page article”(130) about it. Eventually, the publication of his well-doing, “attracted colleges”(130) and gave him a chance to play with “NBA members, like Kobe Bryant”(130).
The dangers frequently endured by soldiers fighting for the United States is immense. Hundreds of men and women are killed daily by terrorists. Many soldiers give up their dreams to fight for their country because they feel endangered every day by extremist groups and other terrorists. The movie American Sniper is based off of the true story of Chris Kyle and his efforts to protect his country. Throughout the movie, Chris Kyle’s struggles demonstrate that war may build courage but also leads to emotional issues.
In all his years in the military Chris served four deployments in Iraq and by his own account shot and killed 160 people, a record in U.S history. Also during his time as a Navy seal Chris met his wife Taya and they would go on to have two children together. Chris’s accuracy was feared and respected not just by his comrades but by the militants he combated. Chris Kyle received two awards of the silver star and five for bronze. Chris’s renowned prowess as a sniper, awards of heroism and acclaimed 160 kills made him famous which led to the result of his book and movie. Many of these reasons are why I chose Chris kyle for my hero essay. He was an American war hero, he put his life on the line to serve his country, and received many awards of heroism in battle. Unfortunately several years after Chris left the military in 2009 he was murdered on a gun range by a former marine who had a history of mental
Nowadays, cross-cultural communication is one of the keys to survive in this society. It plays an important role in our society. The book, A long way gone: Memoirs of a boy soldier, describes several cross cultural issues. This book is based on the true story of Ishamel Beah, who was solder in Republic of Sierra Leone. During his life time, he face a number of cultural shocks and tried to adapt each situation. Through story of his life, we can recognize some cultural differences and similarities between his central culture, Sierra Leon, and other individuals/groups. Thus, in this essay, I would like to discuss how are cultural differences and similarities between Ishamel’s culture and other cultures revealed. There are three main points; cultural differences shows cultural conflict and cultural integration, and cultural similarities reflects the Americanization.
According to the author Tim O’Brien, people tend to readily accept the ‘facts’ presented of what happened during a war. People do not consider the existence of fallacies regarding the actual stories of what happens in wars, few consider that the ‘facts’ of an incident often change through people’s words. The film ‘Saving the Private Ryan’ by Steven Spielberg features both facts and seemingness part of the war story. Since it is so difficult to fully describe a war using human language, Spielberg ended up revising his stories to make sense out of it. Spielberg included parts that did not occur or exclude parts that did occur in order to make their stories seem more credible. According
But his professional rodeo career ended abruptly with a broken arm. A few months later after he graduated college, his arm was completed healed and decided to go the military recruiting office because of his interest in protecting his country and by becoming a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations. A Navy recruiter convinced him to try, instead, for the SEALs. Initially, he was rejected because the pins in his arm, but eventually he received an invitation to the 24-week basic underwater demolition, air, land (SEAL) training (BUD/S) in Coronado, CA in 1999. After not to long, he was assigned to SEAL team #3, sniper element, platoon charlie, within the Naval Special Warfare Command, with four tours of duty, and Kyle served in many battles in the Iraq War. His first long range kill shot was taken during the initial invasion when he shot a woman carrying a hand grenade approaching a boycott of many marines. As ordered, Kyle opened fire before she could even attack. He later stated, “The women was already dead. I was making sure
Initially Kyle was interested in joining the U.S. Marine Corps special operations, but a U.S. Navy recruiter convinced him to instead try for the SEALS. He was rejected because of the pins in his arms, but he eventually received an invitation to the 24-week Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL school which he joined in 1999. The events during Chris Kyle’s first tour were mostly inaccurate. In the movie, during Chris Kyle’s Navy Seal training, Chris was drinking at a bar where he met his girlfriend and future wife Taya (Eastwood). In reality Chris met Taya in a bar while he was in Navy training (Duckworth). In the movie Chris Kyle and his girlfriend Taya were married and Chris was deployed in the same day (Eastwood). In real life, Chris Kyle and Taya get married because Chris was going to be deployed soon (Chris Kyle American Sniper). In the movie Kyle’s first tour was in 2003 in Fallujah where his first kill as a sniper happened on a little boy and then his mother (Eastwood). In reality Chris only killed the women which was still his first kill as Chris said he would never killed children (The American Sniper). In the movie, throughout the tours Kyle’s main enemy seems to be an enemy sniper by the name of Mustafa. Mustafa is a sniper who kills some of Kyle’s friends and is a constant enemy of Kyle’s squadron. In Chris Kyle’s autobiography, he talks about an enemy sniper by the name of Mustafa but says he never met with Mustafa himself. Mustafa in this movie was put there to be the main villain and does not have any other purpose. Mustafa never met with Kyle himself (The American Sniper). The
The long 172 days had finally passed, and the day I had been waiting for, for months, had finally come. We were in Chicago for my One Direction concert, the day couldn’t have come faster. The agonizingly slow hours that passed that day was too much to bear. Before arriving at Soldier Field, I was highly anticipating meeting one of my closest friends, Jessica, for the first time. It’s actually rather incredible to me, we first were introduced on social media, we didn’t know each other at all, all we knew was that we both loved the same band, and we were both going to the same concert. Prior to meeting for the first time, we were restricted to Skyping each other almost every other day and texting every day.
Themes and symbols are key components to writing a novel. In the novel A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah, Beah utilizes a variety of themes and symbols throughout the book some more dominant than others. Instead of using words Beah uses symbols to underscore his central theme of freedom because words just cannot explain the freedom he experienced in his life. Three symbols that he uses effectively include the guns when he realizes that even though guns are bad they can be used for good reasons, his cassettes when he realized that music means much more than just entertainment to him and lastly the moon when he realizes that the smallest things in life always guides you in the right direction.
