The staff was made complacent by technology and leaned on the technology to hold and reproduce information. They never checked on the validity of the information they were receiving from the system. They also received information from the system in a form that was not easily usable.

When asked if you explored, as per CW policy and procedure, whether impending danger safety threats existed, you responded it was a “fair conversation to have that (the children) could have been unsafe.”

The interns, [Robert Chandler (Garth), Jose Morales (Tam)] and I created a presentation outlining recommendations with the Shared Services meeting procedure. This included how long the meeting last to possible break opportunities. Through observation, specifically with the Architecture, I noticed excellent facilitation techniques from Gary and the overall respectfulness of the team. Everyone was open to new ideas and passionate about their work and ultimately wanted the best delivery at hand as a team. The SharePoint sites collectively are easy to navigate. Midsouth Chamber of Commerce, a nonprofit, member driven, business advocacy group is in the processes of upgrading their current information system. Midsouth has decided they need to upgrade their information system to a more currently system, in order to increase revenue producing opportunities. This aim of this document was to provide a summary and definition of the concept of Information Systems and contrast the subject against Information Technology. As part of this I have defined systems and I then have offered some brief commentary on how IS has changed over the last hundred years or so.

The ability of the systems to communicate between departments and support the manufacturing demands of the company is a huge advantage for the entire company. The new system would increase strategic processes for the different departments from planning to manufacturing to distribution to accounting by using the resources more efficiently. NIBCO would be able to identify discrepancies within their planning, purchasing, or manufacturing stages immediately. By decreasing redundant processes the firm is able eliminate waste in order to increase their profit. Another advantage for NIBCO was in establishing a timeframe in their strategic plan with a ‘go live’ date for the implementation of the IS system which meant that the company would be able to resume normal operations. In this competitive world, the role of information system is crucial. It was not invented on modern computer period. It was there since humans speak. The only difference is when technology developed, information system also became more computerized. Information system is present in everywhere, for example when we shop online, pay bills, manage banking transactions, we are using information system (Lehaney, 2011). Information system is the systematic way of processing information with the help of technology and skilled people. Enterprise system or ES are kinds of software which helps to run the business processes efficiently and smooth.

The IT department of North American Federal Government, a real-estate and property management firm, submitted their proposal for data warehousing in their department. The proposal was sanctioned with an amount of $800,000 with duration of 8 months. In reality, the project exceeded the time of 8 months and lasted for two years. The reasons were business unit stretched the analysis time from one and half months to nine months. Another reason was business unit kept expanding he planned user base. Over a period of six months, the planned manpower increased from 200 to 2500. A formal approval for the use of technology from the Federal Government took a year. But the project was canceled by the IT director

The IT folks couldn’t communicate properly with the business about their ideas and strategy that confused the business and made them reject the ideas that were actually worth trying.

In addition CEMEX’s heavy investments on IT had changed the way the company operated in a market comparing to its rivals. Company was one of the first who started automating plant operations in accounting and sales as well. At the end of the 1980s, it set up a satellite network so that it could transmit all the internal data of its plants around the world to its headquarters in Mexico. Also automation reduced human resources costs: a small group of employees can now run a big cement plant. Moreover CEMEX’s IT department found the ways to improve customer relationship management through the GPS navigational systems in trucks that guaranteed 20-minute site delivery.

The role played by the IT in the company to the rest of the organization is reactive to business conditions rather than a proactive approach. IT has been busy establishing several IT processes, policies, and projects in order to catch up with current demand from customers, and has been relying on the “diving catch” approach of finishing things at the very last minute.

After reading the case, one continues to come up with new problems and issues along the way that are related to information technologies. The three main problems we encountered in this case are lack of IT knowledge, inappropriate planning, and ineffective and inefficient Resource Management. Each of these issues requires specific attention to fix the next problem and so forth. The solution to attack each individual problem or issue will be explained as follows.

In reading the first article Coach Knight: The Will to Win, I found the article found Coach Knight to be very offensive and mean to his players. Coach Knight did not display good leadership skills. According to the article, Coach Knight’s drive and passion for excellence was not always received as well as his record of wins and losses Snook, Per low, Delacey, 2005).
