Project Plan The importance of the project plan is to outline what the project will accomplish, the time it will take, what resources, the timeframe for completion and finally a way to evaluate the success and failures of the project. According to Meredith & Shafer (2010), a project plan should focus on the following key elements: "project overview, scope, business case, milestones, resources, risk management plan and an evaluation at the conclusion of the project" (p.218). The utilization of these key elements will allow Duke Energy to properly establish a well organize project that has a clearly defined scope and deliverables. The main goal of project planning is to establish why the project originated and exactly what must be accomplished …show more content…

EDM allows for the management of diverse types of document storage in an organization using collaboration software and storage ("IBM FileNet", n.d.). Each line of business has diverse business processes and procedures for storing and retrieving their internal documents. Each document that is loaded in the EDM system, IBM FileNet, is stored with particular metadata and retention record information. Choice lists are maintained to aid the user with data integrity and consistency. Furthermore, the document owners can request their file to be content-based retrieval enabled. This allows for keyword searches within the application to find documents based on keywords, not just metadata captured during the original load or check-in of the
The desired performance is efficient business practices being fueled by an inefficient information-processing system. The goals are to eliminate unwanted use of multiple versions of documents and speed the time between collaborative document revisions and delivery of the final version, increase the accessibility and sharing of data across the different office sites within the company, and to eliminate processing delays for administrative tasks.
Identifying and describing key features of operating systems and common application software as they relate to the management of information.
Technology has developed systems that provide an aggregated and historical view of client data. These advanced electronic processes provide avenues that best serve each client, as well as simplifying the work of human service professionals. With advanced technology, individual physical files that in the past were stored in huge shelves in an office can now be stored online in a central database, or on an external hard drive. A central storage file online provides more space for client data as well as a central location where information can be easily accessed by numerous human service branches and departments.
Sharing of documents between staff at various locations is currently accomplished by emailing the documents between offices, editing the document, and returning the edited version to the original sender or to additional locations. This has historically produced multiple document versions and often resulted in incorrect and outdated information being shared and utilized.
Donna spear-headed a working group to devise an electronic filing system for our Central Files (recognized last year on the national level). She researched the necessary requirements, drafted an SOP, conducted training and coordinated pilot testing of the process. This process has drastically improved administrative productivity, saved space, and provides CSOs remote access to reports which will eliminate the time and expense spent traveling to the District Office to retrieve hard copy reports. She has implemented training courses for business writing, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Excel to increase the knowledge and skills of NWE-DO
Duke Energy manages its own IT infrastructure. Its IT department operates two data centers in the Carolinas. The FileNet project will depend upon the acquisition of new Windows Servers and utilization of an array of different IT functions within Duke Energy. The application will be residing in an existing internal network and be protected by internal security measures. The Duke's Telecom division will be responsible to configuring the Internal Protocol addresses, C and A names for the application. The Server Operation team will install the basic operation system and configure the standard global policy settings. Once the Telecom and Server Operation team have completed the build out of the environments, the Web Infrastructure Team will configure Virtual IP (VIP) address for the clustering of the FileNet application. After all these steps are completed, the application team, EDM, will complete the FileNet installation and configuration.
Once each form was identified, a barcode was applied to paper forms that would be scanned into the EDMS. The barcode on the forms was needed so forms could be automatically indexed and routed to the correct location within the EDMS. Indexing rules were applied to scanned images and electronically fed documentation. The rules allowed the documentation to be auto-indexed to the correct location within the EDMS. Another task in form redesign was to standardize the location of the barcode on paper forms to be scanned.
The first avenue is engaging in a detailed and exhaustive examination of different employee management software systems that fully address the needs of the Personnel Division. Features of the new software program must include the drag and drop function to transfer electronic documents directly into the electronic file. Another essential feature is the search function, searching based on key words. Furthermore, once a new software vendor is selected, a discussion on transferring the current employee files to the new software will be
Duke Energy, a power company based in North Carolina determined that the acquisition of a rival power company, Progress Energy, was vital to the future success of their organization. Duke’s board determined that Progress Energy was a strategically valuable asset and the purchase would enhance their company economically, as well as, increase shareholder value. Furthermore, the deal would enhance Duke’s nuclear power ambitions…Duke has applied for permission to build two reactors and Progress has proposed building two reactors. Neither company, without government loan guarantees, could complete the nuclear projects individually. All agreed and the deal was sealed…well almost.
A major project I helped complete during my time at Duke Energy was the implementation of North American Electric Reliability Corporation – Critical Infrastructure Protection Version 5 (NERC-CIP V5) physical security requirements in 2015. Version 5, the newest version of the NERC CIP regulation, deemed various substation throughout our footprint as critical assets, due to this they now required more physical security elements in order to protect them from potential threats and sabotage. I was appointed the Operational Security Lead for the project. I completed the initial gap assessments for the 80+ substations that fell into scope from Hendersonville, NC to St Petersburg, Florida. The initial assessments were conducted to determine what physical

As PlayOn Toys continues to progress in sales and growth as a company it will be inevitable that an inadequacy will occur within their traditional system. PlayOn Toys processes and outputs information with a traditional filing system; they are at risk and faced with various dilemmas such as, limited data sharing, duplication of data, and program data dependency. The issues will be examined and explained in the following section to understand the benefits of having a database management system implemented for PlayOn Toys.
Although Duke Energy has successfully grown and endured many transitions over the past one hundred years, the company faces some serious issues that could be fatal to the company’s continued success. The company has recently lost and is expecting to lose even more of its most knowledgeable and dedicated employees, which is mostly due to the increasing age of the company’s workforce as most of the workforce is reaching the age of retirement. This paper seeks to illuminate the importance of succession planning, makes every effort to provide the best solutions for implementing a succession plan, and provides recommendations to help the human resource department at Duke Energy avoid the harmful effects that
