Introduction
Leadership is increasingly important in today's society. Many experts and scholars point out that the current leadership crisis concerns moral and character problems in many leaders (Ahn, Ettner, & Loupin, 2012; Callahan, 2004; Wright & Quick, 2011). The following interview report is intended primarily for exploration and comparison of the traits and characteristics of leadership. A leader of a clinical medicine centre was interviewed for this report. The purpose of this report is to explore the leadership characters and traits, and how they can be developed in this turbulent environment. First, I make a brief introduction regarding the background of the respondent and her working environment. The report also describes this

She has other doctors who work under her with the same ideology. All of they want to service the community to see people improve their health, to be their friends, to listen to them when patients have problems and to be their helpers as they go through really hard time. They want the patients to really regard them as friends, and trust them as family members (Fioravante, 2013; Gregory, 2013; Kornør & Nordvik, 2004).
2) Clearly defined the goal
The respondent said that the establishment of a medical centre requires many different role and function of the people to join the team, who come from different backgrounds and different training environments. When established the medical centre, there are many people who want to work together with different goals and purposes, such as people with individual interests and profitable purposes. Therefore, this leader must be very clear the goals and objectives of this medical centre, in order to carefully selected cooperation partners and team group. This leader believes that as long as the same goals and vision, leading everyone to work together will become less difficult (Fioravante, 2013; Gregory, 2013; Winning leadership traits, 2008).
3) Humble, non-discriminatory/equal treatment attitude
The leader said: ‘I do not see myself as a boss, I see the team as my co-worker, we all joining the team together to go to the same goal. I think it is important
Leadership in a healthcare setting requires a great breath of knowledge specific to healthcare and but it also requires soft skills that can be translated to many other professional endeavors. This essay will examine the leadership style of a specific healthcare professional, the strategies and skills that she uses to motivate their staff members and the results or impacts of the application of the skills and knowledge of leadership. The interview of this leader allowed an insight into the inner workings of both the leader herself, but also into the challenges that her organization faces. A more thorough understanding of organizational leadership and culture in particular could benefit this leader and provide this leader with additional
In considering leadership traits all specialty administrators, it is important to understand there is no one size fit all model for leadership. For example, what works well at Southwest may not necessarily work well for the Marriot brand, but there are some core fundamental values of leadership that should be established regardless of where one is leading. The traits for great healthcare leaders follow the model of authentic leadership. Authentic leaders realize it’s not about them, they have integrity and great compassion for people. A key for successful leadership for LTC administrators is being able to build a great team. Authentic leaders understand the importance of creating a healthy work environment that fosters mutual trust between staff and leadership. Mirroring a model that exhibits a healthy relationship between leadership and staff also disseminates to the relationship between the staff and the patients. Another factor, in authentic leadership is leading by example; transformational leadership creates a culture in which employees feel empowered and encouraged to freely discuss and try new things (Northouse 2013,pg 200). LTC administrators who encompass these traits have the ability to take a group of individuals, address their needs, interest and commitment and bring them together to follow the common organizational goals (Wong, Cummings
Molecular and Microbiology. Many people hear the major and shudder; thoughts of sleepless nights, studying for courses unintelligible by the ‘average’ person, mad scientists hunched over test tubes and doctors doing open heart surgery. Research science and medicine, that’s what my major is geared towards, and I’m pursuing the medicine side of it all. Maybe I’ll be that open heart surgeon that comes to mind, or maybe just a family practitioner, either way, I want more than anything to be a doctor, a great doctor, and while my M&M degree is the first step in making that happen, I’d have to say that being a Lead Scholar is the second. Many people may not see the medical profession as one that requires being a leader to others, as you make
The value and leadership skills in healthcare are both very professions are vital skills that are needed to provide everyday care (Graber, 2008). This literature review will explore the important values and leadership in health care. The review will provide the understandings of both topics. The term value can be determined by a person's standards and principles (Gaudine & Beaton, 2002). According to Grojean, Resick & Diskson (2004) leadership, is an actual way to improve patient`s. A good leader is said to reveal certain roles and behaviors that influence others in the way of positive change and direction. Viinamäki, (2009) back these same ideas but also have confidence in that there is a difference between value and leadership. They believe that leaders are viewed as individuals who can connect through motivation, visions, and inspire positive directions to generate company and organizational change. Graber (2008) impression of leadership can be understood as the capability of one person to impact the behaviors and actions of other people.
A leader can be defined as a person who has the ability to influence people to achieve certain goals. According to Marcus & Huston (2015), it is very important to understand that a job title does not make a person a leader. Only a person’s behavior can tell us if he/she holds leadership role (p 34). To be a leader, a person must be able to be in front of everybody, taking risks, inspiring other’s actions, advocating for others. The next interview will underline how the manager on medical-surgical floor is working to achieve a better quality of work on her unit, and also, how she is leading her staff in maintaining a safety environment for the patients and for the staff, too. It is well known that teamwork brings the most satisfying results. Therefore, in order to implement a plan, a leader must have a united and dedicated team.
Delegation: Having team leaders who you can delegate tasks too and are willing and able to take on more responsibility,
The social responsibility and function of a health care organization is to provide a safe patient care at all-reasonable ethical practice, and leadership is necessary to guide the organization towards accomplishing that goal. Leadership role in healthcare involved providing the support for planning, directing, coordinating, providing and improving care, treatment and services to patient and it simultaneously, improve the organization health care product in the community.
According to McConell (2012), the difference in a leader and a follower determines the success of a person regarding leadership. This chapter helps explain the content of qualities and proficiency for healthcare managers to be effective. Once again, effective management skills or certain qualifications enhance a healthcare organization environment. Healthcare managers and supervisors must have the capacity to handle challenges while the organization objectives and regulations may change over a period of time. Effective healthcare management governs the success of a healthcare organization. There are many different skill sets and leadership styles to be effective as a manager. People are interested in knowing what strategies are effective
Healthcare changes occurring today along with shrinking budgets and reimbursement rates for hospitals has forced institution CEOs to do more with less. Changes and restructuring of various health facilities require nursing leaders with flexibility and adaptability. Nurse leaders must also consider budgetary constraints, cost effectiveness, patient safety, and quality care while maintaining focus on improved patient outcome. The responsibility of ensuring patients receive safe and high quality care belongs to every employee in the hospital, including support staff such as IV therapy. In this hospital, this led to the development of a nurse director position to oversee the
To inspire and influence others, a leader must possess many skills and abilities. As motivational speaker Peter Northouse, states, “a leader should be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant” (Northouse, 2013) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a singular goal is a considerable undertaking. Without effective communication skills and a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished, one will feel like they are trying to herd cats rather than leading.
Healthcare leaders are required to build a culture of community, which is intertwined with internal and external stakeholders’ professional collaboration via their shared values and diverse ideas. Leaders need to leverage the interrelation of shared values, diverse ideas, and professional collaboration for the success and sustainability of health care field. Creating the sense of community by providing autonomy and innovative organizational climate is imperative in the demanding times of economically stressed and astronomically fast changing health care field. Working in silos cannot be a norm anymore in technologically connected world. Connecting people through a shared vision, but still allowing a cultivating ground for their diverse ideas
The importance of a team working together is a key ingredient to any leadership style to be successful. If a leader can motivate a group of people to cooperate and work together cohesively on a project, the chances of success increase. The concept of a disparate group of people working together under one leader successfully is a surgical team either completing a routine surgery or performing a groundbreaking new surgical procedure. Although the surgeon is nominally in charge of the entire procedure, this focus “risks missing the dynamic and adaptive aspects of work” each professional in the surgical team must exhibit when executing their part (Rydenfält, Johansson, Odenrick, Ackerman, Larsson, 2014). Each member of the surgical team is a professional who contributes their knowledge and experience to the team.

As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, it requires people who attain great leadership qualities.
