When you listen to Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie No. 1 you are struck with a sullen, dreamy chord progression striking the root on the one of the measure and the 3rd, 5th, and 7th of the chord on the 2nd and 3nd of the measure with its waltz like ¾ timing. You hear this song and it almost immediately hits you with a feeling of sadness but there is a sort of beauty to it. But why? Why is it that this song makes you feel sad? Many people who are untrained in music will have a simple explanation such as “it’s because it’s slow” or “because it’s in a minor key”. While yes it is at a slow 78 bpm but anybody with a trained ear can tell that it’s in the key of D Major. So there must be more to it than just its tempo or what key it’s in. As you move further along in this endeavour of understanding music you learn that instead of it being just one or two things that make a song happy or sad it’s a combination of many different attributes. Such as key signature, tempo, meter, chord extensions, intervals, and etc.Music in it many forms makes us all feel different emotions. Music can evoke so many different types of emotions some will make you want to dance and some will make you want to cry. Some will make you remember the best times of your life and some will remind you of the worst. To understand the invisible connection that so many of us feel towards music one must first understand at least the basics of music theory. How is it that a combination of pitch all caused by synthetic or
The gym can be very intimidating; the equipment is huge and bulky, even the locker rooms can bring back frightening flashbacks from junior high Physical Education class. Everyone had that moment when, to their horror, they realized they had to change in front of their classmates. At least at the gym, there are curtained off tiny hideouts in the locker room that you can close yourself off in and change.
When I think about pitch the first things come to mind are instruments. This reminds me in middle school if you wanted to a part of the band, you got to test each instrument. I always had a fascinating with a flute, which had high a frequency and high pitch. Another instrument was a trombone; this had a low frequency and low pitch. This helped me understand the difference between pitches.
Dodgeball helps teach students around the world that it is OK to lose at a game every now and then, it happens to everyone. Rick Reilly, the author of the article Weak Shall Inherit the Gym stated that “Then those kids’ parents will send them out into the world to realise that, Yes there are winners and losers.” Bringing this statement into the argument helps show that if adults do not show those noncompetitive children that it is possible to lose, they will not act like an adult when they do lose they will never learn. Kids just have to learn to deal with it and learn from their mistakes so they will not lose next time. Children have to deal with losing like a Mature adult or they will have a rough life later on.
Using sad music gets the person already feeling emotional and is put there purposely to do that.
Lie on your back and place your finger on the cord behind your head. Keep your abs tight, raise your left knee to your right elbow touches. Do it for the right knee, and repeat this exercise 15 times a day.
The health club industry has continued to see an increase in the amount of health clubs/fitness centers. Since 1992, the United States has seen the number of health clubs increased by almost 40 percent, from 12,635 to 17,531 facilities. It has also seen an increase in membership by almost 60 percent, from 20.8 million to 32.8 million. What this all means for Fun 4 Life Fitness Center, LLC is that the market is ever growing which translates to more competition. Most fitness centers offer a variety of services to address the needs and convenience of the customers. Some of these services includes personal trainers, facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, and programs that cater to mostly every demographic.
Another observance that I made regarded the male and female distributions throughout the day at the UNC Asheville gym. During the morning there was a disproportionate amount of females, with an estimated 65% of the makeup of the gym being females with most using the cycling machines. However later in the day males were the most populous demographic in the gym, and by far the majority was occupied using the weight room or the weight machines. I propose that this may be due to the main motivation differing between males and females using the gym. Society tends to put more pressure on females to lose weight and be in shape, while there is more pressure on males to have large amounts of muscle and generally be larger, with less emphasis placed
Music has always been emotionally evocative to me since I was young. I am always able to recall just how extreme the atmosphere and mood can be enhanced by music. Whether at a bitter-sweet moment in a TV show or at a heroic moment in a video game music is always there to multiply the emotions of the scene tenfold. Even today I find myself recalling emotions and feeling them all over again whenever I listen to a particular piece of music, especially so for ones that went along with a highly memorable scene in a show or game. I wind up pumping my fist in the air all over again if inspiring, or fighting back tears if morose. I never knew why music affected me so or how, and so after learning of this assignment I decided it was time I looked into it. Why this story matters is simple. It is simply the reason I ever asked this question. I wanted to know why music could affect emotions to such an extent, and why it could leave such lasting impacts.
A wallet was stolen from the Campus Town gym sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, according to Campus Police. The student placed her wallet on the elliptical machine she was using and accidentally left it there when she left and went back to her dorm. When she realized she had left it at the gym, she went back and looked around for it, but could not find it. The wallet and its contents were valued at $120, including $40 in cash, police said.
people’s lives in a very unique way. Everyone experiences music differently; what can be a sad
If music reveals emotions, it is not a normal emotion like any other (Stecker 273). The expression in music can be considered a traditionalized phenomenon (Stecker 273). There are common questions about
One critique I have is when I was observing in the gym, It was extremely hard for me to get any good recording data. The children were very loud and it was unclear for me to hear what they were saying. I could only pick up on a few sentences or statements. What I learned from this is when the children are in the gym it is the hardest, most difficult time to write running records on language. It was much better when I came back the next two mornings and observed much clearer language. I found being in the observation booth to observe the classroom was much more conductive when gathering useful data/information then when the children are in the gym. Something I can do in the future to improve speech and language data is write down whole conversations
Kids S.P.O.T. is located at 1955 N Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach, FL 33062. It is a pediatric outpatient clinic situated in the Pompano Citi Centre mall on the second floor. The clinic has nine treatment rooms in addition to a kitchen, a front office, a waiting room, two bathrooms, and a gym. There is four different types of swings, a slide, a shoe rack, a basketball hoop, a trampoline, and a large red mat on the floor where the physical therapists and the occupational therapists do their treatments. The gym is big enough for all the therapists to perform their treatments. There is a closet that
In today’s busy world, it can be hard to find the time to even think about one’s fitness, let alone actually do anything to maintain it. The average person has school, work, family, pets, and many more distractions in their life to ensure their fitness is left on the backburner. However, when the thought of exercise does eventually enter their mind, the thought that often comes forefront is that of the gym. The concept of a gym is simple, populate a building with the necessary equipment for a variety of physical activities, attracting people who want to get that perfect body or even just get back in shape. However, many people who have never frequented a gym often come up with a plethora of reasons not to go.
example, a song with slow tempo and lyrics about remembering a lost loved one can emit feelings of deep sorrow or regret, which can be reflected and felt by the one singing, or even listening to, the music. On the other hand, a more joyous and fast-paced song can allow one to feel more energized and up-beat.
