Conventional cars and Hybrid electric cars: How they impact on Environment Climate change occurs mainly because of human activities, such as harvesting resources, industrialization, and technological invention, among other factors. One of the main reasons climate change has occurred in the last a few decades is because conventional cars which made their first appearance in 1886, have become increasingly popular. Although, conventional cars are more efficient and less expensive than hybrid cars, hybrid cars help reduce the negative impact on the environment more than conventional cars. A Hybrid car has disadvantages due to the battery and power of the engine, which has to improve over time, which makes people less likely to buy hybrid cars over conventional cars in the present such as gas and diesel. Even though both conventional and electric cars have negative impact on the environment, they have different scale of impact on the environment. By looking at how each system of both types of cars work, what the effect on fuel consumption rate and greenhouse gas emissions are, and what the disadvantages of electric cars are compared to conventional cars, hybrid electric cars are less likely to negatively impact on the environment more than conventional cars. System of how conventional cars work Conventional cars use internal combustion engines to generate power to put the car into motion. All conventional cars use what is called a “four-stroke combustion cycle” which are “intake
Gas powered cars are one of the major causes of global warming , and air pollution. Gas powered cars are able to create a lot of carbon dioxide that harm the environment. These cars can also spill certain fluids that can harm the environment. Some of these fluids are motor-oil, gasoline and brake fluid. These fluids can harm humans as well as animals, and can pollute our water systems. Electric cars on the other hand are better for the environment. They use half the energy of a gas powered car, so they don’t cause as much pollution in the air. They also use cleaner energy; electricity, which doesn’t harm the environment as much as
In theory, electric cars are not truly zero emissions because of the pollution that comes from the electricity generation. However, according to the article “Energy, Technology, Policy”, Kelly Rodgers talks about a few reasons why electric cars are better than gas powered. She claims that, “An electric car reduces 35-60% less carbon dioxide emission from electricity than the CO2 pollution from the gasoline of a conventional car with an internal combustion engine. The Department of Energy estimates that a gasoline car emits 75 lbs. of CO2 during a 100-mile trip, in comparison to 32 lbs. of CO2 emissions from a power plant to generate enough electricity to power an electric car for the same 100 miles.” In some areas, where they rely largely on renewable power such as solar, wind or hydro, the emissions are even further less for electric cars. As soon as we turn the key to our car, different types of gasses and particles pollute our air that create detrimental effects on the environment. One of the most deadliest to our ozone layer would be carbon dioxide. According to the environmental protection agency, carbon dioxide enters
The cars around the world produce more that half of our world's carbon dioxide (Cerovsky). People move over to driving electric cars because the produce very little amounts of carbon dioxide or even no carbon dioxide (Cerovsky). Electric vehicles are are a great way to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and also to reduce the nation's fuel supply need for transportation (Stephan). “The transportation sector is a substantial contributor to carbon dioxide emissions (20%-25% share), with its emissions growing faster than any other energy-using sector” (Avci). Since electric cars are only run off power produced by there battery the vehicle does not need any oils or fuels therefore there are no oils or fuels to burn and create pollution that comes out of the vehicle therefore there is no carbon dioxide being released into the air from the vehicle.
There has been lots of controversy on whether hybrid vehicles are environmentally better than gas vehicles. In this new age of technology and vast growth of human population, there would have to be ways to make driving environmentally healthy considering the fact that millions of people drive(Goffman, “Electric Car Batteries Could Provide Energy for the Smart Grid”). Hybrid cars use clean electric , while gas powered cars use harmful polluting fossil fuels. For the most part, to make sure that this world becomes cleaner, hybrid cars will definitely need to be used in the future. Hybrid cars are environmentally better than gas cars.
Climate change and transportation play a big role and it is important to be concerned for our future generations. The use of gasoline cars is a major producer in carbon dioxide emissions, although they are not entirely responsible for it—they play a role in it. Other form of transportations like buses and taxis also contribute to carbon dioxide emissions. The total amount of carbon dioxide emissions from an average car is seventy six percent which comes from usage of a vehicle containing gasoline. Efficiency has increased by twenty percent in regards to electric motors, especially when it comes to their wheels using no power when the car is at rest. Car ownership will increase and with this, improvements in technology could be a vital
Green cars such as hybrid cars and electric cars are what most of people are familiar with when they talk about green cars. These cars are considered to be more environmentally friendly cars as they are supposed to cause less harm to the environment than conventional cars. They are made to reduce environmental damage caused by conventional cars which uses an internal combustion engine to burn fuel. They are also thought to be more advantageous than conventional cars since the cost of gas can be avoided and a tax-deduction id offered from the government. However, it is surprising that green cars are not really green. It is true that green cars do not emit greenhouse gases, but what we failed to see is that how these cars, especially electric vehicles and their battery, are manufactured and how the electricity which powers them is generated. Putting that in consideration, green cars not completely emission- free and they can possibly have an even greater negative impact on the
“Hybrid” cars can be good for the environment because they are an “alternative, being used to decrease the emissions of vehicles and to decrease the amount of fossils being used” (Kukreja). “Hybrids also cost less to operate because of fuel usage” (Kukreja). Hybrids benefit from using less fuel by saving money and by stopping carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and particulate matter from entering the environment. Less fossil fuels being used means less money spent on fuel! Hybrid cars have an electric motor that runs the transmission, so the gasoline engine never directly powers the car. Even though hybrid cars take gas, the car uses nowhere as much as an actual gasoline powered car.
“ The time is right for electric cars - in fact the time is critical” (Carlos Ghoson). There is really no specific time or place for when the electric car was first invented. Hungary, the Netherlands, and the United States all were toying around with the idea of the electric car. Until the 19th century the inventors built some of the first electric cars. Electric cars were quite and easy, especially for women. They didn’t give off a pollutant smell that other non electric cars give off. Although, automakers were modifying and fixing the problems with gasoline powered cars because there was a problem with what was giving off. Electric cars were able to go up to 60 miles per hour, just like the regular gasoline powered vehicle. Electric cars
The hybrid car technology not only benefits the driver but also the entire society and the environment due to the less production of greenhouse gas. The advantages of the hybrid car are many-sided since it supplies economical and technical benefits, such as the country will have benefits from the gasoline saving because this can keep the gasoline price in a normal range which can further affect the economy. Hybrid cars are already being sold and being used on the roads in many countries. Because the proper safety instructions are provided to owners are also available regarding safety concerns, which can reduce the possibilities of damaging the car by nonstandard driving. Generally, the owners of the hybrid car are very satisfied with the new experience of technology. This is also a great way to help people to develop environmental awareness.
Before hybrid cars there were only gas and diesel vehicles on the road, but just as the times move forward, so has the Cas industry. The difference between gas and hybrid cars is the way the engine functions. A hybrid car combines a gasoline-powered engine with an electric motor. a gas powered vehicle gets its power from the engine only. In a hybrid car, it has a unique system of specs such as electronic and mechanical controls the engine and motor to obtain the best effectively for different driving conditions.
Hybrid cars are better than traditional cars because they more efficient. Automotive technicians explains that hybrid cars are getting a minimum of energy to be used on them. John Kelly says “This teamwork results in hybrids that get close to 50 miles per gallon, a 25-percent improvement over gasoline-only vehicles.” Basically, John Kelly is saying hybrid cars get up to 50 miles per gallon, they increased the amount of regular cars. This means they use less in gas at low speeds and at high speeds than the engine kicks in and gives that satisfy the customer needs for speed. Automotive technicians indicates that when the car is not moving then the gasoline engine shuts off to not waste gas. John Kelly says “The battery provides energy for the
This report explains how advantageous a hybrid car is and why conventional car should be replaced by hybrid car. Hybrid car is getting more popular and marketable because of its advantages. In essence, the report touches on the benefits of owning a hybrid car and some possible effects. The problems that arisen are environmental problems which catch the whole world’s attention, the prices and fuel are hiking up and the fuels are limited in supply. Therefore, hybrid cars are here to help people to overcome the problems. They are definitely the best solution to replace conventional cars because they are more advantageous than conventional cars. Hybrid cars have the ability to save fuel which ultimately reduces the dependence on
Conventional cars use internal combustion engines to generate power to put the car into motion. All conventional cars use what is called a “four-stroke combustion cycle” which are “intake stroke, compression stroke combustion stroke, and exhaust stroke” to
The electric car, once the “zero-emissions” darling of environmentalists, is sometimes maligned as an “emissions-elsewhere” vehicle, since the electricity to charge its batteries must be generated in electrical generation plants that produce emissions. This is a reasonable point, but we must then ask how much pollution an electric car produces per mile – accounting for all emissions, starting from the gas or oil well where the source fuel is extracted, all the way to the final consumption of electricity by the car’s motor. When we work through the numbers, we find that the electric car is significantly more efficient
These cars operate from a rechargeable battery and gasoline. The engines are smaller so that they will be able to accommodate the 99% of time when the car is not going uphill or accelerating quickly. The battery is used to give extra acceleration power if needed. When the car is stopped, hybrid gasoline motors can shut off and run off their electric motor and battery. These cars are aerodynamic and the tires are often stiffer and inflated higher to reduce dragging.
