Reflection #4 I am doing good this week. I am keeping up with all of my assignments and class readings. I haven't had any mid terms yet, but I am using my time wisely to make sure I leave time to study for each one. I don’t know the major I want to declare yet, but I am looking at business economics. In order to declare this major I need to meet the school requirements for the School of Social Sciences with a minimum GPA of 2.0. I would need to complete 3 classes in ECON 15A, 15B, and 122A. I would also need to take one education course in either I&C Sci 31/Psych 114M or Soc Sci 3A. I am considering double majoring and possibly double minoring. I don't have a clear idea of what major I want to declare so I think double majoring will benefit
Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the
When learning information about important facts, dates, and the influential people who made up U.S. history, I do not remember learning much of anything regarding the Irish, Chinese, or Japanese. Well, except for Pearl Harbor and the U.S. retaliating against Japan by dropping atomic bombs. I definitely learned that people from around the world immigrated by boat across vast amounts of ocean for a chance to thrive in the land of freedom called America. I learned that millions of people entered through Ellis Island in the late nineteenth century, looking upon the Statue of Liberty, in hopes of finding their right to life, liberty, and happiness. I learned that the majority of these people were stricken of their identities and provided new American names that were easier to pronounce. I did not however, learn about the great discrimination and hardship that these people suffered at the hands of white Americans. The major theme presented is labor discrimination, unequal and unfair pay, long hours, and harsh working and living environments in regards to the Mexican Americans, Chinese, and Japanese. Takaki (2008) paints a vivid picture of discrimination and suffering of the people known as the “others” living and working in the multicultural “melting pot” United States, in his book A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America.
I'm doing well and I had a relaxing Thanksgiving break. I hope your break was good as well.
Week 2 has been quite overwhelming. I did not have enough time to do my reading assignments over the weekend. I normally utilize Saturday and Sunday to do my research work and reading. Unfortunately, on Saturday morning, I attended a meeting that took half of the day, when I returned home my husband informed that he had invited our friends over for dinner as they will be leaving for Melbourne the following day. My house was a mess as it hadn't been cleaned the previous weekend when we were away. Thus, my whole Saturday was wasted on doing the trivial aspects of life. I missed church on Sunday so that I can catch up on my work and everything went well thereafter. I managed to complete my tasks. I found that a lot of students were divided when it came answering the forum discussion assignment on what would happen to bond prices if terrorism ended and countries adopted free trade. What's you take on this one?
I am doing okay. It has been a roller coaster week, but it is okay.
This week, good feelings, everything that I was doing was making sense so I am only hoping that pretty soon everything will get easier. Well, that will be I the perfect world so I better keep on studying and do my best each week.
This week was not too bad in regards to any of the work I actually needed to do. There are definitely some concepts that I think I need to improve my understanding but I think that I did take away what was available from the texts we were provided.
We are on week four, time is going by fast. I Just got home and went strait to my office, I want to get the class started, I am happy about my graded test last week I did well.

I hope this e-mail finds you well. I am e-mailing because as of recent I have been carefully weighing my degree options at the Ohio State University. I recently re-discovered the fact that I could potentially pursue a double major in sociology and criminology rather than just majoring in criminology. I am very interested in pursuing a double major and I believe doing so would make myself more applicable for a variety of careers. I have looked over the double major curriculum and it appears that I could graduate early like I am able to with the criminology major (2019 rather than 2020). So, I was wondering if this would be a wise move and I was wondering if it appears that I would graduate at the same time without
Once a decision has been made, we would certainly provide detailed information regarding the next steps of the process.
Thank you Kari for getting back to me I really appreciate it, but I have one more question to ask. I've not been accepted to UW Seattle, but I was accepted to UW Bothell and was wondering if possible if there was anyway for me to to be admitted to the Informatics program if i'm attending the Bothell campus?
At the Major and Minor fair, it was packed with a lot of college students looking for an adequate major or minor, or for their last blog for their freshmen seminar class. I was both. I wanted to look for more information about the Accounting and Financing Major and find a liberal arts minor. However, did not come out as planned as I was drawn towards the Computer Information Systems Minor instead of liberal arts. After walking around the fair three times, I picked up a lot of fliers from other majors and minors. In the end, I found what i was looking for. Also there was the Baruch Mascot at the fair too, but I was not able to take a picture with
Looking back at my first semester at the university, I think how surprisingly quickly these weeks have gone by and we are nearly at the penultimate week of our learning before our winter exams start. Some of the best successes were from my group presentations, becoming a programme representative as well as my economics results.
The past two weeks of dissection have been very valuable learning opportunities and extremely enjoyable. Dr Molyneux and the demonstrators were so helpful and caring; I felt they truly made a difference to how much I understood from this dissection experience. As well as this, I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity to dissect a human body and would like to thank the individual who kindly donated their body for this purpose.
