The Industrial Revolution began in Britain 1760, and has eventually spread to all over the world. The Industrial Revolution was a turning point in human history. It not only severely changed every aspect of human life and overall lifestyle, it also impacted on humans’ relationship with the environment and the Earth’s ecosystems. However, these effects were not discovered till much later. Before the world changing revolution, goods were manufactured in people’s homes primarily using hand tools or basic machines. Simply making appropriate clothing for their family would have taken many hours and skill. However, soon this was all replaced with heavy machinery and factories, which produced masses of goods and materials to keep up with the high demand. Many families relocated to the cities, and left their farms behind. The way that the populations manufactured their goods changed dramatically, as production shifted from people’s homes or workshops to huge factories. The number of goods and materials produced increased dramatically, and the proportion of capital invested per worker grew. The middle class grew significantly from the Revolution, as new opportunities and jobs arose. However, the working class suffered greatly. Although, there is the argument that the Industrial Revolution brought upon new jobs for the poor, and in the longer term they also benefited from jobs and cheaper goods. Children could also get employed at the factories, which caused serious injuries and deformities that affected them for many years later. Most of the men worked for low wages, and the women and children received even less. Because of the treatment of the workers, and the harsh conditions they were forced to live in and work in some historians believe that the Industrial Revolution was not hundred precent beneficial initially or at least equitably.
