Out of all of the skin care products in the world, your bathroom cabinet needs to be filled with products researched and designed by me. When I entered high school, I discovered my passion for selecting lip sticks, lip glosses, lotions, perfumes, and makeup foundations. You name it. After learning about the connections between the information in my chemistry class and these items, a light bulb went off! I maintained an A average in chemistry throughout the whole year! Additionally, in 2014, I became a student in the Academy of Engineering and Technology, which also heightened my interests in chemistry. In a science fair at that academy, there was a chemistry course where we made colorful slime, and during that process, I learned that I get an adrenaline rush when I am mixing different chemicals together to see what the outcome is. Majoring in chemistry at Norfolk State University will definitely prepare me for a very successful future in chemistry! My ultimate goal is to conduct research and development for chemical cosmetics. I plan to obtain employment at the greatest companies in the world such as L'Oréal and Avon.

Life is full of decisions. You have the choice to decide what you want to do for a career. Some may have jobs they wish they could change or made the decision before to have done something differently. The career you choose should be something you love, along with aspects that fit your values the best. Interest, skills, financially that you know you can excel in. A plan for life is important, so it’s best to know or have an idea on what you want to proceed in.

At TAMU to become a chemical engineer, you will work in the engineering department. A chemical engineer works with chemicals, materials, and energy combined with physics. If interested in engineering, it is important that you take these high school courses: Biology, Calculus, Computer Science, Electronics, Engineering, and Geometry. Chemical engineers make around $58,830 a year to $154,840 a year. As a chemical engineer, you can work in multiple industries: Design and Construction, Electronics, Energy and fuels. Setting up a career plan with TAMU may entitle you to a good job in the future. For example, a job at Hershey. This Career path is great for making money and is not hard on you in college. In America, we are short thousands of engineers. This means that you will have a great acceptance rate at careers in engineering in the future.

As revealed by my personal Life Styles Inventory (Figure 1), my primary thinking style and back-up thinking style were Conventional (4 o’clock position) and Affiliative (2 o’clock position) respectively. The chemical Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth was founded in 1947 and it has been offering programs leading to Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering (B.S.Ch.E) by using modern hand-on laboratory and design technologies. I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Through a combination of independent research, advice from mentors, and on-the-job industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical engineering. The broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of engineering. With chemical, physical, and mathematical concepts as well as industrial know-how, engineers transform ideas into useful and attainable products that impact the lives of many.

Researches depict that the unprecedented growth rate in the industries whether it be food processing, distilleries, pharmaceuticals, tanneries and many more is causing major problems in the environment due to use of different chemicals or use of the processes that are quite harmful or mismanagement in general or even transportation in general. Though, all of these is changing, with use of more environmental friendly methods and materials but a lot is yet to be changed. Since, these industries are mainly governed by and require a deep knowledge of chemical engineering, along with knowledge of biotechnology and environment; I want to pursue a research career in chemical engineering by doing my PhD in chemical engineering.

A Chemical Engineer has problems that are unseen because of the rewarding pay scale and job offers. Assisting the aid of every living creative survive in some way daily is not always relaxing or satisfying. The career becomes challenging for a chemical engineer to preserve foods for ones eating habits, fuel for a variable of cars and prepare the compounds of medicine for man and animals. These are only a few problems that chemical engineers face. Chemical Engineers are ultimately a helpful career for society, yet research has shown that there is difficulty within how to find employment, the tedious education programs, and the working conditions.

Chemical engineering is a research oriented field which has flourished over the centuries and finds its applications in almost every product we use in our life these days. The myriad and multifarious applications of this branch always captivated me. My interest in Chemical Engineering has accreted exponentially as I’ve been learning about this branch in my under graduation, and thus became certain that a career as Chemical Engineer suits me.
