The purpose of this essay is to report on global warming, the evidence available, impact and actions to mitigate the phenomenon. Global warming is the single most significant occurrence in modern history as it is bound to change many aspects of life as we know it today. The essay begins by defining global warming and providing evidence that global warming exists. Reports of increasing carbon dioxide gas levels, increasing temperatures, melting ice caps and mountain glaciers and rising sea levels are examined. The report also looks into some of the arguments against global warming and disproves them. Lastly, the impact of global warming on cities, islands, food security and biodiversity is examined and actions that can be taken to reduce the progression of the phenomenon discussed.
Global warming refers to a phenomenon occurring on Earth 's surface as a result of increasing global temperatures. Increased temperatures are as a result of the accumulation of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrous oxide and methane gas in the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is a natural system that regulates the temperatures on Earth by trapping the sun 's heat to keep the temperature on the surface warm enough to support life. However, increasing levels of the greenhouse gases as a result of industrialization and rising population continue to increase the temperatures on the Earth 's surface causing various physical, environmental, climatic and ecological changes on
What is global warming? Global warming refers to extreme changes in the Earth’s climate. The term illustrates dramatic increases in atmospheric and water temperatures experienced as a result of growing amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. Humans are responsible for producing these gases via cars, electricity, and factories. The main products of these activities that are to blame for global warming are methane and carbon dioxide; as carbon dioxide, methane, and chlorofluorocarbon compounds go farther and farther into the Earth’s atmosphere, they deplete the ozone layer. Holes in the ozone are allowing harmful ultraviolet rays (that are usually deflected by the ozone layer) to make their way to lower levels of the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases absorb and give off radiation from the UV rays, contributing to extreme temperature conditions. Some of the effects. Global warming has had extreme effects on the planet. Earth’s average surface temperature has been increasing; since the 1880s, temperature has increased by between 1 and 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. While this may sound like a small number, it has heavily impacted other aspects of our global ecosystem, and it is continuing to rise at a faster rate. Arctic ice is vanishing and glaciers are melting; as a result, polar bears, penguins, and other animals have begun to suffer.
Global warming has been deteriorating, and criticised by the entire world environmental organisations throughout the contemporary world. This phenomenon is mainly associated be human made pollutions and wastes emitted through the global industrialisation. Out of this global issue, modern architects has started to design architectures which included the concern of sustainability. Sustainable architecture can be divided in three different core parts: sustainable materials, sustainable construction and sustainable technologies. Moreover, sustainable architectural materials will be the aim in this report due to the reasons that exploring various types of sustainable architectural materials and how architects had applied those materials on the architecture design are always a popular topic, also materials would be an important section that people could be easily understood and noticed in their daily life. Furthermore, the research will be tended to focus on researching new kind of sustainable materials in the contemporary architectural world based in some article and books written by the architectural professionals, and seek for innovate sustainable materials that might have not been in common used for architecture. The research on this project aims to examine sustainability in architectural aspect, also, the advantage that sustainable architecture has been made in modern architecture.
We hear about it on the news, we read about it in our textbooks, and it’s happening now. This “it” is global warming that is slowly tearing our earth apart. Mankind itself has been causing the earth’s temperatures to rise approximately 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880 due to constant emission of carbon dioxide from carbon based fuels. This includes industrialization, deforestation, and pollution which has greatly increased atmospheric concentrations of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide which result in trapping heat near Earth’s surface. Humas are putting themselves at risk as the world’s temperatures rise every year and is expected to raise 5 to 10 degrees higher by the end of the century, which is faster than it has ever been according to the National Resource Defense Council’s website. Global warming has been affecting the world at an alarming rate in various ways, one major impact is the melting of permafrost.
In news everywhere, there is always something about polar ice caps melting or the ever-rising temperatures, but most people do not think twice about it since, they are not directly affected by it. They may not be feeling the effects of global warming at the moment, but in time it will become a more widespread issue. The effects of global warming are hard to refute, and there is endless evidence of this growing problem in our world today. The continuation of global warming is a serious threat to everyone and everything on Earth.
In truth, before taking this class I never really cared about the environment, sure I would hear the occasional uproar about the effects of global warming or the growing hole in the ozone layer, however, it was always a non-factor. My passion has always been humans, their problems were my problems and I am always looking for a way to make their lives better. So, the planet may have been dying the ice caps may have been melting, however I always believed that one day humans would solve the problems we had created. So whenever anyone mentioned the damage we had done and continue to do, I always shake it off. However, after taking this class, I now realize how important the environment is to human life, for this a future generation. Modernity
Global warming was once speculative but, after much research, it has since been scientifically proven by a number of methods. One such method is that used by paleoclimatologist Lonnie Thomas who collects the cores from ice masses all around the globe for his analysis of stable isotopes found in oxygen as discussed on page 452 of the text. Essentially, Thompson and his team concluded from their findings that “…most ice cores indicate that the last 50 years were the warmest 50-year period in the last 2000 years and, in some places, for the entire Holocene! Our climate is clearly going to grow even warmer and less hospitable” (Larsen 452). What, exactly, is global warming? “The increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere
Global warming is the term used to describe the rise in the Earth’s temperature observed over the last century. It has had significant effects on the polar ice caps, as the rising temperature is causing them to melt. It has also been linked to rising sea levels as the rise has been quicker than ever recorded in the last century. It is believed to be caused by increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, due to burning fossil fuels, other human activities and volcanic activity. It also doesn’t help that most of the world’s forests are being cut down to be used for wood and other materials, this means those plants can no longer photosynthesise and get rid of some of the CO2 (which is a greenhouse gas) from the atmosphere.
How would the population of the world appreciate it if the Earth got relentlessly hot in a matter of time? Well, this is global warming. This outrageous heat increase is something many think is microscopic and harmless, but it could change the Earth immensely in a matter of time. Made by human activity, global warming, including the burning of fossil fuel, and blazing down forests. Yet scientists can detect how much the Earth’s temperature is increasing, but countries can fix these problems by not depending on natural resources so much, reusing energy, and setting policies for climate change to help the public regulate it.
There is no doubt that global warming becomes one of the most dangerous, serious and popular issues in the 21st century. It is possible to identify the probable and effective solutions by means of the population around the world to reduce negative effects on our planet. Joseph and Roy (2014) points out 97% of the scientists and professionals are trying to discover the best explanations, which can prevent our world from violent disasters that can damage the lives and wealth of all nations and animals. This essay will consider how global warming worsens day by day, the consequences of global warming and the solutions to overcome it.
Global warming is the term used to describe the increase in the Earth 's atmosphere and oceans temperature, which is believed to be permanently changing the Earth 's climate (LiveScience). The temperature of the Earth 's atmosphere is rising because greenhouse gases are being trapped in the atmosphere, which in turn in also trapping heat in the atmosphere, not able to escape (Scott, 2009). Global warming is a severe problem for the Earth because it causes the regular temperatures to rise, and interferes with ecosystems all over the world, possibly destroying them, if not altering their system. Scientists have reported that the world is heating up even faster than predicted a few years before (Scott, 2009).
Global warming is a subject that elicits different opinions, even in the political sphere. During the 2016 presidential campaign, the Democratic candidates all declare that global warming is a national crisis and that some policies need to be implemented. On the other hand, the majority of the Republican candidates claims that global warming is all a hoax and that designing policies to combat global warming are a waste of money and energy. The different stances happening in the political sphere are also happening outside of the political sphere. Everyone in the world has different views on global warming, but very few of us did anything to lessen the impact of global warming in that the majority of us each drive our own fossil fuel-using vehicles instead of using public transportation, and the majority of us rarely reuses and recycle. Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trap heat in Earth 's atmosphere because some of the sun 's rays cannot escape. It is a worldwide phenomenon that impacts each and every one of us because it cause irregular climate patterns, increases the sea levels, and decreases human living standards.
The advancement of human civilization time stamped with industrial revolution influenced higher standards of living with urbanization, the development of factories, metallurgy, mining, transportation, and mass production. The developments where driven by coal, which became a continuous and powerful resource of energy. As energy, mass production and technology progressed the human species had distinctly in rapid time left a unique foot print in Earth’s history. This unique foot print marked by pollutants, caused a rapidly changing environment. Within decades sea levels started to rise and a change in rainfall became apparent, areas with drought started to receive less precipitation, thus high temperatures started to cause a reduction in global harvest. Thus, scientist discovered global warming was influenced by the human production of greenhouse gas that could potentially cause irreversible climate change, which could continue for 1000 years. Although, these facts are daunting, optimistic approaches for combating global warming are obtainable. Global recognition of climate change has influenced a cap on carbon emissions and stimulated the use of renewable energy, but this may not be enough considering the time greenhouse gas lingers in the stratosphere. Therefore, geoengineering may be a new approach for resurrecting our climate, in an attempt to counteract the effects of global warming. For this to be an evident and positive approach three factors should be taken into
Global warming is the increase of the Earth’s core temperature. The atmosphere naturally warms up. However, with the unwanted help of humans, the Earth is forming more heat leading to a large amount of heat trapped in its atmosphere. The rise in temperature creates problems for human life, nature, and of course the planet itself. Global warming is a global crisis that needs attention.
Generally, our common understandings about Global Warming would be that the weather or the temperature’s changing; for example, we physically feel the winter is getting warmer or the spring seems comes earlier this year. However, the effect of the Global Warming is way greater than our physical feelings. As the dictionary’s definition, “An increase in the average temperature of the Earth 's atmosphere, especially a sustained increase great enough to cause changes in the global climate”, for the macro aspects, global warming is gradually affecting the sea-level, animals and plants, agriculture and human-being’s heath. Lately, I’ve been really interesting in the global warming’s affects, because the city where I live back in China is suffering a really bad pollution, people call it as Toxic Haze, not only in my hometown, but all the China’s eastern coast were blanketed by this toxic haze, a famous geographer in China bring forward a perspective that this terrible pollution is related with the effect of the Global Warming. Thus, I think the Global Warming have already involved or threaten our living quality and health. Global Warming’s situation is getting worse and more serious.
Global Warming is one of the most impactful issues confronting our planet. It is the rise in the temperature of the world 's surface air, and is a standout amongst the most present and generally examined components. It has great effect on the climatic states of the planet as well as on biodiversity. A few test and inclines unmistakably exhibit that global warming is straightforwardly affecting the rising ocean levels, the softening of ice glaciers, and critical overall atmosphere changes. To sum it up, global warming speaks to be a major danger to every living thing on earth as we know it and will continue to do so if no changes are made to retract it.
