In my child care setting, I work hard to provide all children with a safe and healthy learning environment. I research and follow strict standards available from the state related to preventing and reducing injury and illness, helping children feel safe, following sound nutrition and fitness practices, and creating an enriching learning environment.
It is important to ensure that we meet the need of the students on every level. One effective way to do this is to observe, assess, and record children’s efforts and progress. In this way, an educator can prepare to help a child’s progression in the class. Being able to track and refer to the progress of a child helps to ensure greater levels of success. In the end, our program is only as successful as the children in our care. Record keeping can identify areas that need improvement, and allows us to teach to their strong points.
In 1889 Jane Adams along with Ellen Gates Starr, as the pioneer or "Mother" of social work opened the doors to Chicago's Hull House, which provided social services that included: child care; education in history, music, and mathematics; a library, employment assistance; as well as many others to immigrant communities in the city (NASW 60th Anniversary Interactive Timeline, 2016). Today, the philanthropic work of two women has become the field of social work, with thousands of professional social workers continuing the work they started. Like everything else, the field of social work has evolved over the years to to become a diverse and expanding field. According to the text “Social Work Values and Ethics” by Fredrick G. Reamer (2013), “at its infancy in the late
Many assessment tools and interviewing skills are available to the clinical social worker within a mental health setting. This paper will examine one such assessment tool, the competency based assessment, and its applicability in a mental health setting. A comparison will be made between this advanced assessment method and a generalist social work assessment. Interviewing people who have mental health concerns can offer challenges for clinical social workers. Several interviewing techniques that can help with some of these challenges will be outlined.
It is important to maintain a safe environment for students inside and outside of the classroom. My goal is to make sure that the children understand what being safe is. I make sure that they know how to play safe. All of the toys and the materials that the children use are safe. I make sure that there are no broken toys that may harm them around. The children along with me create the class rules. I make sure that the outlet plugs are in place and that the cabinets are secure. The children follow the classroom rules. I make sure that I supervise the children at all times. I also make sure that I observe the areas where they play, work, and eat. I make sure that shoes are tied. I make sure that

Providing physical and emotional security for each child and helping each child to know, accept, and take pride in him or herself while developing a sense of independence is my responsibility as a child caregiver. Part of my responsibility is treating each child as an individual and promoting their own strengths and needs as they grow. To encourage growth in each of these areas I use books, pictures, stories, and discussions to help children identify with positive events and experiences in their lives. I help to ensure each of my children feel love, affection, and security through consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement.
Overall after reading the text InternQube: Professional Skills for the Workplace, this text was very useful as well as interesting. I was able to get a better understanding on what type of mindset I should have going into the workplace every day. This includes daily goals and routines, the way I should professional dress, how I should conduct myself on a professional level in front of people of higher status. InternQube was excellent for my first couple weeks at my internship Stenton Family Manor. First I was able to write up daily work objectives to what I needed to get done for the day. These objectives consist of work practices that would better help me in my field of management. I develop questions for myself such as, what does it take
Christiana was in a good mood when the QP met with her for a session.
To provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment that is safe, healthy, respectful and supportive of children and families. For the learning environment to be safe, I ensure that I always check identification, and have parents notify me whenever someone new to the list will be picking up. I always bring my roster with me to ensure I have all my children with me. I do a roll call every time we get to a new area after traveling anywhere away from our room, and before leaving the room. Another way that I make the learning environment safe is by covering all the outlets in the room, and making sure sharp or dangerous objects are put away, and out of the children’s reach. I put cleaning supplies and other chemicals in high locked cabinets.
I greet my student’s families in a polite and respectful manner during each encounter. Respect of religious and cultural backgrounds, family structure, and parenting styles is vital to the foundation of a successful relationship. This is done by having pictures and books representing diverse religions, cultures, and family dynamics in the classroom. Religious holidays are not celebrated in my classroom. For instance, instead of Christmas, we celebrate Winter Festival and talk about snowflakes. I celebrate different cultures monthly to not only expose the children to a new culture, but to also show how each child is special. Monthly I send home a family poster for homework with different themes to promote inclusivity not only for the student but also for the families. The posters are then hung on the wall. Discussions about different family structures is encouraged as well and supported with books such as “The Family Book “by Todd Parr.
Adam’s mother informed the QP, “When Adam is one on one with one of us he is fine there is no attitude he is happy and talkative, but when we are together talking to him he gets defensive, displays an attitude, and becomes disrespectful.”
In reviewing this learners track 1 residency action plan, goals for skill development that were discussed at the end of track 1 included practicing and using observation, open-ended questions, and silence. This learner practiced these skills among other skills between track 1 and track 2 by using them at work and with family members. These skills were also used in everyday conversations as well as in role-plays with family members. In addition, a professional development goals was to join the American School Counselor Association. This goal was completed and opportunities for professional development continues through the use of their website and magazine. In the area of personal development the goal was to take more personal time and spend more time with family. This goal was also accomplished through prioritizing and scheduling.
These are the skills and competencies I have learned through my studies at Walden University. Kaslow, Grus, Campbell, & Fouad, et al. (2009) stated professionalism comes from my respect for those who need help. Integrity can be built with confidence in the therapist. Attitudes are charitable, polite, caring emotions toward others that fuel my motivation toward helping. This concern welfare of others comes from my religious and personal experiences as a child and young adult.
Core competencies are the most significant value creating skills within a company and key areas of expertise that are distinctive to a company and critical to the company's long-term growth. Core competencies are the pieces that a company is superior than its competitors in the critical, central areas of the company where the most value is added to its products. These areas of expertise may be in any area from product development to employee dedication. A competence which is central to business's operations but which is not exceptional in some way is not considered as a core competence, as it will not generate a differentiated advantage over rival businesses. It follows from the concept of core competencies; resources that are
