I agree, staff being held accountable for behaviors toward inmates is good because it reduces abuse towards inmates. Administrators being held accountable for their staff is necessary because they are in charge of their work group but to penalize the administrator for the staff’s mistake I don’t agree with. I believe the person that did wrong should be penalized although that administrator may become harsher on the policies imposed to reduce the chances of a mistake to reoccur in the future.
My experience working in a prison as a Correctional Officer is one that I will never forget and that I kind of miss. When I started out on my own in my own pod I would size the inmates up, and they would size me up. I would quickly learn that prison was operated like a street gang. When the gang bosses, also known as OG’s (original gangsters) would take a shower, they had bodyguards from their gang or a sister gang guard the shower door for them while they shower. They were treated like VIP’s. As officers, we did not allow this to happen, so therefore we had to stop them from doing this. One method we used was pod lockdown. If they were scared to shower without a bodyguard, then we locked down the entire pod and told them they all will be escorted to the showers. Since they paid their bodyguards in soups, we would tell them that it would cost them their chow. Now we didn’t take their chow away, we just delayed their chow time some. We also found that

Management Style: Academic, prison staff and administration are there to teach and guide inmates on the skills and resources needed to reintegrate into society. It is up to the inmate to take advantage of services and programs offered. Inmates are allowed to take an active role in the decision making process, and are encouraged to question processes and procedures. Inmates openly and freely express their opinions.
Governor Wilma James’ state is facing severe budget cuts due to economic struggles and drops in tax revenues. The Department of Revenue had informed the governor that she must find ways to reduce the budget by $6 billion. There are several areas which the governor acknowledged as fixed and cannot be touched such as, health care and pension payments. Several proposals were brought to the governor’s attention and the one that stands out the most were the prison system. After conversing with the correctional commissioner, the governor decided to order an early release of inmates whose been charged with drug related crimes. Governor James believes that her action will reduce the state’s budget immensely; however, another problem that may transpire, is the rise of drug related criminal activities occurring all across the state. This essay will briefly highlight the contexts of prison labor and work release programs, and how it would be a better alternative as compared to the early releasing of felons incarcerated for drug related crimes.
Even though prisoners are incarcerated, they still are entitled to certain rights. There is a lot of debate about which rights prisoners should have because they can’t have too much freedom, and they also can’t have too little freedom. If inmates have much freedom, chaos would reign over the facility. No inmate would learn to truly change their ways and fit back into the community successfully. If too little freedom is given, inmates would be neglected and treated like animals. The perfect balance is needed to achieve a functional correctional facility.

A situation at Corcoran State Prison was challenged with a situation wherein dual obligations conflicted. Corcoran State Prison became the center of a serious ethical scandal that consisted of illegality, injustice, endangerment, corruption, and conspiracy. The three health officials will also be required to critique the social worker's form of being an assistance to the top three health care officials in the program as well as the patients who are receiving treatment. With the social workers being trained by the top three health care officials. The social workers in the facility will be taught to have passion for the rehabilitation of the inmates and are strongly encouraged to have a positive influence on the inmates as they help the mentally ill inmates cope with their internal issues. Social workers will be required to train the correctional officers as to recognizing any suspicious actions. With the increasing numbers, and the reductions in the prison budget, means the staff to prisoner ratio will continue to worsen. With this means that the supervision of prisoners will be less available which will reduce time out of cells and time in classes working towards rehabilitation. This also leads on to another problem within staff in prisons, in terms of their relation with the home office. The more prisoners coming into prisons increases the workload for the staff, this is without the relief of additional staff being employed. Staff unrest can lead to industrial action, which will lead to the breakdown of the prison service.
