• Describe what you did. This unit we covered more specifics about how to implement compression. As part of that, we looked at different methods that can be used and what the benefits of each type would be. For the discussion assignment, I needed to implement Heap’s Law against the output of our programming assignment from last week. We needed to not only get the outcome of implementing the function but also determine how the information we obtained from the result could be applied to our understanding of what the program performed. • Describe your reactions to what you did. I found the application of Heap’s law very interesting. My only concern was how the values we were provided were determined. I wished I had a better understanding of how to determine those so that I could …show more content…
Why was it challenging to me? This week was not too bad in regards to any of the work I actually needed to do. There are definitely some concepts that I think I need to improve my understanding but I think that I did take away what was available from the texts we were provided. • What skills and knowledge do I recognize that I am gaining? Being able to compress indexes and dictionaries and yet still use them functionally is very worthwhile. Given my own experience with information retrieval and my understanding of how internet 4.0 is developing this type of function seems like a key feature to achieving a functional system. I’m looking forward to what we are doing with our own project going forward. • What am I realizing about myself as a learner? I really like getting into the nitty-gritty of solving problems. I was happy to see that several students actually provided solutions to the problems that were identified using Heap’s law. I wish I had the time this week to have looked into it myself. I’m hoping that we might be doing some of that next week though. • In what ways am I able to apply the ideas and concepts gained to my own
That was a beautiful week, I enjoyed reading all of the materials despite my challenge about the electricity issues. I have some concerns because until now due to electricity issues I am unable to participate in the discussion forum. I posted so late in the discussion when the electricity was established I prepared my assignments, I assessed my peers, and I did not find enough time to go in the discussion forum to read and rate my fellow classmates; and I did not grade for my discussion. Then, I will strive to see how I am going to solve this problem quickly.
This week was full of topics that I had not studied before. I enjoyed learning about the Mexican American War. This is a topic I am very unfamiliar with. As a resident of Texas, I was surprised how much I did not know. I had always assumed that Mexico had a weak army so learning that they had a bigger and more powerful army was interesting. I was also unfamiliar with all the figures that played a role in the Mexican American war. I wonder if we could have a president who now who is able to keep his campaign promises now the way James K. Polk did. It was encouraging to me to see that the American soldiers acted appropriately and treated the Spanish priests that they encountered with respect and behaved well. It was fascinating to see Robert
This week has been a good one so far. I can say I feel really good about my progress and work completed. I am half way done with my curriculum map and I am starting to list resources and strategies that I am using which will add an extra component to my curriculum map. I think I started to piece together my PowerPoint presentation as well.
The chapter that we focused on this week was about substance abuse and addictive disorders. I really liked how there was a guest speaker for this topic. It made the reality of being addicted to a substance so much more real and relatable because there was a person that had actually been affected by it talking about their experience rather than just reading descriptions out of a text book. Many of the other disorders that we have learned about throughout the semester seem more relatable to me because either I have experienced some parts of them or know someone who has so it was nice to hear a firsthand experience.
This week was has been very productive for me. I’ve started to add resources and activities to my curriculum map and my research for my finding presentation is ongoing. I feel I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am aware of what I want to put in my curriculum map and things are starting to come together. I feel really good about my progress this week.
The shift in the term is here and it is time for the last quiz to be handed out and for the remainder of the chapters to be buttoned up for the end of the term so that the students can be ready for their finals. In pathophysiology for this week I had a lot of prep work to do because the goal was for me to be in the classroom teaching on my own. I recognized when I was sent on Sunday the power points that I did not have all of them, but that did not stop me from working on the ones that I had. On Monday I observed the class and helped enter grades and grade quizzes since the scanner was not working right. On Tuesday I spent some time on the power points for class on Wednesday. What I did was for those power points I took the existing ones
In conclusion, I did great in this class because I was conscious about what goal of this class. I was ready for this class since the day I registered for it, and I decided to read and follow what it mentioned in the syllabus, and to listen to my teacher. It was my responsibility to be up to date on my works and assignments even though I had another class this semester. As Jean De La Fontaine said: “slow and steady wins the race
Looking back at my first semester at the university, I think how surprisingly quickly these weeks have gone by and we are nearly at the penultimate week of our learning before our winter exams start. Some of the best successes were from my group presentations, becoming a programme representative as well as my economics results.
This week had a big focus on our prototype project because it is coming down to the final weeks of this projects before we go to Telus Spark for the celebration of learning night. So in order to prepare for this we had a grade 10 science class come and test our projects and the people form Telus spark came for a second visit. In addition to spending so much time on our prototype project, there has been a lot of focus on our core subjects; so it has definitely been a very jam packed week.
In English, I have been experiencing more homework than usual, and we are taking extremely important notes that will help me prepare from high school all the way through college. We have been taking spelling tests weekly, and it has improved my spelling dramatically, but I still need to try my best. Also, the vocab from the stories we read in the literature book has expanded my vocabulary greatly, and I will most likely continue to expand my vocabulary. So far, I am satisfied with my English grade, and home to keep it at the same grade throughout the year.
This week was very impressing and confusing to me because of the different subjects you went over. I say impressing because of the day we had to ask questions and research the questions to find the real answer. It was many questions that striked me because I never thought to ask or think about to get the real truth. It was also interesting because of the day we had to draw out pictures of the ways of knowing, I liked how everybody showed their creativity in the room. This week was also very confusing to me because of the first unit we went over called “Claims for Relativism”. I didn’t understand anything in that whole unit because it seem like it was moving from one subject to another. For example it went from talking
This week I learned some important things about how to give and receive constructive criticism. Also I learned how to find the way to handle criticism in order to improve relationships and how to give a constructive feedback when I have to criticize somebody.
This week, I started teaching the S44 reading rotation full time. I have picked up everything so far except for D.I. math and writing with a student. I think that reading went pretty well this week. Monday and Tuesday are inservice days and parent teacher conferences, so I will have time then to continue planning for the upcoming weeks in reading. This also helps, because Ms. Lantz will be there if I have questions.
The chronicle of modern data compression begins in the late 1940’s with a method de-signed by Claude Shannon and Robert Fano, logically named Shannon-Fano coding. It takes the frequencies of the symbols in a file to represent the more recurrent ones using shorter coding. This was improved upon by one of Fano’s students, David Huffman, into an optimal version, and has obsoleted Shannon-Fano coding (except for historical pur-poses).
Compression is performed by a program that uses an algorithm on how to shrink the size of the data.
