Crisis in America

Each year, more than 600,000 teens become pregnant, and 3 in 10 will become pregnant before they reach age 20 (Secure et al., 2015). Rates are higher among black and Hispanic teens, with 4 in 10 becoming pregnant by 20 years of age, compared with 2 in 10 white teens (Secure et al., 2015). Even though over time the overall rate of teen pregnancy has decreased, it’s still very high and has a large impact on the teen parents as well as the families.

Over the last few decades the rates in teen pregnancy have been a debate; did they rise over the past few years or did they actually decline? Contrary to some doctors and politicians the numbers associated with teen pregnancy have decline over the last couple of years. Although there are still people out there who believe this to be an issue it’s made more of an issue than it actually is. The ads and commercials are set out to scare teen-agers into believing that were at an all time high for this issue, but realistically its actually the exact opposite. Teen pregnancy rates haven’t dropped on there over the course of the years. There are a few major factors that have contributed a great deal to this change. Those changes include but are not limited to: more resources being available to these teenagers to prevent themselves from becoming pregnant, society is more open to talking about this issue as well as the religion and culture change aspect of families today. Despite the beliefs of others, teen pregnancy rates are at an all time low for the first time in decades.

Although popular opinion sometimes indicates otherwise, according to a statistical analysis from the US Department of Health and Services (2014), teen pregnancy rates have been steadily declining for the past twenty years. In America, most teenagers are not yet fully independent

The period from 1776 to 1815 witnessed the successful effort of the new United States in establishing a country. During that period the new country won its independence, constituted itself as a nation, developed a political system, expanded geographically, and defended itself from external and internal threats. There were four major crisis that the United States faced in this period are the Battle Long Island, Battle of Valley Forge, War of 1812, and the Battle of New Orleans, which I thought it was the major crisis that the United States faced.

Since the 1600’s, politics in the United States has affected education in many ways. When the pilgrims arrived in 1620, their values and ideas shaped society. Families were expected to teach their children literacy, and churches shifted from teaching religious values to teaching education. The Spanish tried to acculturate the Native Americans through schooling. In the 1700’s, people were concerned that families could not successfully teach their children so mass education became the solution. The national crisis of attacks and foreign conspiracies also turned to education so America could stand united. In 1785, a land ordinance was passed to sell land in the Old Northwest Territory to raise money for the maintenance of public schools. Jefferson proposed an educational bill in 1779 to sort out leaders for the nation. Rush proposed a uniform educational system that would teach the same values and be available to all children. Webster’s proposal in 1790 called for universal education with grammatical reform. Because of the revolution, women were able to act politically and keep their role as a housewife. In the 1780’s and 1790’s, grammar schools started to allow girls to attend, and with the help of female seminaries, female teachers were hired and teacher training was introduced.

Over the years, the rate of adolescent pregnancy in the United States has been declining by nearly 40% since the 1990’s. (Brown, 2016) Adolescent pregnancy rates have decreased across the nation for adolescents belonging to any racial and ethnic group. (Brown, 2016) It seems that adolescents are making smarter decisions considering that there is 77% decline in pregnancy risk. Adolescent pregnancy risk is positively correlated with greater use of condoms by 58% and birth control methods by 39%.

The Federalists believed these two issues were essential in maintaining a country's livelihood. They believed a country could not survive without the power to tax or a standing army to defend against encroaching European powers who were watching and waiting for the newly founded United States of America to fail. America was in crisis during this critical period. They had no idea or a reference to turn to. The "Critical Period" meaning when America was new, struggling, and trying to be a super power to be taken as a potential threat against the European super powers of that day and age.

There has been an a crisis that has been happening in Syria for awhile now. This conflict has been impacting a lot of people in their community and those that are out of the county. This includes the United States as an example. It was instructed and formally written that the higher authorities at the White House are being demanded to take in more refugees into the States. Along with, it 's been shown that we have been taking more refugees over the period of time since this first had started.

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope” (Annan). In our world today, literacy has become an imperative driving force in determining the level of success and adaptability of a child to a nation. It is a step in the right direction towards tapping into the endless opportunities and potentials that lay beneath the surface. And research has it that a country economic standing relies heavily on its literacy rate and vice versa, but one country that has proved that wrong is Cuba. Although Cuba currently holds a reputable global standing as one of the best educational systems in the world, this didn 't come about without its fair share of struggles resulting from its diplomatic crisis with the United States. The US-Cuba relations is one that statistically should have resulted in the collapse of the Cuban social and economic systems unless resolved, but notwithstanding they maintained independence from the influences of tyrannical governments and it has provided its people and the world with the ability to recognize the importance of literacy and education in the advancement of a country 's economy.

Allowing teenagers to get contraceptives without parents’ permission encourages them to become sexually active. Teenagers do not become sexually active because they can get contraceptives. Young woman in the U.S. Have been sexually active for at least 22 months before they visit a family planning provider. 47 percent sexually active teenage girls said they would not get health services from clinics if they could not get contraceptives without parent’s permission. Teenage girls have the highest reported rates of chlamydia and other diseases. Close to 900,000 teenagers get pregnant each year. Four out of ten girls get pregnant at least once before they turn twenty. Teenage girls that do not use contraception has a 90 percent chance of getting pregnant within a year.

While parents would like their children to wait as long as possible to begin having sex, the reality is that teens are having sex much younger than many parents think. Some teens, or preteens, begin having sex or engaging in sexual behavior in junior high. By the time they are seniors in high school, an estimated 65 percent of teens have had sex, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2007. (Dawn, 2009). Unfortunately, a percentage of those teens will become pregnant. After more than a decade and a half of decline (a 27 percent drop from 1991 to 2000), teen birth rates rose again in 2006, which was the last year for which data are available. It is still unclear on what caused teen birth rates to rise again, with supporters of abstinence-only sex education programs and contraception-based programs each blaming the other side for the increase. However, a 2007 study in the Journal of American Public Health attributed the trend in decreasing pregnancy rates to improved contraception use among teens during that time. (Anderson Orr, 2009).

Statistics from recent studies suggest that only 13% of U.S. teens have ever had sex by the age of 15. But by the age of 19, seven in ten teens of both sexes have had sex. Between 1995 and 2006-2008, the percentage of teens aged 15-17 who had ever engaged in sexual intercourse declined from 38% to 28%. Among teens aged 18-19, it declined from 68% in 1995 to 60% in 2006-2008. Teen pregnancy is an epidemic that has swept our nation for many years. It can alter the lives of teenagers in extreme measures. It is almost normal to see a teenager with a baby in today’s society. Getting pregnant while you’re a teen will definitely cause you to have to change your life style to accompany a child. This could mean not going to school or potentially dropping out of school permanently. Teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the education of the teenager because it will force them to be committed full time to the concerns and needs of the child.

Teen pregnancy is a very controversial social issue and the vast majority of Americans consider the outrageous rate of teen pregnancies a severe issue, certainly a problematic occurrence that is believed to be a moral decline in our country. Teenagers are physiologically capable of reproducing but not emotionally or financially prepared to be parents at such a tender age. Through various research studies a plethora of determinants has pin pointed teens unprecedented pregnancies. One cause of this problem is the apparent indication of social separation or disadvantage. Within this issue you would find poverty, single parent households, educational disadvantages on the parents behalf, a lack family/parental support, and unemployment. A child’s educational performance, inappropriate sexual acts, and inferior apprehensions about their futures play a vital role in teen pregnancies as well. Amongst the listed disadvantages the three that take precedent are lacks of family communication, sexual abuse, and poverty. Furthermore, teen mothers do not fit the ideal ideology of the normative scheduling of motherhood, therefore, ultimately resulting in negative consequences for them and society. What needs to be understood is, as to why the numbers of teens are becoming parents at such a vernal age.
