It would be difficult for Sainsbury to recover that huge sum of money that they have already invested. As they have abandoned the place they are not going to use that place anymore so they won’t be able get some profit or money which will help them recover what they have already invested. Secondly, in case study it states that they are marketing the constructed building with car park to interested retailers. In my opinion no retailers will be willing to buy that building as Sainsbury have already backed up the superstore telling that UK shopping patterns have already changed. Therefore other retailers will be also feeling that they will also not be able to make up profit by opening their store in that particular building which Sainsbury have left. So Sainsbury will not be able to get a retailer to buy that building and it would be a big loss for them.
In addition Middlesbrough council will not be able to trust Sainsbury. Sainsbury have lost the trust of Middlesbrough council by leaving the plan worth of £35m which was a redevelopment of the middles haven area. They have lost the hope that the middle haven will be redevelopment or

Tesco’s main product line is based around food. Therefore Tesco have to monitor how their customers feel about the food product range. Tesco recognised that many people wanted different products other than food; therefore Tesco opened up a clothing range and offered quality clothing to their customers. Customers are becoming more aware of health issues, this affects the way eat. One way in which Tesco is adapting to its product mix is by increasing demand for organic products.
As a business Tesco needs to be aware of the social markets around them as and when they arise. If they didn’t then parents may choose to do other shopping such as groceries in competitors stores who do provide such merchandise or who are closer to specialist retailers to save on multiple trips.
