Workforce and labor consist of availability of workers in all areas and regions of the world. The obtainable number of workers is the prime interest of the HR professionals. We must remember that the nations workforce is affect by economics, birthrates, education and the flexibility of the labor force. Since the baby boom generation mostly find themselves continuing to work pass the age of 65 and the labor force is growing only by 2% within the ages of 25 through 54 that HR professionals find that they’re having to invent more solutions to meet the demand of generational workers. This brings to mind that HR professionals must understand and be able to enforce immigration laws and to over see worker documentation. Per our text there is also
Our economy is dependent on immigration labor now and in the future, the labor force will increasingly depend on immigrants and their children. This is a reason why it’s so important for immigrants to have permissions and papers like the ones that make them available to work. They need working papers to help businesses, contribute to the economy and to maintain themselves.
When immigration policy is discussed, typically, it is discussed within the confines of egalitarian notions and sentiments, and inside the boundaries and parameters set by generally Marxist-influenced social democracy. Characteristically, it is not discussed pertaining to the concept of a social order built on the rights of property owners, sharers, and contributors to and of the common stock- which at their discretion- may exclude bad apples, lazy contributors, rotten characters, trespassers, and terrorists. Once egalitarian sentiments and notions are rejected full-scale- (only giving credence to those that have empirical weight or logical consistency) more proper, more substantive interdisciplinary analyses may reveal that the current investigative techniques employed by current mainstream political theorists are- in the context of reality, incorrect, superficial and quite shallow.
A common biased opinion on immigration is that immigrants coming to the United States are taking American jobs. According to the Immigration Policy Center, “research indicates there is little connection between immigrant labor and unemployment rates of native-born workers.” The jobs that immigrants are taking are the low-budget jobs that Americans do not want. They not only get less pay, but also less benefits in comparison to American workers. In fact, according to Forbes, “illegal immigrants actually raise wages for documented/native workers.” America is considered to be more productive when we have more trading partners, Undocumented workers with limited English skills allows more American workers
The HR Department wears many hats and is most cases responsible for many areas: budget controlling, conflict resolution, training, employee satisfaction, cost saving measures, strategic planning, and of course the big one…the hiring of the “right “individuals. The hiring process needs to be an organized and well thought out set of procedures from identifying who will be needed to the hiring and training of that individual. There are many steps, some of which have legal ramifications, so the procedures need to be followed and reviewed to ensure that the procedures are not only capturing the best candidates but the procedures comply with all of the laws.
Employment of illegal immigrants in the United States, as well as other countries has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. There are many people living in various countries around the world that are unhappy with the way they are living, and want something more out of life than what their country can offer. Due to their unhappiness, they decide to immigrate to another country, and this is usually done illegally. Once they are in their preferred country, which a lot of the time is the United States, they are forced to work in low skilled jobs because higher skilled jobs require people to speak fluent English and show proof of residency. Although many people view illegal migrants as a
Immigration is one of the most important issues that the United States faces and thus has misperceptions such as how immigration affects the workforce and economy, the size and composition of the immigrants, and the budgetary impact of unauthorized immigration. As of 2012, more than 40 million immigrants lived in the United States, the population accounting for about 13 percent of the total population of U.S. The same year showed that unauthorized immigrants were 11.7 million, accounting for 3.7 percent of all the people of the U.S and roughly 5.2 percent of the labor force. Most of the illegal immigrants are Latino who is primarily from Central America and Mexico. 46 percent of all the immigrants in the
Invisible workers are workers who are usually performing jobs or services that may be behind the scenes, unseen and unknown, maintaining a low profile to avoid detection. This country has many invisible workers and many of them are here as undocumented workers. The jobs they do and services they perform help to keep our society running smoothly in many cases. Often they do not get credit for the work that they do, but in many cases, we could not get along without them. Many of the jobs the undocumented workers perform are jobs that no one else wants to do, such as work in sanitation, janitorial, construction, etc. Because of the nature of many of these jobs, a number of them are performed by those who are here without benefit of legal documentation.
This article is about the possibility of legislation being passed that may allow immigrant workers to gain temporary citizenship. This legislation would distribute temporary work permits to immigrants so they would not have to worry about deportation because of their undocumented status. The possibility for this legislation to be passed is creating a divide between farmers who disagree on the passing of the legislature. Those that are advocating for the passing of this regulation are arguing that it would allow more skilled workers in the community which would improve the lives of many illegal immigrants who are unable to apply for better jobs since they are undocumented. Those fighting against the work permits are arguing that it would take away their workers by giving them the opportunity to take jobs that are better than farming. Many of the government officials believe that if Barack Obama attempts to pass this law on immigrant workers, it would be shut down by Congress. The Republican lawmakers and some members of
FFF is an organization that fights for more comprehensive immigration laws in the U.S. According to the FFF’s website, FFF started in the aftermath of 9/11 when Arab and Muslim men were forced to report to the government on the sole basis of their nationality (“History of FFF”). So ten years ago, three families came together to confront their order of deportation. Together they broke the silence and created an informal network focused on providing mutual support and education. Now, this organization has evolved into a network of families fighting on the frontlines of the United States’ immigration debate (“History of FFF”). FFF advocates for the creation of new laws that will grant families with mixed legal statuses the right to stay together
The labor movement is a really broad topic and within it, there are many movements that make it up. Let us think of it as the term ice cream, there are many toppings that contribute to creating the biggest ice cream. Immigrant labor is one of the toppings to the labor movement. Immigrant workers have struggled throughout time to get equal pay in jobs, to get better benefits, or to even get jobs because they come from another country that’s not the United States of America. The immigration labor movement has been very powerful throughout the years economically and politically and it has been shown in 20 and 21-century movements and many moments in time. Although it may seem that The Mexican Farm labor movement in 1942 is not connected to The
In this paper, I decided to analyze the immigration policy. The immigration policies have had a deep history. The policies have been twisted, in the long run, to meet the demands of the time. However, most of the times, the policies have been unfair especially in regard to the immigrants. The overview contains a rich history of the policy progression and advancements in the immigration sector. In this paper, I decided to extrapolate on some few contemporary issues that are as a result of the immigration policies and laws. One of the contentious issues is the Visa policy. This is a system that is widely used by the US government. Though formulated with a good purpose, the formulation did not cater for everything that is associated with immigration. For instance, the immigrants who are on transit for employment are not selected based on the employment demand in the market, hence, they end up being stranded and thus are forced to accept low-paying jobs with poor working conditions. The solution to this is also discussed in the paper. I have also discussed on the open door policy and its implications which include overpopulation. Overpopulation on its part has directly affected both the immigrants and natives with many adverse effects. I was able to do research, and I consequently came up with a set of alternative methods that could be of help. However, I have also discussed
You brought up a very good point, I never look at it from this angle where company shipping jobs oversea at an alarming rate. Then the populous blame the immigrants for taking all the jobs, from the already limited job market; whether is the labor force due to automation or jobs exiting the country.
