Name: Danyel Cox Instructor: Dr. Ragsdale Date: March 18 Global Warming The 20th and 21st centuries have been characterized by calls of environmental management and conservation from environmentalists. The issue that has been of serious concern has been the gradual but constant rise in the environmental temperatures across the whole world. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as global warming. It is essentially believed that the world temperatures were uniform and constant before the industrial age. However, as the years go by, it has been noted that the environmental temperatures have been on the gradual rise. This has raised concerns about the long-term implications if this situation is not tacked well in advance. Global warming is caused by the depletion of the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere that shields the earth's lowers atmosphere from harmful and intense solar radiation. Scientists believe that the main cause of depletion of this layer is the greenhouse gases and chlorofluorocarbons released into the atmosphere as a result of industrial processes. Some of these gases include sulfur (IV) Oxide, Chlorine, and some other carbon compounds from the combustion of fossil fuels. This gases cause the reduction in the thickness of the layer hence reducing its capacity to filter the sunrays reaching the earth surface. The impacts of global warming are numerous and widely diverse. They range from minor sunburns to cases of skin cancer as far as their implications
The society of the modern day and age is characterized by a wide array of elements, such as unprecedented levels of technologic development, ongoing fights for human rights and societal development, but also high levels of environmental threat. The global warming phenomenon has, for decades, been assessed with importance and reticence alike. While some would argue the severity of the raising global temperatures, others would attest that global warming was a make belief phenomenon. Today however, as science has proven the existence of the phenomenon, more measures have to be taken to ensure environmental stability.
Global warming is the steady heating of Earth’s land, oceans, and atmosphere caused primarily by human activity. Climate change is one of the world’s biggest challenges right now, from people actively arguing that it doesn’t exist- to other’s who don’t care enough to do anything about it. There’s evidence showing that climate change is happening and affecting our world now and from what it seems, if action isn’t taken, major consequences will soon arise. Most of the world’s land mass has experienced a 0.2-1.0 degree Celsius average temperature increase since the 1970s, the temperatures of the Artic has increased at almost twice the mean global rate. Climate change is caused by human factors such as greenhouse gases and ozone depletion and because humans are so dependent on fossil fuels in their day to day lives, the issue at hand is only going to get worse.
Global warming is the rising of temperatures on the surface of the earth due to the trapping of heat rising from the earth’s surface. It is caused by the destruction of the Ozone layer by the carbon dioxide emitted mostly from the burning of the fossil fuel and the deforestation. The ozone layer is a layer of oxygen in the atmosphere responsible for absorbing the heat from the earth’s surface.
Global warming is caused by several things. One of these is the release of carbon dioxide into the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by using energy generated from burning fossil fuels.
Global warming is and has been known as one of the largest and most challenging problems that pertains to the environment today. Around the world many are experiencing negative impacts on the daily, those from farmers to those living in more forest like environments. As the ecosystem becomes more and more devastated, awareness and prevention of climate change has never been more important. Many people doubt the existence of global warming, however its is clearly evident through the intensification of heat waves and the melting of ice caps.
Global warming is caused due to the presence of the gasses in the atmosphere, mainly carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons and nitrogen oxide
Antarctic’s ice melt and accelerating sea level rise, the growing number of large wildfires, intense heat wave shocks, severe drought and blizzards, disrupted and decreased food supply, and extreme storm events are increasing to happen in many areas world wide and these are just some of the consequences of global warming. The fossil fuel we burn for energy coal, natural gas, and oil plus the loss of forests due to disforestation, in the southern hemisphere are all contributors for climate change. In the past three decades, every single year was warmer then the previous year and the warmest 12 years were recorded since 1998. We are overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and trapping the heat and
‘Sustainability’ and all its connotations have become the term of the millennium thus far, although it was an idea introduced in the 1980’s. It encompasses many interpretations, and has taken on a very loaded and preconceived meaning. Many have a vision of green initiatives and global warming-based issues, but what does it mean to the in today’s society? Even when narrowed to the disciplines of architecture and planning, it is a multifaceted and loaded concept. Kenny and Meadowcroft discuss a shift in this complex term, stating that
Did you know that global warming is real and extremely dangerous for our environment? Today, there are a variety of environmental problems that affect our entire world; some of them include rain forest destruction, air pollution, land pollution, acid rain, and over population. However, out of all these problems, Global warming is the major problem that exists in our environment. According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, global warming is an increase in the earth’s average atmospheric temperature due to which the climate changes. This is caused by the greenhouse effect, where the atmosphere builds up by gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, and the heat from the sun stays in the
It is known that global warming contributes to climate change worldwide. Climate change directly affects the environment, but also affects aspects of one’s everyday life such as technology. Although not apparent, technology can propel or inhibit climate change. As many know, global warming is due to an excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Recently, an oil and gas company, Exxon Mobil, was accused of not warning the public about the risks of climate change; the extent in which the company contributes to climate change. Many believe this was due to the fact that the company wanted to protect their profits. Essentially, by releasing such information the company would face backlash from environmentalists as well as the possibility of receiving violations from the federal government. Environmental and social justice groups did not cease. They demanded that a federal investigation occur in which such allegations were researched. The groups addressed a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch comparing the fraudulent activity of Exxon Mobil to the tobacco industry in the 1950’s. Exxon Mobil denied the allegations declaring that they finance accurate scientific research.
Health effects one of the few major impacts of global warming. With increased CO2 emissions in the air it can cause increased issues with people already suffering from asthma. CO2 emissions can also affect pulmonary and cardiac disease worsening the severity of it. Because of the increased heat problems like dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are becoming more of an issue. “Dangerously hot weather is already occurring more frequently than it did 60 years ago—and scientists expect heat waves to become more frequent and severe as global warming intensifies.” (Global Warming Impacts). If the world does not do more to reduce fossil fuel emissions and other greenhouse gases that are making heat waves more intense, a lot of people could get hurt and around 150,000 additional Americans could die by the end of this century due to excessive heat.
The environment plays an integral part of offering and sustaining livelihoods to billions of humans around the globe. Without rain, food security is adversely threatened, meaning that humans’ most vital need could be affected. Recently, the issue of global warming has caught many nations’ attention as carbon emissions significantly cause it. Greenhouse gas emissions around the world have been somehow unavoidable, but countries have sought methods to mitigate the inevitable outcomes. While it often seems as though this task is too daunting to overcome, this paper asserts that with the right approach, carbon emissions could be controlled thus reducing the destructive impacts on the environment, which inevitably lead to dire
In these days Global warming is one of the major problems of 21st century in front of the world. The major cause them is carbon emission. Every time fossil fuels such as gas, coal or oil burn, it releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The effect of all this extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is that the overall temperature of the planet is increasing. Whilst the average global temperature is increasing, on a day-to-day level the climate is changing in unpredictable ways. So it is necessary to control the emission of atmospheric carbon and for that people have suggested different kinds of ideas. Carbon tax is considered as one of the effective ways. Carbon price is the tax on the emission of carbon into the atmosphere than the decided level as well as it is a tax on energy sources which emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It is effectively a tax on pollution (Wright, 2011). However, some people argue that there could be some ways to change the climate like energy conversation and planting trees, these ways could be good but a carbon tax’s environment effects such as reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and decrease the temperature, increases in consumer product prices and inflation as well as an effect on the employment rate, putting a price on carbon is the best solution for climate change because it is the most effective way for climate change.
Global warming and environmental issues such as contaminated water, the loss of habitats, etc. are topics that have raise the attention of many people (associations or campaigns) who are constantly trying to discover new ways to reduce global warming. This problem has many outcomes such as ice melting in Antarctica, the dramatic climate changes, among others; The list goes on and on of negative environmental issues that are happening and that are rapidly increasing each day. That is why these associations try to find ways to create awareness in people about the situation. Exploring about the different solutions that can help reduce or slow down the effect of global warming is a good way to answers questions like, “does recycling plastic materials help reduce global warming?” or, “How many people would have to cooperate to make a significant change to slow down the increment of global warming?”
Global warming is the constant increase of temperature in the earth’s atmosphere that is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, greenhouse gases and many other pollutants. Chlorofluorocarbons are any type of compounds of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine which are harmful to the ozone layer. Global warming can affect many things, one example is the rising of temperature which can result in different types of disasters like storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts. Global warming also causes Higher death rates, Dirtier air, Higher wildlife extinction rates, the increase of Acidic Oceans, and Higher seas levels. In this essay, I will provide information that will show how harmful global warming can be to not only the earth but to humans and animals, and what we can do to prevent it from increasing.
