I constantly hear that weed does not harm you, this is false. “Marijuana contains more than four hundred known chemicals, including the same cancer-causing substances found in tobacco smoke”. (Alcohol vs. Marijuana, 2013). Let that sink in for a second, it has four hundred known chemicals in it that does not sound healthy for you. I also found out that “ It has been found that consuming one joint gives as much exposure to cancer-producing chemicals as smoking five cigarettes”. (What is Marijuana, 2013). One joint is the equivalent as smoking five cigarettes, but weed is harmless, I think not. Marijuana also affects your mind to where you cannot remember things. Marijuana smokers do not have the same ability to remember and organize information compared to people who do not smoke. Becoming addicted to drugs is a tragic thing to happen to anybody. These people need help as soon as possible, because doing drugs can kill you, whether from overdose or having a fatal accident while they are high. Thankfully there are many things that can be done to help drug addicts. Supporting them is key, “ Recovering from drug addiction is much easier when you have people you can lean on for encouragement, comfort, and guidance”. (Robinson, Smith, Saison, 2013). The first thing that you should is to speak up, and tell them your concerns about them. You need to avoid being judgmental, because becoming an addict can happen
With marijuana being a very popular drug, it is not a harmful drug. Marijuana is used by many people all around the world. The percentage of people who smoke has increased by a significantly large amount. “Ever since marijuana has been known to mankind, not one single account of death
Marijuana is a magical plant that has been used and accepted in every culture it had been introduced in up until it was made illegal in the United States. In fact, after declared illegal, the use of it greatly increased and has been rising ever since. It's legalization is sweeping the world, and now in California marijuana is a legal, regulated substance available to those over 21. I've heard some false information going around and I'd like to clear the air about it. These are the raw facts with absolutely no bias. Myth: Marijuana is extremely addictive. Long term marijuana users grow dependent, suffer from withdrawal, and often need professional drug treatment to break their marijuana habits. Fact: There is no physical addiction to marijuana.
Marijuana is a plant that people use for various reasons, whether that is for medicinal, recreational, social, personal, religious or nutritional uses. Recreational cannabis (marijuana), is designed to help get people high, the compound that recreational users chase is Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana, which bonds with specific receptors in the brain to produce a number of effects. It can have a sedative effect, relax your inhibitions, increase your appetite, lower your blood pressure and many other factors. Marijuana can also interfere with your short-term memory, lower your reaction time and make you unsteady and off balance. Even though marijuana has been classed as an illegal drug, there are some negatives, there are many studies that prove marijuana is less harmful to our bodies than other legal dangers, such as drinking or smoking.
“Weed is addictive and is gateway drug. You shouldn’t smoke it.” This is a common misconception about Marijuana that a variety of people believe. This is because they do not know the history of it and what is in the Marijuana that makes it, what people say is “addictive.” They also probably do not know that there are disadvantages and advantages of using Marijuana. At the end of the day, it is really the choice of the user. But people should become more aware of where Marijuana originated from, what it is made from and the pros and cons of smoking it if they choose to.
Smoking marijuana is best described as a one-way ticket to negative side-affects. Based on Lifetime Health by Friedman, D. P., Stine, C. C., and Whaten S. “smoked marijuana are felt within minutes and may last for 2 or 3 hours”(2009). Short term effects consist of slowed thinking ability, difficulty paying attention, distorted sense of time, and many more. (Friedman, D. P., Stine, C. C., and Whaten S. (2009). Long term effects include frequent respiratory infection, impaired learning and memory, and even panic attacks (Friedman, D. P., Stine, C. C., and Whaten S. (2009). Thus, the ingestion in smoking marijuana can cause harmful outcomes, which are
Marijuana relieves stress, and shouldn’t be looked at in a negative way. If you think marijuana should stay illegal than you might want to keep reading to expand your mind. People think marijuana is a bad substance because it kills your brain cells and tends to make you slow in general. What they don’t look at is it also serves as a medication. It can help with migraines, cancer pain, and epilepsy. (High Vlogs. "Weed Is Not Bad For You" Online Video Clip. YouTube, Published on May 5, 2013)
marijuana is no longer the "Devil's Weed" it was once thought to be, its long-term effects
Weed has been proven to be non-addictive although in high quantities some people could show addictive or withdraw symptoms. Although most people have been addicted to cannabis these small percent were also proven to be on other (most of the time heavier) substances as conducted by D.R. James C. Anthony (his background) (Medicine ) back in 1994.
Marijuana does not sound as harmful as people have said it, and it’s misleading the public. For example, the U.S federal government data has shown that the average THC in marijuana is less than five percent. Compare to Alcohol and tobacco, Marijuana does not cause strong addiction, cancer, heart problems, birth defect, emphysema, liver damages and ect. A recent 2009 populations case-control study found marijuana smoker that had smoked for over a 20 years period of time has shown a reduced risk of head and neck cancer. Without the effects of marijuana, the consumer is free from all memory issues but only cause short-term memory while under the influence of marijuana. Marijuana can reduce respiratory health hazard or spread of second hand smoking, since it can be consumed in non-smoking way and still have the same effect. Non-smoking hazard ways include using it as a spice for baking, flavor for drinking and etc. According to a 1997 UCLA school of Medicine study, volume 155 of the American Journal of Respiratory of Critical care Medicine, stated that both the continuing or the intermittent marijuana smoker showed any significantly different rates decline in lung function as compared to non-smoker. If marijuana were legalized, it will reduces health care cost by accidental injection of unsafe drug usage and reduce the possibility of overdose.
There are two types of addiction when it comes to cannabis: physical and psychological. Physical addiction involves severe withdrawals which associates with shaking and vomiting. Usually if you have experienced physical addiction, you have abused the right to use cannabis. This is similar to alcoholism or other highly addictive drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Psychological addiction, however, usually involves extreme anxiety, depression and mood swings. Although most people are not prone to addiction to marijuana, it is still very possible. As an article in Healthline stated, “About 9 percent of people who use marijuana will become abusers, according to a study endorsed by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Other estimates have placed that number even higher, with young people particularly susceptible to dependency”(1). As a result of my research I have found that medical cannabis is not an extremely addictive substance, however, if the privilege is abused, it can very well lead to either physical or psychological addiction.
Marijuana is the least harmful drug that is currently on the market. It is possible to become addicted to marijuana, but you can also become addicted to alcohol, cocaine, and
It is only harmful if you abuse usage and do it regularly. Marijuana is better for your body than tobacco and alcohol or even many prescription drugs. It causes some memory loss during intoxication, but it does not kill brain cells. It has been used as a medicine since an ancient Asian dynasty used it. Marijuana has unique healing properties and can be available on prescription for the treatment of chronic pain and other certain disorders and illnesses. It is legal to drink and get drunk, which kills thousands of people every year, mostly in traffic accidents; but it was not legal for years to smoke marijuana which just heals and calms the mind and body. It does not make any sense why something so fatal is legal and used throughout the United States, but a drug that helps people with their sickness was illegal. Marijuana also known as cannabis is a plant and herb that contains psychotropic ingredients that is most commonly used as a drug. For centuries this drug/ herb has been consumed medically by different societies and cultures around the globe. It has been used for various medical purposes for the treatment of chronic pains, asthma, migraines and many other diseases. There have been several debates to legalize marijuana in developed countries especially United States. However, marijuana is still used in many other countries for medical purposes like New Zealand, Canada, and Belgium. They say marijuana is a helpful
Treating Americans who have a marijuana addiction has now become a further complex problem than previous American cultures have ever experienced. Studies have now concluded that Americans start smoking and consuming at a much younger age than previous generations, and adults continue using well into their thirties and forties. Cannabis consumption can pose many health risks to not only the consumer, but also America as a nation. There are currently twenty states that have legalized medical marijuana out of fifty. Are we headed for a legalized epidemic in America? Has this epidemic already begun?
Marijuana is the leading drug in america for abuse and dependence.’in 2008 marijuana use accounted for 4.2 out of 7 million cases of people being dependant or abusing this illicit drug’ (why we should not legalize marijuana). This is showing that marijuana is an extremely addictive drug. Over two thirds of america is suffering from drug abuse or dependence from the use of marijuana. Marijuana has been used alot and has taken a role in the most abused drug. This is showing how marijuana is an addictive drug that people are depending on it and then people start abusing it which can ruin their life if they don’t get help ” dr drew pinsky who has been working with addicts” says that it can be highly addicted to some people ( 5 reasons why marijuana should remain illegal).
Many Americans believe that people are, and can become, addicted to marijuana. There are claims stating that after chronic long-term use, it becomes habitual, and quitting would result in withdrawal symptoms. However, addiction to marijuana in no way reflects the true intensity of addiction to harder subtances such as: pain killers, heroine, cocaine, etc.
