What are the potential sources of the problem?
The source of these problems seems to be coming from two areas in Interwest Healthcare. The first area is the miscommunication that the hospital administrators are having with upper management. The hospital administrators and upper management are not only having miscommunication issues but they also do not share the same role expectations with each other which is creating tension. “The hospital people accused Singh of being a bureaucrat who did not care about patient services. Singh accused the hospital staffs of not understanding the importance of accurate reporting” (Brickley, Smith & Zimmerman 2009 p. 38). The

But before any changes to the data entry process are made it is important to communicate directly to the hospital administrators. It is important to have the hospital administrators on board with the changes that will be made with the data entry process. By gaining the hospital administrators consent with the changes this will allow a smoother transition for the data entry change and it could provide a positive change to the workplace. As for the changes to the data entry it would most likely be a simple computer process along with small piece of paperwork. It would be best to have some sort or paper record on file that would need to be alphabetized along with a simple computer program. The computer program would help ensure accuracy and would have the patient’s data record on file which will be easy to locate. There would be very little paper work for the process mainly because it takes up space and takes more time to record. The paper work that is part of the process would simply serve as a backup if the computers were down. The key to ensuring accuracy with the data entry is to make the process as simple as possible so it would minimize the errors.
How does your view of behavior affect how you might address the consulting assignment?
As a consulting assignment I see Interwest Healthcare as a company in distress due to the way the hospital
S.P. is admitted to the orthopedic ward. She has fallen at home and she has sustained an intracapsular fracture of the hip at the femoral neck. The following history is obtained from her: She is a 75-year-old widow with three children living nearby. Her father died of cancer at age 62; mother died of heart failure at age 79. Her height is 5’3 and weighs 118 pounds. She has a 50 pack year smoking history and denies alcohol use. She has severe Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and had an upper GI bleed in 1993 and had Coronary Artery Disease with CABG 9 months ago. Since that time, she has engaged in “very mild exercise at home.” Vital signs are 128/60, 98, 14, 99 degree farenheight (32.7 degrees C) SAO2 94%
I believe that my view of behavior tremendously affects the way I would handle the consulting assignment. Personally when it comes to a working environment I feel that behavior can be changed through motivation, training, and communication. I feel that some small incentive or reward should be given and order to motivate individuals on the job. However, I do feel that not only should there be an incentive there should also be clear cut training and communication between management and employees. I

Scenario: An elderly woman showed symptoms of near syncope and was admitted via ambulance to a small community hospital. She experienced an inability to move on her own and almost lost consciousness while watching her grandson play basketball. Her symptoms occurred during a visit to her daughter’s home, which is approximately 150 miles from Liza’s home. When Liza was admitted to the hospital, her daughter explained the numerous types and dosages of medications her mother was taking. She also mentioned that Liza had not been taking her Coumadin as directed by her physician for the past week or so. Liza was admitted to the intensive care unit for evaluation. Over the course of hospitalization, Liza’s condition worsened.

“Running a health care organization is a team sport. It is very important that all members of the team-whether on the medical staff, in management or on the board-understand the role of governance and what constitutes effective governance” (Arnwine, 2002). Running a hospital is a difficult task. Several factors need to be seriously thought of and considered in every decision and undertaking. Unfortunately, all the three important factors in governing a hospital is not always in harmony. As likened to a team sport, if the three major components are not working with each other as a team, there will be tension and a great divide will be experienced. And often times, the patients will be in the middle and will be greatly impacted. This writer believes that there are several factors that contribute to the tension that usually exists among the medical staff, the board and administration. One factor is the disconnect, where each entity is not seeing each other eye to eye and their visions may be different from each other. Another factor may be the lack of communication in order to bridge the gap and to build a respectful and a relationship wherein there is trust for each end every member of the group. Often times, the medical staff is concerned with ensuring that patients are cared for in a manner that their practice is protected as well as the patients are getting the appropriate care. On the other hand, the board of trustees may be focused in ensuring that that

Apex, a chemical manufacturer, has the option of commercializing one of its compounds due to resource scarcity. Apex needs to examine both choices and take into consideration the analysis of market size and trend, value proposition, market knowledge and share, and forecasted revenue for each of the compound before it decides which compound to commercialize.
The data analysis of Invincibility systems may bring up many legal issues and concerns due to the fact that it can cause opinions to be extremely biased. All of this research and analysis that is done is merely a general statistic once it’s all said and done; therefore it does not necessarily hold true in all cases. For example in the case on page 391 it states “Turnover rates are higher among unmarried and recently hired employees (who tend to be younger)”. Using this generalized statement, a manager could choose not to hire someone if they fall under one of these 2 demographics. So, these analysis’ can be somewhat prejudice since they are merely a generalization.
In the first scenario, an organization was seeking to hire a medical director. The company peruse through the resumes and came across a candidate who had an impressive work and educational background. After hiring the candidate, the organization decided to run a background search that should have been conducted prior to offering the position to the person. Unfortunately, the search showed that the candidate that the organization had chosen had a prior criminal conviction and had served seven years in prison. With a record such as this he would have been eliminated.
