What is art? What is the difference between public and private art? What is good art? What is bad art? Is art not just art? What is art? “Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more personal than that: it’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality”(Nieters). It is the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully portrayed by words alone, like love and beauty. Because words alone are not enough, we must find some other way to show our intent. But the way that we instill in our chosen media is not in itself the art. “Art is to be found in how the media is used, the way in which the content is expressed”(Nieters). What is the difference between public and private art? Public art is available, reaching out, not confined to quiet hallway. It is seen by the many and not the few. It is the statues and designs seen by everyday people. It is the sidewalk drawings and the graffiti on the walls. Private art is viewed by select people and is stashed away is the hidden races of peoples homes. Good or bad? Good art is liked by people, bad art is not. It’s all a matter of opinion, but who should get to make that judgment? Is it the art profininatos or should it be the people who are viewing it? Art is a very broad topic.
