Interning as the financial analyst at Terma North America Inc. (Terma) and as the accounting intern at Howard, Moore, and McDuffie (HMM) has been a great learning experience. This summer I have been able to apply theory and participate in real-world scenarios. At the beginning of my internships, I met with my supervisors to create goals that I would strive to achieve by the end of the summer. At Terma, my goal was to prepare and present summary financial status reports to management and customers. I was able to exceed this goal by working with the IT department to design and create a program management module for the program managers. With the guide, the managers will learn how to access reports and update them at any time without …show more content…
At Terma, I have been able to expand my knowledge about not only accounting but finance as well. As a financial analyst intern I had the opportunity to work closely with the financial manager. The tasks I performed related to accounting, but included a variety of financial duties. I have always enjoyed accounting and finance; however, I believe a background in accounting will further assist me if I chose to work in the finance department of a company. While at Terma, I was able to experience working in administration, human resources, accounting and finance, and even engineering. HMM was different, and their focus and expertise is accounting. At HMM I have completed tasks that involved accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax. These are topics I have read about in school, but have yet to have the opportunity to actually work on a real account. Through tutorials and many training sessions, I also learned new concepts that will prepare me for future accounting classes and employment. My internships this summer have amplified my knowledge of accounting, and have helped me realize that all of my hard work and dedication to my studies were well worth it. Mercer taught me the basics, and my internships allowed me to apply concepts and gain the skills that many entry-level accounts do not have. In one year, I will be entering the accounting

The situation that brought me from my first internship to the second one was frustrating and difficult. Nonetheless, it provided me with beneficial learning experiences for my career and life in general. One of the silver linings of interning at these two considerably different internship experiences was increasing my knowledge of two different types of business. The first of these areas was in the Non-Profit organization at PACS, where their mission is to empower individuals who are struggling. The nonprofit industry has always deeply interested me, and what I learned at PACS only fueled that interest. The time I spent at PACS was brief and ended abruptly. Nonetheless, I learned valuable and significant information and gained an understanding of the various business characteristics that are essential in nonprofit organizations.
I was so excited to get a call back from Jackson Hewitt about starting my part-time internship in the Spring with them. In order to graduate in December, I had to continue to take a full course load of classes this semester. Therefore, I was happy I could find something locally in Tuscaloosa so that I could take classes at the same time while working part-time. It was tough at first managing my five classes, work-study, and internship all in one semester but I managed to pull through it successfully. With that being said, my internship at Jackson Hewitt was a success and I learned many wonderful things that could potentially benefit my future career.
I had set some goals for my internship- to earn experience from it, to earn 3 credits from it, to learn to work in the team, to gain confidence, and gain valuable understanding of the accounting field and will be able to better grasp the things how my coursework is preparing me to enter my chosen career and to strengthen my CV.

Internship is a period of work experience offered by an employer to give people (usually college students and graduates) exposure to the working environment. I have spent three years at DePauw University learning Economics and Communication, and I believe my extensive background in taking classes in Financial and Managerial Accounting will be very useful for your accounting internship. I have also spent a summer as a financial advisor, and I believe those skills will transfer over and be an added benefit.
Last semester, I competed for the PricewaterhouseCoopers Competition challenge, in which I was able to work with three women and come with a solution for a problem a company was facing while considering their financial goals and objectives. Moreover, I also interned as Financial Planning Intern for The M Group and Associates. Through this position, I was able to learn more about financial services including investment planning, asset management, employee and executives benefits accounts, retirement planning, and many others. I was able to contact customers and explain different financial services available as well as their benefits and limitations. My Security Analysis Portfolio Management (FIN 421) allowed me to use MS Excel to do portfolio rebalancing, compute accumulated real retirement savings for different return realizations, implement rick parity strategy for backtesting, and be a portfolio manager for a large pension fund and use mean variance analysis to allocate funds across major asset
As an accounting major, I would have preferred to intern for a company that would utilize my accounting skills. There were not that many accounting and finance opportunities that were offered for this semester. Sadly, there was a student who dropped the internship due to the lack of accounting firms who were interested in taking on an intern. However, the internship organization was flexible and accommodating to all the interns. Chris Gaines has been a vital part of the internship program. My experience has been positive due to Chris Gaines direct interaction during weeks where we met as a class and always readily in
My internship at FuturePerfect Ventures has been an incredible learning experience and a stepping-stone for a fulfilling career path.
