From a mere trickle in the highlands of Peru, the Amazon swells mightily on it’s 4000 mile

Colombia was one of the three original countries along with Ecuador and Venezuela that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830. Over the last 40 years, there has been a campaign to overthrow the government partially because of the drug trades throughout Colombia. The movement does however lack support from military and support from the necessary influences. In recent years, there have been challenges for control of the territories throughout Colombia and also for the drug trade.

The country of Colombia resides in the northwest region of South America next to the North Pacific Ocean. Colombia is a neighbor to many countries including Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and Venezuela and is considered the fourth largest country in South America. Temperatures in Colombia can vary significantly due to the difference in terrain across its geography, which ranges from 0-5,775 meters (cia.gov). The variation of geographic features makes Colombia an excellent home for many natural resources, ranging from minerals such as iron ore, nickel, gold, emeralds, and copper, to natural energy resources and fuels – specifically natural gas. Several million Afro-Colombians represent nearly 16% of the population. Over 87 indigenous ethics groups represent 1.5 percent of the country’s total population and speak by native languages

A community-oriented country that opens its arms to visitors in need. A country that has communities, that allow complete strangers to walk into their house and use their bathroom. These are some of the wonderful attributes that the beautiful country of Peru has to offer. With all these wonderful characteristics of this land comes, some unfortunate features. Peru is an impoverish land that is full of needs. Citizens struggle just to get dinner on their table each day.

A journey through the capital of Colombia is an excellent and unforgettable experience. Bogotá is the largest city of Colombia. It´s a diverse and multicultural city with wonderful green landscapes, formed by high green mountains in contrast with modern buildings and colonial old places evoking the past. First, you can hike Monserrate, a place to take good pictures and you can visit the catholic church. Besides, it’s possible to take a tour of La Candelaria. It’s in downtown and it has a beautiful classic architecture. You can walk on its little cobblestone streets and maybe buy some souvenirs. Bogotá has about 50 museums. Colombia has been struggling with internal conflict for most of its 204 year history. Since the late 1800s the main reason for conflict would be divisions between bipartisan political forces. Bloody civil wars dot the history of Colombia but perhaps the most significant period in Colombian violence would be the clash between the Colombian Liberal Party and the Colombian Conservative Party in the 1940s. Colombia and Spain are very different countries in economic, and cultural. Live in two different countries is a unique experience that opens the minds of people to have a new way of thinking and looking at things.
