Head to Head: A World of Computers
The world has come a long way with its development of technology. Day-by-day the people who are using and relying on technology have dramatically increased. But out of all these new technologies, the computer is probably one of the most important, if not the most. And two operating systems have been competing with each other from the beginning. These two companies are Apple with their Mac and Microsoft with their Windows PC. Although both Apple and Microsoft have created great machines they differ when it comes down to price, design and operating system, and popularity.
There is no question that when talking about computers the word price always comes up. Macs are known to not be the cheapest computer

Which at the end of the day tends to be more appealing to the consumer. Both Microsoft and Apple have developed their own operating system Apple’s latest OS Mavericks and Microsoft’s Windows 8. On one hand Microsoft’s windows 8 has several applications inside its operating system that make appealing to consumers. On of these applications is Microsoft office. This application combines Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and is used everyday in businesses, schools, and homes across the globe. On the other hand Macs have the option to ruin Microsoft office on their operating system. At the same time they offer and application called iWork which is essentially Apple’s “Microsoft office”, this includes: Pages, a program similar to word, Numbers, Apple’s version of excel and Keynote the PowerPoint of Macs. Mac also have to feature to fully run Microsoft window. Making it easy to toggle form Windows to Mac on the same computer. Such feature is only available on Mac. PCs however cannot run Apple’s software unless the use a third party application, this makes the transition between Apple’s software to Microsoft Windows not as smoothly on a PC compared to a Mac. Despite the fact that these to computers have very similar operating systems the popularity on each has shifted a lot in the past years.
Both of these computers have become extremely popular in the past decade. The popularity of Apple’s Macs, short for
Most of the people see Apple computers as “fancy expensive toys” but in fact they are beautiful and powerful tools. I have used both, in fact I started using Windows and of course being basically a monopoly everybody was forced to use windows by those days. The first version of windows I ever use was Windows 3.1 and despite almost every new version (except by ME and Vista) was in some ways improved it never reached the performance and stability of a OSX system. Lot of “ hardware connoisseurs” can say wait a minute! Apple computers have better hardware, but this was true until some years ago. Nowadays, most of PCs have similar or even more powerful hardware.
First, the price of a Macintosh is typically around $2000, a high price for a computer. This is significantly due to the fact that Apple produces all of their
The Mac OS is the product of Apple, which was created in 1976 by the late Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac. Mac OS, unlike Microsoft's Windows, is an operating system designed only for the Macintosh computers. Whereas Microsoft's creation of Windows seemed more or less linear after the late 1980's, Apple circulated a number of different computers with different OS’s, such as the Apple II, Apple III, the Lisa, in addition to the line of Macintoshes. The ultimate brilliance behind Apple's development of its operating systems is vertical combination: Mac also develops both its own hardware and software. However Microsoft takes a different approach: it provides the OS that is used by almost all IBM compatible computers manufactured. Of all the individual personal computer ventures that Apple started however, only the top sellers of the Macintosh remain in production and continue to evolve.
When considering which operating system for a home or business office computer or network of computers, it is important to evaluate all areas of the different operating systems options. When evaluating Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, and Linux operating systems it is important to consider the system requirements, the different editions available, security features, system features, updates and support, user interface, and cost effectiveness. Depending on what a person’s or organization’s needs are will determine which operating system is best fit.
This, of course, means competition, which in turn lowers prices. Macintosh systems are sold primarily sold in whole systems which are composed of RAM and processor speed, meaning that the consumer ends up with what Apple has decided should be included in the system. Windows systems, however, can be built to the consumer needs, or by the consumer themselves. They could select which part would be best for them for the price they would pay for it.
Today, Microsoft is worth seventy-two billion dollars. Now, one of the biggest questions are “Microsoft or Apple?”. Many people prefer a Windows 10, but others prefer a
Mac vs. PC debate Did you know that 5% of personal computer consumers own an Apple Macintosh? The Apple Macintosh vs Windows personal computer debate is a controversy in the computer science field. Computer experts cannot narrow down a superior computer in all components, due to the closeness in competition. These components to a computer are usually: design, operating system, aesthetic appearance, performance, and price. The Macintosh computer has an easier design to work with, and is also more easily accessible due to its user friendly format.
With time, the PC continued to evolve and newer models offered better speed, color screens, more memory and larger hard drives. Further technical evolution continued to deliver higher speeds, larger storage capacity both internal and external. In addition to the hardware progression, the PC world continued to see progress with operating system solutions and advanced software catering to both large and small businesses as well as the home owner.
The argument we often hear from PC users is that the cost of a Mac is too high and they can purchase a machine with the same power as a Mac for less. Although the cost of a Mac is relatively higher about 400-600 in the long run the higher cost and the value of the Mac will outweigh the pc. Lets take the new 27” IMac into consideration. First off the amount of pixels used is well above and beyond the HD quality of 1080p. To purchase another computer screen with this amount of pixilation will require a screen larger than 30” and with a price tag well above 1000 dollars. Secondly it ships with a wireless keyboard standard and with the new wireless multi touch mouse. The first desktop of any
In general basic Windows PC’s usually start out around $400-$500. This is a basic PC but is a very good home computer or one that can be used for basic functions like surfing the Internet and using email. This is usually a good start for a family who does not use the computer for much more than the internet, or for a student who just needs to write papers and possibly Microsoft office. MAC’s start out over $1000 and are not customizable for someone who is looking for basic features in a personal computer. While MAC’s are also more technological and can perform many functions you have the ability to get the same features at around the same cost in a Windows PC because of its adaptability. MAC’s are very pricey because of their processors and the ability for them to run many more programs at once but these features are standard and cannot be removed to lower the price. Windows PC’s have the ability for these features to be added, and you can choose which are more important to you. For example, you can upgrade to an Intel i7 processor which will meet the speed of a MAC but go with less storage space which may not be needed because you prefer to play games on your computer. It is unfortunate that Apple has not noticed this and mad adding features to a MAC an option thus making them more expensive. Price will not be an issue when buying a Windows PC because you choose what you want for what price you can afford.

Every year, technology scientists discover new amazing features that later get implanted into our daily used electronics. These days, one of the most known technology companies like Microsoft and Apple, compete with each other to release what’s best for their customers especially in computers. Apple and Microsoft might be both manufactures and sellers of similar functional computers but, there are many differences in the way their operating systems attract different people with different style. From the different structure of coding, to the same purpose of creating a type of style people feel most comfortable of using. Having a different mechanical structure and it’s components but, with the same functionality it produces. Lastly, getting use to these operating systems on these machines both take time but, which options they provide will depend who’s the buyer.
