Deportation of Immigrants
Introduction
Over the last quarter of a decade, illegal immigration and enforcement have dominated mainstream policy making (Meisnner, Kerwin, Chishti & Bergeron, 2013). There has been a lot of public debate too, on whether or not the successive governments of the US have been able to effectively address illegal immigration and its enforcement thereof. However, as Meisnner et al. (2013) state, in the wake of the terror attacks of 2001, a paradigm shift appears to have been established, with the enforcement of illegal immigration taking a de facto stance. As such, as Dreby (2012) intimates, the number of immigrants who have been deported or removed from the US since 2001 has risen from 190, 000 to close to 400, 000. Considering the fact that there are more than 11 million illegal immigrants living in America, deportation on such a large scale without a doubt will result in a continuous chain reaction. One such consequence, as The New York University School of Law (2012) states, is that families are inherently broken apart by the removal of a family member. Additionally, there are other psychological and psychosocial impacts on families that are far-reaching. Because of these and many other compelling factors, this paper argues that the US should work to prevent deportations, rather than enforce them.
The Process of Deportation in the US Deportation is just a part of the entire process of illegal immigration enforcement as carried out by bodies such
A common misconception is that legalizing illegal immigrants would just result in “criminals” running around the streets causing disturbances. Who is ignored is the benefit of a very specific population of Americans, the sons and daughters of illegal immigrants. American children are harmed every time one or both of their parents is deported as a result of the lack of an immigration reform. In the article, “Children of Illegal Immigrants Struggle When Parents Are Deported” Valbrun states that “the government deported more than 46,000 parents of children with U.S. citizenship in the first half of 2011, according to the ARC report.” In these conditions, jailed parents cannot fight for their children’s custody and at times lose it to the government who then puts the children out for adoption or in foster care when they already have loving parents. Properly legalizing immigrants would improve the lives of many American children and improve the American social aspects with more
The famous singer-songwriter, Conor Oberst, told huffington post, “How we treat the undocumented says a great deal about us as a people and whether or not we'll continue to fulfill the fundamental American promise of equality and opportunity for all.” According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 240,255 people were deported in the year 2016. However, this year the number of arrest have rose up to 38 percent (Gomez). The number of people being deported have been increasing every year. The reason behind the increase of number is unfair hearings and policy of deportation. The United States Immigration System should change their policies on deportation because it violates the constitutional rights and exposes the inequality towards immigrants.
Immigration has been a problem in the United Sates, since English colonists came and took over the Native Americans land. Today immigration is much worse than it was back the. President Donald Trump plans deport more than 3 million undocumented immigrants. The president's plan of mass deportation occurs, the U.S economy will be greatly affected. The deportation of illegal immigrants does not only affect the people being deported, it will negatively affect the housing market, increase government spending, and affect the amount of work in the U.S.
There has been an issue for several years in the United States, and yet it hasn’t been resolved. While the government is looking for a solution, there have been so many families that are getting separated just because they are deporting too many people. Some states that have made their own laws which are laws that are absolutely unconstitutional, such as the one from Arizona the SB-1070, which that law allows the police within that state, to stop and interrogate any person who appears to be an immigrant. They can be identified by their skin color, and their way of talking. That law is unconstitutional because the police are judging
When people hear of immigrants, the word that comes into their mind is “illegal”. This is a connotation that isn’t taken into account as there are many immigrants who have permission to live in America. America is a nation that values diversity and that is why millions of people come in on exchange visas. The article “Hundreds of Veterans Were Deported, Rights Group Says” by Miriam Jordan, explains the controversy of immigrant veterans who served in the U.S. forces being deported after committing minor crimes. I believe that this article by Miriam Jordan is a good example of technical writing because it has all three of the key elements; accessibility, usability, and relevance. With the information on veterans deportation in the article, it
Immigration has been a hot topic for not only President’s Trump first 100 days in office, but also became a hot topic during the presidential campaign leading up to the election. There are a multitude of different debates that fall under the immigration category, but an issue that should be discussed in the national discourse by engaging citizens is the legalization and granting of citizenship to undocumented immigrants living in the United States. Even though it is heavily debated, undocumented immigrants should be granted the legal right to become U.S. citizens. A poll done by CNN in March states that “71% of people believe that the government should not attempt to deport all people current living in the country illegally” (Kopan, 1) compared to only “27% that believe illegal immigrants should be deported” by the same poll. This is key in the discussion being debated that undocumented immigrants should be legal citizens of the United States.
The definition of deportation is the action of deporting a foreigner from a country however, I define it as separating a family, ruining somebody’s idea of the American Dream, and at times getting rid of the bad apples. I understand coming into this country illegally is against the law but this country was built on migration and everybody deserve the chance to a better life. While some illegal immigrants come to this country and break the law in various ways the majority come to work and give their family a better life and also contribute to the society which is why I believe it should be carefully chosen who gets deported and why.
This paper looks at the rhetorical style of three articles regarding immigration. The article have various viewpoints and each looks at different aspects of the immigration. The articles all have in depth analysis on the topic they are covering. I will look at each article by analyzing the way the article is presented. I will try not worry about the topic, but the style of the writing and tone. Each article has characteristics of audience and rhetoric which gives them a sense of credibility.
Imagine yourself being a child of an undocumented immigrant, how would you feel if you watch the Television every day, and all you see is people been deported to their countries of origin because of their illegal status? Immigration has become one of the hottest topics that everyone is talking about, to specify, undocumented immigrants has suddenly become the target towards improving the nation’s economy. However, the damage that are resulting as we impound the fear of deportation on these undocumented immigrants are been neglected. Over 11 million undocumented immigrants resides in the US, formed families and have U.S born children (Suro and Suarez-Orozco). Today, among 15 children, there is one U.S born citizen with an undocumented parent (Suro and Suarez-Orozco). These children are nurtured by illegal parents who goes through emotional distress everyday due to the difficulties they face as they watch politicians calling out on
A hardworking undocumented parent can be deported and no mercy is given to such person if they have family living in the United States. Hispanics feel as the discrimination has torn many families. It goes without saying that immigrants live in fear. Imagine a mother left to provide a family when her husband has been deported. If both parents are deported and the children are U.S. born then the children will end up in foster care. “deportations break families up and have a wider effect on the community as a whole—not just the individual and the family involved.” (worsened over the past year. With talk of major deportation it seems there has been more deportations than ever. How is this affecting the social institution of Family? Trump, a republic candidate, has bashed Mexican immigrants and embarrassed by saying Mexicans are thiefs, rapist and murders. (/www.dailykos.com) Trump is seriously disrespecting Mexican Americans and immigrants with his continuous insults. Trump wants to build a 2,000 mile border wall and force Mexico to build it. This is harmful to the ecosystem and violates the Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act. (Capps,
Immigration and deportation reformation has been one of the hot topics in the 2016 election. Many have chosen which candidate to vote for based on their point of view on immigration and deportation matters. Some supported Donald Trump because he promised to deport all illegal immigrants if he becomes president while others supported Hillary Clinton because she was against mass deportation. In most cases, mass deportation threat has been focused on illegal Mexican immigrants; being the largest group of illegal immigrants and the proximity of Mexico to the U.S. They have been labelled as criminals, rapists, and drug dealers and some have suggested that they should all the deported first. In a population of about 11.3 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., and a population of over 6 million Mexicans, it is evident that a mass deportation scheme will affect them most. However, it can also be proven that illegal Mexican immigrants contribute to the economy more than any other illegal immigrants. Providing a pathway to citizenship for law abiding illegal Mexican immigrants and deporting only treacherous ones will not only improve the U.S.’s international relationship, it will also help keep families together and keep hardworking immigrants who contribute to the country’s economy.
Tatiana Sanchez, author of “Deported Mothers Make New Lives in Tijuana”, argues that the US immigration policy is stressing the human cost of tearing families apart to a critical and desperate situation. She is a former reporter/writer of The San Diego Union-Tribune and previously an investigative reporter with The Desert Sun in Palm Springs. Her insight on the immigration dilemma between the married couple Emma Sanchez and Michael Paulsen reveals that the immigration law automatically and severely bans applicants seeking legal status yet break the immigration laws, affecting the generations after the applicant.
The use of immigration detainers — requests for jails to hold immigrants for an extra 48 hours so they can potentially be deported — has spiked in Texas since President Trump took office, according to data released last week by the research organization TRAC. Thanks to Texas’ “sanctuary cities” ban, county jails across the state are forced to comply with the growing influx of once-voluntary requests.
When I began my research on the multitude of family problems, there were millions of options to choose from but narrowing down to one topic was especially difficult. I decided to choose a topic close to home which was illegal immigrant family problems. The different obstacles illegal immigrant families face on a daily basis which is a wide range of issues from health care to deportation. The effect of deportation on the families and the support that can be found in public places like school and also the lack of support they can receive from the government. The range of articles that cover these issues is overwhelming so choosing articles was not a problem. There were the scholarly journals that covered issues immigrant families concerning
Deportation of illegal immigrants will improve the United States economy but it can affect the economy in many other instances. One important reason why Donald Trump is attempting to deport a large amount of illegal immigrants with criminal records is to help the United States economy. Yes, it can reduce the rate of crime, but not all criminals are illegal aliens. The illegal immigrant families in the United States should worry for the reason of them being deported with absolute no notice. Large amounts of businesses with illegal alien workers should really worry about this act because it can put many businesses into a employee deficit. Donald Trump put in an order to deport many illegal immigrants with a criminal record which should decrease the rate of crime in many parts of the country, yet it
