Essay:
“It has been said: not all learning takes place in classroom. Compare and contrast knowledge gained from personal experience with knowledge gained from classroom instruction. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?“
Learning takes place not only in the classroom but also in our everyday lives. This is because to learn does not mean just to gain academic knowledge. Rather, learning refers to acquisition of any kind of knowledge that can give us instructions on how we should behave. Information that we get in the classroom is, without any doubt, useful and proven and it can broaden our mind. However, school years are relatively short in terms of a life span, and, therefore, there are a lot more things that can be

They not only enrich their knowledge and abilities, but also communicate with their peers and teachers. So they can also develop their character.
Does this mean that we can get valuable and useful for our future life information only in the classroom? Of course, not. If we track the origin of the knowledge acquired in the classroom, we will find out that this kind of knowledge was first gained from personal experience and only then landed in our books. Take the case of the law of gravity that we learn in the school nowadays. It was first discovered by Newton. He acknowledged the idea of gravity when he got a hit by a falling apple. This example illustrates that the knowledge we are absorbing in the classroom is a set of summarized and organized personal experience.
However, people, whose „personal experience“ we are learning in the classroom now, were scientists and geniuses. It is not an everyday occasion that somebody discovers new thing that is relevant for the society. Thus, the question is if an ordinary person can gain valuable knowledge outside the classroom.
In this case let us remember the film that appeared on our screens in 2008 called „Slumdog Millionaire“. It is an adaptation of the novel „Q&A“ by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup. Set and filmed in India, the film tells the story of eighteen-year-old Jamal Malik, a young man from the Juhu slums of Mumbai. The guy appears on the Indian version of
‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is a film that features a character, Jamil Malik, who lives in Dubai and is considered an ignorant young boy. Jamil Malik had never went to school or college and would not have known any of the answers for the game show, “Who wants to be a Millionaire” but was given the prejudge of being on the show because he grew up in the slums of India. Jamil’s life experiences allowed him an
Most people begin learning at a young age, beginning with your parents teaching you basic animals, letters, numbers, etc. Only to build on this learning throughout your walk of life. We learn every day, whether it be something minute, or something significant to your career. Everyone experiences learning differently,
There are many ways of learning. Every person learns differently. However, it is irrefutable that everybody learns via actions. In Coates novel, Between the World and Me, he discusses his education through living in the world opposed to just reading about it. The knowledge you earn from experiencing is in my opinion way more worthwhile than the knowledge you receive from a classroom.
When carrying out everyday tasks, it may seem that it’s always tedious and mundane, driving the person to even question the point in doing it. The answer is quite obvious, yet it’s not. They are simply learning even more than what they already know. When doing anything from walking down the street to sitting at a desk for 8 hours, someone can learn something out of it. Just by being there it’s easy for someone to observe and learn new things thanks to their current environment. The point is, not all learning comes from academic environments. People can obtain just as much knowledge and skills in everyday life than they can in school settings if the environment and situations are right.
This quote has always been inspiring in my life. I believe learning is not limited to just the classroom but takes places through out our life. Right education not only enhances personal development and social inclusion, but also increases competitiveness.
During my undergraduate career, I have learn a lot more than what was taught in the classroom. It was an experience that you cannot describe in words; something you can only experience. Luckily, I had environment that encouraged me to explore beyond what a textbook has to over via instructor, counselor or peer. When your challenges are arranged as a journey of learning, surrounded by a supportive environment, the wonders you can learn about the world are endless.
The child then can develop a sense of initiative and feel secure in the way they can lead others and make decisions.
contribute to their physical and mental development but also enable students the ability to focus in
“Slumdog Millionaire” paints a picture of the rise out of poverty that is not only unrealistic but in some ways disregards the real issues surrounding the people of India. The main character Jamal Malik, played by Dev Patel, grows up in one of the most poverty stricken
Learning is explained numerous ways by multiple individuals at various times in life. This is the purpose of the educational system, my field of study, continuously evolving. Christine A. Johnston, author of Intentional Learning for College Success, defines learning as, “whether in a classroom, the real world, or online, involves you taking in the world around you and connecting to what you are experiencing.” This definition is as accurate of one imaginable. Learning is, in fact, making sense of the continuous evolving world around you and processing the information for communication and growth.
required to learn from the time we enter school and many times beyond the time
From the moment somebody is born they begin to observe and learn from their surroundings. How and what they choose to learn from shapes the type of human being they become. Although humans begin to learn things from a young age, it is not possible to learn everything that they need. Cicero explains this paradox as “What you know is of no use, what you do not know does great harm.” Michelle de Montaigne in The Essays: A Selection agrees with this claim by describing that learning is a continuous process that teaches people how to carry out their lives. To do so Montaigne believes that pupils should be excited to learn and learn through experience, while Francis Rabelais in Gargantua and Pantagruel expects people to learn through their teachers,
Learning is on a continuum that does not stop but constantly changes and develops for both teachers and students. Learning is more than memorizing facts; it is about
Most people believe that, learning is done only through formal education and that this process stops once they graduate but this is not true. According to Delors’ (1996) four ‘pillars’ of education for the future, lifelong learning can be defined as one which is done throughout a person’s lifetime. It is adjustable, diverse and attainable all through the various stages of human life. This points out that, learning is not done through formal means only and cannot be avoided as one progresses through life’s various stages (from infancy till death).
As Daniel J. Boorstin said, “Education is learning what you didn 't even know you didn 't know.”
